Loving someone so deeply turned out to only make Sadie's life miserable until the end. She regretted her wasted life because of her blind love and when she miraculously got a second chance at life, Sadie was determined to fix everything. However, it turned out that it was not easy either, because many things could not be changed just like that. "I will not let you go again, Sadie. This is not only a second chance for you, but this is also for me!" "Even if my heart is not for you?" "Your heart is for me, you just don't want to admit it yet. Don't worry, I am a persistent person and you will give in to me, even if it takes my whole life. You, will be mine."'
I am alone here, among the various sizes and colors of tubes connecting my body parts to the softly humming machines, in the room that has become my most familiar place for the past four months.
My head hurts, throbbing as if someone invisible is hitting my head with a hammer. And I feel bruised and bruised all over my body, especially in the parts where the tubes are stuck into my skin and penetrate my flesh.
The whole series of dialysis processes always make my stomach churn and nauseous, so that every time a nurse always has to provide a small bucket to catch my vomit.
It is very embarrassing. Sometimes I even just vomit a sharp-smelling yellow liquid that makes the nurses grin in disgust.
However, I am helpless. Since the doctor declared kidney failure four months ago, I have had to undergo this painful and tiring process three times a week.
"Mrs. Sadie, excuse me if I have to interrupt your process," said a bespectacled nurse who entered the room. "I have to convey a message from the administration that the payment for your eight dialysis sessions has not been paid at all until now. The hospital usually accepts payments every three times or per week. This time the payment is late for more than two weeks."
"Oh," I muttered half-consciously. "Maybe my husband forgot to put a deposit. I'll call and ask him to take care of the arrears as soon as possible."
The nurse nodded politely. I reached for the bag on the nightstand next to the bed and picked up the phone.
I dialed Trevor's number, but his phone was inactive. My vision was a little bit blurred now, as usual when the nurse had injected medicine into the IV bottle and my hands were shaking too.
Another nurse came in to check on the patient who seemed to have finished his dialysis.
"Lin, have you heard the latest news about the CEO of The Bright Stars?" asked the new nurse.
"Ah, I haven't had time to open my social media all day," replied the bespectacled nurse. "I am his loyal follower, because he is so handsome and sexy."
"Then, prepare to be heartbroken, because in two days he will get married!"
"What? Are you serious? Is the rumor true, that he is in a relationship with designer Marsha Amella?"
"Yes, that's true. It turns out they have been secretly together for a long time and are planning a fairy tale themed wedding that will be broadcasted live! They just announced it in a press conference an hour ago."
"I have to save the date, I can't--"
BRUGH!!!
The phone in my hand fell to the floor. The bespectacled nurse turned to me and even in my blurry vision, not only because of the medicine, but now, also because of the tears that were starting to well up, I could see her shocked expression.
"Mrs. Sadie, are you okay?" asked the nurse. She approached and bent down, picking up my fallen phone.
My hands were shaking when I received the phone from the nurse. The object felt slippery in my damp grip.
"Ma'am, oh my God, you look so pale and your hands are so cold," the nurse said in a worried tone. "I'll call--"
"Nurse, can you leave me alone for a moment?" I asked hoarsely, my throat feeling so dry. "I h-have to call, err... M-my husband."
"But, ma'am, you--"
"Please?"
I couldn't hold back my tears and it seemed to confuse the two nurses in the room. I bit my lower lip hard to keep from screaming out the tightness in my chest.
"O-okay, ma'am. You can ring the bell if you need me," the nurse said.
She walked away from me and took her friend's hand, then they left the room.
My hands were busy. Trying to call Trevor again and wiping away my tears that wouldn't stop flowing.
"WHAT?"
The voice that answered my third call was rough and sharp. I held the phone away from my ear and swallowed. As expected, it would be that b*tch who would answer my call, as usual.
"Give Trevor the phone, Marsha, please. I have to talk to him this time."
I felt disgusted with myself for begging her like this, but I had no other ways.
Ever since I started going back and forth to the hospital, Trevor had completely ignored me. He paid for the hospital bills, but never asked about my condition at all and as far as I could remember, I hadn't seen him in over two months.
"My future husband is resting after the press conference, about our wedding," Marsha's mocking words pierced my heart like an arrowhead. "What do you want, Sadie? Can't you stop being a burden to him?"
"He's still my husband, Marsha!"
I tried to bluff, but unfortunately my voice was so weak and shaky, it only made Marsha laugh happily, laughing at me.
"Tsk! Your divorce papers are already in the hands of Trevor's legal team, Sadie and your suitcase is ready to be thrown out of the White Lily," Marsha said lightly.
"What divorce papers?" I screamed weakly. "I never signed any divorce papers!"
"Of course you signed them, Sadie. You must have forgotten, right? You were still on medication after dialysis at that time, I guess."
My heart was beating very fast when I heard Trevor's voice this time.
"Trevor, honey, don't do this to me, please. I've given you everything you wanted, honey," I started to whimper unconsciously. "I've followed all your wishes. Please don't treat me like this."
Trevor chuckled. "You're always whining and making me sick, Sadie. You've made my life difficult for too long, so stop being so cocky and just go away!"
