He's the prince of werewolves. She's the princess of demons and witches. Silently falling for her childhood best friend, Lola doubts the chance of them ever becoming together and denies the feelings she has for him. "You're a werewolf, Jake! I will be a temporary substitute till your mate comes." My chest heaved up and down, struck by the harsh reality. Mates are sacred to werewolves. The love that mates have for each other is unlike all beings.
Lola's POV
'Beep beep beep', the alarm rang. Groaning, I rolled onto my back and stretched my arms.
Gosh I hate waking up early in the morning.
Usually, I don't wake up this early but today is not like any other day. I smiled at the thought of it. It hasn't been a long time since I've last seen him. We see each other often. But today, not only will he be coming, but the Kings and Queens of all four kingdoms.
Our world is different from that of the humans. Angels, demons, witches, vampires and werewolves live in the supernatural world; Of course, each has his own kingdom. But ever since my parents married, the witches and demons kingdoms became one.
I am Lola, the princess of demons and witches. My parents are King Crest and Queen Penelope, the ones that brought peace to our world.
Demons and witches used to despise one another, mainly because of the blood shed that had occurred over the ages. But my mother, the controller of all four elements, defeated the very cause of war.
The prophecy said that one day, a witch able to control all four natural elements, will bring peace to the supernatural world. Queen Penelope did so by slaying the King of Demons, my grandfather. On that day, a war broke out. The demon army split and my parents won the war. It is known as Thaldin war, for the war took place in Thaldin.
My father was next in line to become king, so he directly claimed his right. Later, my parents got married which in turn merged the two empires. Their love story has become some kind of a legend.
I sighed getting up from bed. I could see from my window that all preparations were set. A red carpet covered the ground and roses lied on both sides of it. Banners and decorations were all over the castle. It was beautiful. The servants were all over the castle checking that everything is in place.
Walking into my closet, I put on a V-neck simple baby pink colored dress. The heels were also pink, just a little bit of a faint pink. Last night, I spent a full hour trying to figure out what to wear. Thankfully, my mom came to the rescue.
Today I will finally see Jake. Every time I think of him I can't help but smile. He's such a handsome guy. We keep on bickering like siblings, he ruffles my hair and I hit his arm. With time, I developed feelings for him. We used to do everything together but as we got older, duties called.
Him being the heir of the werewolves kingdom, he had to accompany his father regularly to get to know the responsibilities of a king.
"Lola." My mom's voice brought me out of my trance.
"You're still not ready. They'll be here in no time." Her eyes pierced into mine, looking at me with both seriousness and humor. From the beginning, my mom knew of my crush. She could see the way Jake looks at me and the way I look at him. She even calls us love birds, when we are alone of course.
My mom and I look so much alike. Silky black hair and wide violet eyes.
"You still need to do your hair and-"
"Mommy mommy, I look like a princess!" The munchkin I call my sister ran into the room. She still hasn't gotten the idea that she is indeed a princess.
"Darling you look wonderful." Mom caressed her cheek and brought her into her arms. Melody, my sister, is the youngest of the three of us. She's twelve years old and the most hyper child I've ever seen. Her golden curls bounced when she turned around to show us the puffiness of her white dress.
"Why isn't your hair done?" She put her arms on her hips, her doe eyes frowning at me. I rolled my eyes. She's such an 'on time' person.
"I will do them! Don't nag." I replied putting on a heart shaped silver necklace.
Someone knocked on my bed room's door answered by a come in from my mom. The hair and makeup specialists have finally arrived.
We stood in front of the castle's doors. My parents' eyes were shining; they couldn't wait to see their friends. Yes, the kings and queens are their friends. Long story short, they knew each other from the Supernatural Academy and became friends ever since.
My younger brother, Alexa stood on my left whereas Melody stood on my right. Alexa is a spit image of my dad. Black hair and wide silver eyes. He has much of his personality too; Persistent, bold, and strong. He's just fourteen but looks and thinks beyond his age.
My parents stood next to each other. They had their hands locked in together. I couldn't help but wish that someday Jake and I would be in their place. It's hard, especially with him being a werewolf. He'll eventually find a mate and marry her just like his dad and ancestors had done.
I felt my eyes water. No Lola, no. This is not the time to cry! I scolded myself. I don't like thinking of it but in the end, it's the truth.
Suddenly, the gates opened and the limos were in sight.
Oh dear, that's them. My heart pounded. I don't know what's happening to me. It's not like this is the first time I see him.
Two limos parked in front and the doors opened. Dad smiled as he saw his longtime friends. King Roland and his wife Claudia were the first to get out. They are the royals of the Vampire kingdom and no; they don't get affected by sunlight. It's just a myth. Their kids, Aurby and Kenneth were hot on their heels.
