Seventeen-year-old Aria Blackwood always thought she was just an ordinary girl-until a brutal attack on her village reveals her hidden bloodline: she's the last living descendant of the Moonborne, a powerful ancient werewolf clan thought to be extinct. When she's rescued by Kade Draven, a dangerously attractive lone wolf with a haunted past and a bad reputation, Aria is thrust into a world of secrets, supernatural war, and a bond neither of them saw coming. Kade is no hero-he's hunted, cursed, and barely holding onto his humanity. But there's something about Aria that awakens the beast within-and maybe the heart he thought he lost. As tensions rise between the vampire covens and werewolf packs, Aria discovers her destiny is bound to the Blood Moon... and to Kade. But will love be enough to stop the darkness rising within and around them?

Chapter 1 The Stranger in the Woods

The wind howled through the trees, echoing like a warning. Aria tightened her grip on the leather strap of her satchel as she made her way through the forest path, the moonlight piercing through the thick canopy above. Her heart was racing-and not just from the cold.

Something was out there. Watching.

She heard it before she saw it-a low growl, guttural and inhuman. Her breath caught. She spun around, searching the shadows. Nothing.

Then suddenly-he was there.

Leaning against a tree as if he'd been waiting, a tall figure stepped into the light. Jet-black hair, a leather jacket, silver rings glinting on his fingers-and eyes that glowed faintly gold in the dark.

"Lost, little girl?" His voice was low and rough, like smoke and steel.

Aria backed up a step. "Who are you?"

He smirked, and for a moment, something feral flashed across his face. "Someone you'll want to stay away from."

"But you're following me."

His smirk dropped. "Because you're about to walk into vampire territory. And I don't think you're ready for that."

Her pulse hammered. "You know about vampires?"

"Know them? I kill them."

Aria's breath hitched. "What are you?"

He took one step forward. "The last person you want to trust."

Then his eyes flared-pure gold. A snarl tore from his throat as a massive shadow lunged from the trees behind her. Without thinking, he moved-faster than any human should.

And in that moment, Aria knew her life was about to change forever.

The creature leaped, a blur of claws and crimson eyes, but he was faster.

With a savage growl, the stranger slammed into it mid-air. They tumbled into the underbrush, snarls and tearing flesh echoing in the night. Aria froze, eyes wide, heart hammering. She wanted to run-should have run-but her legs wouldn't obey.

She caught glimpses of the fight through the shadows. The attacker-pale, sleek, too fast-wasn't human. A vampire. And the stranger... he was changing. His bones shifted with sickening cracks, his spine arching. Fur rippled down his arms, claws bursting from his fingers. His roar shattered the silence.

A werewolf.

Aria staggered back. Her grandmother's stories hadn't been myths-they were real. All of it. The creatures, the curses, the war.

The vampire hissed and lunged again, slashing the werewolf's side. Blood sprayed, dark and steaming. But the werewolf didn't slow. He twisted, jaws locking on the vampire's throat. A horrible shriek rang out-and then, silence.

Moments later, the wolf stood panting over the vampire's crumpled body, blood dripping from its muzzle.

Aria couldn't move. Her breath fogged in the cold air, her limbs trembling. Slowly, the wolf turned to face her.

She took a step back. "D-Don't..."

But instead of attacking, it stepped into the moonlight-and began to shift. Bones cracked and shrank, fur retracting. In seconds, the man was standing before her again-wounded, bloodied, but very human. Mostly.

"You okay?" he asked, voice rasping. He winced, gripping his side.

She nodded, still in shock. "You're a... werewolf."

"Sharp." He smirked, though it looked more like a grimace. "And you... what are you doing out here alone?"

"I-I was just walking home. I didn't think..." She glanced at the vampire's corpse, bile rising in her throat. "I didn't know things like that were real."

"They are." He wiped the blood from his hands and met her eyes. "And they're hunting something. Or someone."

She didn't like the way he said that.

"Who are you?" she asked again, her voice steadier this time.

He paused. "Name's Kade."

"Kade who?"

"Just Kade." He turned, glancing back into the forest as if listening for something. "You need to get out of here. Now. It's not safe, especially for someone like you."

"Someone like me?"

He looked at her then-really looked. Something flickered in his gaze. Recognition? Surprise? Fear?

"You don't know what you are... do you?" he whispered.

Aria's blood ran cold. "What are you talking about?"

But Kade just shook his head. "You're not ordinary. Trust me."

Then, before she could press him, he was gone-vanishing into the trees as silently as he'd appeared.

Aria stood alone, the wind whispering through the branches, her mind spinning with questions and fear. Somewhere deep inside her, something stirred. A truth she didn't understand... yet.

But after tonight, she would never be the same.