I couldn't help but sob. The pain in my body right now was nothing compared to my torn heart.
How cruel. I still didn't want to accept the reality, but in fact, Trevor took advantage of my illness to manipulate me, making me sign divorce papers that I never even read?
"I'm going home," I said as I pulled out the needles that were stuck along my arm. "I want to see you, honey, we need to talk. I don't want to divorce you, please, Trevor."
"My men are already in front of the hospital. Come with them and let's meet." Trevor's voice was so calm.
The phone call was cut off and with staggering steps, I walked out of the dialysis room and walked towards the elevator. Fresh blood dripped from my hand, from the injection site that I had forcibly pulled out.
"Oh, oh, ma'am, you can't go," someone called behind me. The bespectacled nurse approached me and grabbed my hand. "Ma'am, your procedure isn't finished yet. It's dangerous for you."
I waved her off and pushed her away. "Go! I have to see my husband now. I can't lose him! I have to stop him from marrying that b*tch!"
My hysterical screams made the nurse retreat with a frightened and confused face. I entered the elevator and went down to the lobby.
In front of the hospital yard, a black van was waiting and a burly man with sunglasses opened the door for me.
I had a bad feeling. Since when did Trevor have underlings who looked like thugs?
"Come in, ma'am, Mr. Trevor will be angry if you're late," the man said in a low, stiff tone.
When I entered the car, someone behind me ambushed me and pulled a black cloth over my head. I stuttered, panicking in the darkness that suddenly made me disoriented.
I also felt both of my hands tied in front and before I could scream, a cold and sharp object pressed against my neck. I knew what it was.
"Just shut up or your head will fall off before your voice reaches your throat," said a voice beside me.
Fear paralyzed me. Why would Trevor treat me like this? I loved him so much and always tried to give him whatever he wanted just to make him smile at me a little.
I gave all my shares in my father's inherited company to him, when he complained that my wealth made him feel inferior.
I also followed his wishes not to appear in publik. He said he was worried about my safety. That alone made me feel happy, without thinking for a moment that it was just an excuse so that no one would know that we were married.
While I was mourning myself, my hand was pulled hard and I was taken out of the car. My blindfold was removed, as were the ties on my hands and I was pushed hard until I fell on the hard sidewalk. My pants at the knees were torn and the rough asphalt scratched my knees.
I looked around and realized that I was on the edge of a very quiet dan long street. Behind me was a forest with large, dense trees.
"Why did you even bother bringing her here, Babe," a woman said in front of me. "Just let her die in the hospital!"
I looked up and saw Trevor and Marsha standing side by side, Trevor's arm around Marsha's waist.
"Oh, honey," a soft groan escaped my lips.
"Stop calling me that, Sadie, I hate it," Trevor snapped. He crouched down in front of me and grabbed my chin hard. "You signed the divorce papers and the transfer of assets, so now you should leave and never come back!"
"Trevor, don't be like that, honey, please, I love you and I've given you everything I have, please don't treat me like this," I whimpered breathlessly. My breath hitched and I unconsciously hit my chest.
"You're so stubborn," Trevor snapped, smacking my chin. "Don't ever show up in my life again or you'll regret ever meeting me in your life!"
"I gave you all my wealth," I snapped softly. "My company, my inheritance, my mansion! Where is your heart, Trevor? Why are you so cruel?"
Trevor laughed sarcastically. "Consider it my compensation, after all these years of having to deal with you."
"Haven't you felt even a little bit of love for me all this time, Trevor? After everything I've done to you?"
Trevor stood up and put his hands on his hips. "Not at all!"
"Babe, just kill her," Marsha said. "I'm afraid she'll show up and ruin our wedding later."
Trevor turned and sneered cruelly at me. "She won't last long. There are no people or vehicles passing through this area. She could crawl and die before she reaches a kilometer. Or... Maybe her kidney burns."
Marsha laughed and now she was crouching in front of me and grabbing my hair hard.
"Just die, Sadie. Don't ever disturb our happiness again," she said with a grin.
"I won't die easily, B*tch!" I growled while holding back the pain in my head. "I'll come back and expose all your rottenness!"
"Tsk tsk tsk, really shameless," Marsha taunted while pulling my hair harder. "In the end you will still die miserably, Sadie. If not for being attacked by the forest ghost behind you, you would also die from your damaged kidneys. Do you think, six months of consuming the poison that Trevor deliberately put into your food and drink, will keep you healthy like a wonder woman?"
I gasped. Marsha's words hit me like lightning. Trevor poisoned me to the point of kidney failure?
I watched Marsha's back walk away from me toward the car parked on the side of the road across from where I was kneeling.
Trevor stood with his back to me, talking to one of the men who had kidnapped me.
My hand reached out and touched a fairly large rock. Mustering all the remaining strength, I grabbed the rock and stood with difficulty, then started walking toward Trevor, aiming the rock in my hand at his head.
"BOSS, WATCH OUT!"
The scream made me shock, then, distracted for two seconds, my eyes stared blankly at the black van speeding toward me.
I was numb, but still conscious when my body was thrown far from my original place and I heard my skull hit the asphalt with a terrible cracking sound and I could feel the contents of my head scattering.
Then, darkness enveloped me completely.