Next came King Peter and his wife Violet, the rulers of the Angels Kingdom. The moment they came out a grin spread on Uncle Greg face. I call him uncle because he's like a second father to me, I love him dearly.
King Roland gaze adverted to me.
"He's like your second father and I'm not. What a shame Lola." He tsked making me laugh. Yeah, he can read people's minds.
"Well, you're all grown up. Such a beautiful lady." He winked. Dad and uncle Roland hugged each other.
"Long time no see Roland." My dad's smile spread from ear to ear.
"You can't live without us, I know." Uncle Greg interfered, his eyes full of humor.
After all the greeting and hugs, I noticed a third limo parking.
King Jayden, ruler of the werewolves kingdom stepped out in all his glory. According to my mom, he was a ladies' man. But ever since he met his mate, queen Lucy, he changed one eighty degrees. His bright green eyes sparkled as his eyes set on us. They came closer and closer and with every step they took, I could feel my heart pounding even more.
Calm down Lola, it's either you calm down or embarrass yourself. When I get nervous, I usually start talking silly and end up embarrassing myself; I don't want this to happen today. No, not at all.
Jake was right behind his dad and I nearly drooled. He looked so handsome with the black tux he wore. I didn't realize I was staring until someone next to me coughed. From the corner of my eyes, I saw uncle Roland chuckle. He's never going to stop doing that.
Our eyes met and it was like falling in love with him all over again. His green eyes, filled with warmth, were looking down at me with some kind of love. Wait, love? He flashed me that one billion-dollar smile of his and ran his hand through his blonde hair.
"Didn't your parents teach you not to stare princess?" He teased, his deep masculine voice sent chills down my spine.
"I wasn't staring." Way to go Lola. He said nothing but I could see that smirk plastered on his face.
"Why are you sitting here all alone?" I could hear his footsteps as he got closer. My parents and their guests sat in the grand salon of the castle. I sat there doing nothing, neither I nor Jake could talk, so I decided it's best to go to the garden rather than sit and hear old stories.
He sat down on the bench next to me.
"I got bored." My hands were locked together as I stared off into the site of roses.
"Every time I see you, you get prettier and prettier." I froze in place. Well, that's a first.
"And you get more handsome every time I see you." I wanted to smack myself. As if his ego wasn't big enough. What he did next surprised the hell out of me. His put his hand on mine and smiled. What is he doing? I got excited but at the same time felt nervous. We usually laugh and make fun of each other, but never had he done this before.
The moment I looked at him, I could see that he had something to say. As if he was contemplating whether to say it or not.
We kept staring at each other, neither one of us finding the right words. His expression changed from a soft to a sad one. He looked down at our hands and slowly removed his.
"I'm going to my chamber. You need anything?" He sighed getting up.
I looked up at him and shook my head no. He nodded and turned around. I watched him walking away, a million things on my mind.
I woke up the next morning my head feeling heavy. I was thinking about Jade all night, so I hadn't slept well. Pulling on a plain white shirt and denim jeans, I walked down the castle's hallways to reach the garden. The guards and servants bowed their heads in respect as I walked by. I don't really like feeling superior, but I got used to it.
Reaching the garden, my eyes roamed the place. We were having breakfast together. Everyone was there except for one person. Is he not coming? I mentally smacked myself. I shouldn't keep thinking about him. He'll eventually find his mate and break my heart.
I came near the big table fixed at the center of the garden. It was covered with a silk white sheet and had red roses put in small vases on top of it. Two seats were empty at the very end. I sat there having no other choice.
"Good morning," I enthusiastically greeted.
"Good morning princess," My dad softly responded. Being king, my dad has to keep a straight composure and a serious face. But when he's with us, his affectionate side surfaces. I returned his smile with a smile of my own.
"Aya dear, have you seen Jade?" Queen Lucy, Jade's mom asked.
Before I could say a word, Aunt Beatrice, my mom's best friend replied.
"He'll come, don't worry." She stared at me amusingly. Mom couldn't keep her mouth shut and spilled everything to Aunt Beatrice. She practically can't hide anything from her.
I looked down blushing. The footsteps I heard made me look up, and there he was. Today he wore more casual clothes, just like the rest of us. I tried my best to keep my eyes set on his face but that tight black shirt he wore made things a lot harder.
"Sorry I'm late." And he took a seat next to me.
Breakfast went smooth. Like always, we didn't get to talk much because of our parents. King Bryson kept talking about pack business and rogues hoping to find a solution soon. He didn't want the rogues to stay wandering all over his kingdom, so he thought it was best to make them join packs.
I excused myself and went to my chamber.
Later, I decided to go shopping downtown. Maybe I'll get distracted and stop thinking about Jade.
