Ancient Egypt
Seth's Temple
"Wonderful party, my friend!" murmured Onuris towards Seth, taking in the entire room with his eyes. Everything was perfect, down to the smallest detail. Even Seth's evil plan was laid out with monumental precision.
"And the surprises don't end there, Onuris!" The smile on Seth's face turned evil as he looked at his brother, the great emperor Osiris. "Brother!" called out Seth, approaching his next target with firm steps. "I'm glad you had the honor of attending my party!"
"Seth!" replied Osiris, beckoning the servants for a jug of wine to share with his brother.
Seth's temple was spacious, but not very welcoming tonight. The immense columns supporting the ceiling were quite monstrous. Large tiles of marble covered the front walkways as well as the floor inside. He lined the exterior with palm trees that rose all the way up to Ra's sun.
"Do you like it? Everything you see here is to your honor, brother!" lied Seth, holding his brother's gaze. But his eyes radiated a hatred that Osiris did not see. Seth's jealous soul was about to pour out all its fury at Egypt's prosperous ruler. Seth promised himself that history would be rewritten tonight, but this time his role would be decisive. No one would cheat Seth and survive to tell the story. The treachery of Osiris and Nephthys, the Goddess of the Air, was not to be overlooked by Seth, the betrayed and vengeful husband.
"No one outdoes you at such banquets, dear brother!" and raising his cup of wine, he totally ignored Seth's cruel intention.
"And you haven't seen it all yet..." continued the God of Chaos, then turned to his friends. Absolutely everyone was waiting for his orders. "Onuris, Tut, bring... the gift!" Great was Osiris's amazement, and perhaps that of those present, when the gift Seth had mentioned was a chest fit for a king, decorated with bright paint and gold foils. Osiris' face went from happy to amazed and then to curious. But Seth immediately enlightened everyone. "Friends, brother, you have here before you all my work from yesterday. And everything to make a gift to the one who will fit perfectly in the chest. What do you say? Tut? Onuris? Will you try? Who knows, maybe one of you will be the lucky winner" Though most of them looked at each other questioningly, one by one, each of Seth's friends climbed into the chest. Not surprisingly, no one managed to fit into the chest, which was made perfectly for Osiris. Seth's gaze turned to his brother. "Come on, brother, give it a try yourself! It would be a pity if this wonderful chest doesn't find its master, don't you think?" Osiris's betrayal clouded Seth's judgment, but it wasn't because he was his blood brother that he would stop. Ignoring the danger, Osiris obeyed him and laid down in the dome, glad and proud that he was perfect for him.
"Look, Seth, it looks like you have a winner!" But he didn't get to say anything else that Tut, Onuris and a few other men in strength pushed the lid and Seth thirstily nailed it shut. "Seth! What are you doing?" came the King's rushing voice.
"Take him!" Seth ordered proudly as his brother's reign was finally coming to an end.
"Seth!" still thundered Osiris from within. "If I get out of here..."
"That's exactly the problem, if you get out!" and his mocking laughter filled the vast halls of the temple. "You shall know my wrath, dear brother! Did you think I didn't know the mischief you did? Nephthys was my wife, and you have plundered her! You'll pay for this, traitor!"
"Let me out of here at once. I am your king! You have no right to do this!"
"By the power of Ra, I sentence you to death!"
Close to his house flowed the swirling waters of the Nile River. Dragging the chest behind him, Seth threw it full force into the river, watching it recede into the distance. "Die!" he roared suddenly, admiring the cleverness and ease with which he defeated him. But his joy was brief.
In a manic move, the god Osiris broke the chest and rose above the water. His reddened eyes shot flames, threateningly approaching the shore.
"You dare rise against me? I, your king and god! You will pay dearly for this, Seth!" One by one, those who had helped Seth perished under the god's fury. Filled with hatred and terror, Seth stepped back, but not fast enough to hide from his brother. But he would not surrender. He drew his sword and the moment Osiris set foot on the ground, he attacked him.
"It's time for you to disappear! This dynasty isn't enough for both of us!" Seth shouted spitefully as he launched himself at his brother, but Osiris immediately blocked the blow that would have been fatal. Caught off guard, Seth thirstily struck his brother's jaw and then immediately the fury of the blows discharged into his abdomen. His knees flexed against his will, but he absorbed the pain that, for him, was an illusory sensation that his mind could turn off whenever he wanted. And this was one of those moments, so Osiris pushed back the next punch, throwing his brother's sword away. Now he alone had a weapon, but because Osiris was a god and a king, he threw his death whip and fought one on one. The mighty king didn't waste a second and lunged at his brother, his elbow on the side of his skull, close to his temple. Seth took a step back, balancing his weight, but it was enough for the god to grab his forearm and, twisting it, slammed him hard against his chest. Now Osiris was right in his ear.
"I didn't know you were so soft, brother!" In this way, he brought him to his knees, as Seth should have remained before the supreme king. "I wonder what Ra has to say now?"
As the odds were not on Seth's side, he reluctantly complied and remained on his knees.
"You'll pay for this!" The God of Chaos thundered, refraining with difficulty from jerking away. Osiris had him so pinned down that he couldn't move a muscle.
"I've heard that before. Anubis?" The gates of the Underworld opened wide, making way for the Lord of Darkness himself, the God Anubis. He narrowed his eyes when he saw the humiliated Seth, but immediately understood why he had been called to Earth.
"Yes, father!" His low voice thundered like a storm. He walked fiercely and where he stepped the earth caught fire, leaving deep tracks. His aura was frightening.
"Tell me, Anubis, do you have someone in the Abyss Chamber?" As soon as he asked, Seth's face darkened. All this convinced the king that it was not fear creeping inside his brother, but spite that he could do absolutely nothing to end his brother's Dynasty.
"No, but he's next!"
