I was in the middle of my skincare routine when I heard it. The sound of the tornado siren that indicates everyone had to evacuate to the safe zone. In a rush, I took my phone and ran out with my other neighbours. "No no no this can't be happening please. Not again." __________ Noah Johnson, a guy with a background of violent fights and bullying grew up to live a pretty basic life. But soon his dull, gray life turned the opposite when he met her. Leslie Williams, a girl that has went through the hardest thing in life, losing her family. When these two worlds meet, Noah can't help but grow a fondness to Leslie but she is too lost in her own survivor's guilt to realise her own feelings.
19 September 2019 / Leslie
I woke up to the smell of scrambled eggs and bacon. I quickly got out from bed and made my way to the kitchen. "Good morning honey! I made breakfast", said Sarah, Leslie's mom. "Would you mind if you helped me wake the twins up?" "You don't even need to ask mom I should be helping around the house", said Leslie while stiffling a laugh.
She went to her little twin sister's room and woke them up while admiring their cuteness. "Hey munchkins wake upp it's already 3 pm!" she said lovingly. The twins woke up and goggled at each other, surprised that they woke up late but not knowing the fact that Leslie was joking. "HAHAHAHA look at your faces! Anyways go brush your teeth mom made breakfast." Maya, the oldest twin croaked a disheartened 'okay' probably because she was disturbed in the middle of a dream.
"Mom where's Dad by the way?", said Leslie. "Oh he's still sleeping, yesterday he had to rush to the hospital at 4 am for an emergency" Lucas Williams, Leslie's dad was a renowned neurosurgeon. He had always been the talk of town because of his good looks, has a body of a greek god and also having a high IQ. Leslie was lucky she possessed the genes of her dad. No offense, her mom looks really normal if not for her amazing personality. After her parents' wedding, many was in disbelief that such a man would marry that kind of woman but it goes to say that true beauty is found within; and that's exactly what attracted her father.
"Mom Dad I need to go to Caxton for a job interview. I'll be back at around 7 pm" "Oh okay honey I wish you the best! Show them what you can do GIVE IT YOUR ALL!!!" shouted Lucas from the kitchen. Leslie chuckled as she walked out of her house. Caxton was an hour and a half drive from her house. She's wanted to become a fashion designer ever since she started talking and finally was offered a job in a popular clothing store in Caxton with the help of her dad.
After a few hours the interview ended quite successfully. She was driving to her house when a roadblock appeared and were guarded by policemen. "What's going on??" The other cars started honking and questioning. That's when a policeman stood out and announced "There has been an unexpected tornado in this area. Please be patient, firefighters and ambulances are at the scene to help victims"
What? An unexpected tornado? Leslie took a while to process his words. No. They're going to be fine. I know it. Even with the encouragement from her thoughts, she couldn't hold back a tear from escaping. "Sir my family's in there I want to see them" she said in a panicked voice to one of the policemen. "Young lady, everyone's family is in there, don't get me wrong I understand you're deeply troubled but we have no choice but to block this road for no further damage" She went back in her car and turned on the radio. "An unexpected tornado with the maximum winds of 216 mph has hit the quiet town of Rane. So far medical experts have found 12 dead bodies and 6 injured. We are still waiting for more information so please stay tuned."
12 DEAD BODIES?? There was no way in hell her family members were in that count. No way IN HELL. She wanted to see her family now. She wanted to see them desperately, safe and sound that is.
After a few hours, they could pass and she hurriedly returned to her house and was met with a crashing reality. Her once beautiful homey house had been crushed to pieces.. A person came up and explained to her softly that her family had been trapped in the house and couldn't run. The ceiling had fallen on them causing each of her family member's death. She slowly walked up to give her parents and twin sisters' one last glance. Her heart was broken upon seeing their smashed faces and limp bodies. She couldn't hold all of the burden and finally fell on the ground sobbing.
It was just a few hours ago, she saw her mom's cheerful face, woke her little munchkins up, heard her dad's voice.. It was all too much. Why hadn't she returned sooner? How did her life change so much in a day? If only she didn't go to that interview.. Thousands of thoughts filled her mind as she kept wondering what it would be like if she had been there for them.
