Kael staggered through the ruins of what had once been the capital. His armor was cracked beyond repair, dried blood covered his face, and the hilt of his sword was all that remained after the blade had shattered during the last battle.
A cold notification appeared before his eyes.
[Health: 3%]
[Mana: 0%]
[Stamina: 1%]
He laughed bitterly, "So this is how it ends..."
Around him, thousands of bodies lay scattered across the battlefield. Hunters,Soldiers,Mages,Friends.Everyone he had ever fought beside.
The strongest guilds in the world had fallen within a single day. Above them floated the source of their despair- The Eternal Sovereign.
It was a colossal being cloaked in darkness, its face hidden behind a crown of rotating golden rings. Every movement distorted space itself. Its crimson eyes looked upon humanity with complete indifference.
To it, they weren't enemies. They were insects.
One of the surviving hunters collapsed beside Kael,"We... lost..."
Kael said nothing. He already knew that the World Alliance was gone. The Hunter Kings were dead. Even the legendary S-Rank heroes who had inspired millions had disappeared beneath the monster hordes. There was no one left.
A deafening roar echoed across the ruined city.
An enormous dragon crashed into the ground, lifeless. The creature had fought beside humanity until its final breath.
Kael clenched his fists,"So many... sacrifices..."
A shadow fell over him. Three figures landed nearby. The remaining members of the High Council. Their pristine armor contrasted sharply with the blood-soaked battlefield.
Council Chairman Aldren stepped forward, his expression unreadable, "Kael."
Kael narrowed his eyes, "You survived."
"Barely" The old man sighed, "It doesn't matter anymore."
Something about his tone made Kael uneasy, "What do you mean?"
Another council member stepped forward carrying a crystalline cube pulsing with silver light. Kael recognized it instantly,it was the Chrono Core- Humanity's final artifact and the relic everyone had fought to protect.
His eyes widened, "You found it..."
Aldren nodded, "Yes."
"Then why aren't we activating it?"
The council members exchanged glances. Kael's instincts screamed.
Aldren looked directly into his eyes,"The Core requires a sacrifice."
"So choose one."
"We already have."
Kael frowned,"What are you talking about?"
The old man's expression hardened, "You."
Everything froze, "...What?"
"You possess the highest Temporal Affinity among the survivors."
"No..."
"The Chrono Core can send one soul into the past."
Kael's heartbeat quickened,"You mean..."
"You can rewrite history." Hope flickered inside him for the first time in years.
"We can still save everyone." Aldren looked away, "No."
Kael blinked,"What?"
"There isn't enough energy."
"The Core can only send one person."
"Exactly." Relief washed over Kael, "Then send me."
Then...a blade pierced his chest. His eyes widened. Blood spilled onto the broken earth.
He slowly looked down. A silver sword protruded from his heart. Behind him stood another council member, "I'm... sorry."
Kael coughed violently, "Why...?"
Aldren's voice trembled,"The Core only works if the vessel dies at the moment of activation."
"So...you must become the catalyst."
Kael stumbled backward,His legs gave out and He collapsed.
Rage surged through every fiber of his being,"You... could've told me..."
"We feared you would refuse."
Kael laughed weakly despite the pain,"...I'd have agreed."
The council members froze, "You... would?"
"If sacrificing myself... saves humanity..." Blood filled his mouth, "...then why lie?"
No one answered. Regret filled their faces. Aldren knelt beside him, "I'm sorry."
Kael's vision blurred. The battlefield faded into darkness. The screams became distant echoes.
The Eternal Sovereign slowly descended from the sky, watching everything unfold. Its deep voice resonated across reality, "So... the cycle begins again."
Kael barely heard it, Cycle?
Before he could think further, the Chrono Core floated into the air. Silver light erupted across the battlefield. Runes covered the sky. Time itself stopped.
Every falling stone...Every drop of blood...Every dying breath...Frozen.
The Core shattered into countless glowing fragments.
A voice unlike anything Kael had ever heard echoed inside his soul.
[Compatible Soul Detected.]
His eyes widened,"What...?"
[Temporal Authority Confirmed.]
The council members looked around in confusion. They couldn't hear it,only Kael could.
[Initializing Chrono System...]
His breathing stopped- System?
The Eternal Sovereign's crimson eyes narrowed for the first time, "Impossible." Its voice contained Fear. The silver light swallowed the battlefield. Reality cracked like glass. The world shattered into countless fragments of time.
Kael felt himself falling through endless memories-childhood, battles, friendships, betrayals, victories, and countless moments that no longer seemed fixed.
The mysterious voice spoke one final time.
[Mission Accepted.]
[Returning User to the Origin Point.]
[History Will Be Rewritten.]
Then everything went black.
Far away, beyond time itself, a pair of ancient golden eyes slowly opened, "...Interesting."
And for the first time in ten years...The future changed.