I didn't tell my parents since they'll order guards to stay with me. I wanted to feel independent for once. Entering my favorite boutique, I tried on a velvet lace dress. Definitely buying it. It hugged my figure perfectly revealing my long hidden curves. I'm more of a baggy shirt and jeans girl, so dresses aren't my thing. Hopefully, Jace might find me attractive.
Darn it Lola!
I paid for it and decided to discover the town. The buildings were of a three story height at maximum each sizzled in mesmerizing mosaic stones. Every building was a demonstrate of a different art concept. A specific one caught my eye the most. It was an arrangement of stones portraying an alone wolf in a field. I wonder what it meant.

My gaze finally drifted from the portrait and onto the abandoned road. My gut twisted, something didn't fell right., I turned around to know expecting someone behind me. Instead, no one was there. I probably should return to the castle. I gasped nearly forgetting my phone in the back of my pocket.
"I'm in a lot of trouble." There were nearly a thousand missed calls. All of a sudden, my phone rang. I looked at the dialer and my heart skipped a beat. Jade.
"Hello." It was nearly a question. I heard him blow out a sigh of relief.
"Where the hell are you Lola?" He growled. Anger was evident in his tone, but so was worry.
"I went down town to shop." I was met by silence. I knew he was trying his best not to blow up.
"Get your ass down here, now." With that, the line went dead.
I couldn't help but smile at the fact that he was worried sick. Putting the phone back where it was, I walked heading towards the castle but that uneasy feeling of someone watching me was still there.
The moment I stepped foot inside the castle's walls, I was bombarded with hugs. My parents nearly had a heart attack. I looked into my father's eyes, they were gleaming with relief. He warned me not go alone again, or else. Mom rambled how she's going to glue guards in front of my chamber's doors. Just what I needed.
"Next time, I'll make sure you're locked up in a dungeon young lady." Uncle Jayden joked. He ruffled my hair making me snort. I bet he will.
"There will be no next time." Jade strolled down the hall, his eyes flaring. Uncle Greg looked at me with amused but knowing eyes. I looked away saying nothing.
"Well then, I'll leave you two alone." He walked past Jade towards the assembly hall.
Jade stared at me, fists clenched. Heavily sighing, he ushered me to follow him and I complied walking next to him.
We reached the terrace neither of us saying a word. I wanted to brighten the mood but noticing Jade's dark expression, I thought it was better to keep my mouth shut. Was he that worried?
"Do you know how scared I was?" The calmness of his voice surprised me. Only minutes ago he seemed infuriated.
"I thought something happened to you. I was about to send warriors to look after you for god's sake!" He ran a hand through his sandy blonde hair. A smile tugged my lips.
Putting a hand on his arm, I offered a shy smile.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to worry you. I just wanted to go out alone, without guards. You know, feel like a normal person." My voice trembled.
I expected him to continue splashing out his rage at him, but instead I saw his eyes soften. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me closer. I stood frozen for a second but instantly relaxed as I inhaled his scent. It was a mixture of both mint and pine reminding me of the forest.
When he pulled away, his eyes were a vibrant green. He smiled down at me, eyes content and sincere.
"Promise you'll never do that." He raised an eyebrow daring me to say the opposite.
"I promise." I replied.
"Always the obedient one." He grinned teasing me. He was doing what he does best, changing the mood. Narrowing my eyes at him, I puffed in disagree. He let out a loud symphonic-like laugh. I wouldn't mind hearing it for the rest of my life.
"C'mon, let's go back to the assembly hall." He walked past me and I followed. I couldn't help but admire his figure. Wide leaf green eyes, sharp cheekbones, straight nose, and lips I'd die to taste.
Whereas for his body, oh dear lord. He might actually be the sexiest man alive. Around six foot one, broad shoulders and a strong muscular frame. I shook my head trying to get those thoughts out.
You should not think of him this way Lola! I scolded myself as I followed him.
Relaxing on my bed, I felt my phone vibrate.
'Asleep?' He texted.
'Not yet. Why haven't you slept?'
'Couldn't. Have a lot on my mind." His reply was instant
'Like?' I waited. A minute or two passed before my phone vibrated again.
'Someone.' I looked at the text and instantly, my eyes widened. Could it be? I quickly dismissed the idea. A girl in the castle might have caught his attention.
'Goodnight princess.' I arched my brow in confusion. He clearly didn't want to talk about it. I bit my lip as I sent a goodnight text back and put the phone away. I noticed a folded piece of paper on the nightstand. That's weird.
Getting up, I reached out taking the paper and opened it.
Overcome with fear, I stared at the written black ink, fingers trembling.
'He will get to you, soon' was written on the paper.
