KACEY POV
FLASHBACK
I approached the building slowly as my stomach tightened with each step I took.
The bouncer of club kiss stood tall and intimidating when he laid his eyes on me he had a frown plastered on his face.
"What do you want, kid?" He asked in a harsh tone that made me flinch.
I cleared my throat nervously. I was too scared to talk. I took off my father's baseball cap and my glasses.
"I want to work here as a stripper."
The words left my lips before I could stop them.
AUTHOR POV
"Are you ready to give your father a big smile?" He asked curiously while Kacey hid from the camera and made a naughty face.
"I don't want my photo to be taken."
He pulled away the camera and noticed the sadness in his daughter's eyes.
He sat beside her trying to console her.
"Why don't you want your photo to be taken sweetie?" He asked in a calm voice.
"It's the other kids at school who are always making fun of my glasses and they always call me names."
"Papa, do you think that I'm ugly?" Kacey finally asked.
Lucas looked horrified and recovered quickly because he didn't want to give his daughter the wrong impression.
"Darling you are beautiful just the way you are. I hope you remember that because looks don't matter as long as you have a good heart."
"Where is your sister?"
"I left her in her room a few minutes ago."
"So you should talk to your sister, maybe she might be able to help you."
"Stacey doesn't care about me."
"She always laughs with the kids who bully me."
Kacey got up and ran outside.
Lucas couldn't understand the fight that was going on between his two daughters but he only knew one thing and that was to put an end to it.
He went to find Amber at the bakery a few minutes later he arrived at the bakery since it was just a few blocks away from their house.
"Amber, we need to talk."
"You sound so serious, what do you want us to talk about?"
It was like Amber had no clue about what was going on between her two daughters.
"It's about Stacey and Kacey. They aren't getting along and I have a feeling that they will eventually find out the truth."
Amber took off her apron, wiping the floor off her clothes.
"We said that we wouldn't have this conversation because it was in the past Lucas so why are you bringing it up?'
"Look Amber I only brought it up because the girls are eventually going to find out that they aren't really our daughter's."
Amber looked around the bakery so no one would overhear their conversation.
"I don't want to have this conversation with you Lucas."
"Sooner or later Stacey and Kacey are going to find out that they were being raised by the people who were kidnapped when they were just helpless babies."
"You can't deny the truth Amber, what we did six years ago was wrong and we deprived these two innocent girls of a good life."
"They have wealthy parents who can give them everything."
"You are not going to take away my daughter's from me Lucas don't even think about it."
"Amber..."
"I don't want to hear anything you have to say just leave me alone."
"Mom."
"Dad."
Lucas turned around only to find Kacey in the doorway.
"Are you fighting again?"
Amber faked a smile.
"Sweetie, how long have you been standing in the doorway? Listening to the conversation of adults isn't good."
"I didn't listen to anything I promise."
"What did I tell you about lies?"
"Do you know what happens to naughty kids who lie to their parents?"
Kacey nodded quietly.
"They go on punishment," she muttered quietly.
Lucas stood in front of Kacey protecting her.
"You heard what she said. Amber , my daughter isn't a liar; she always tells the truth."
"You're spoiling that girl way too Lucas."
Lucas smiled at his daughter.
"I know that you're telling the truth my dear I believe you."
"Call your sister so that we can make some cookies together."
Kacey nodded quietly and ran out of the bakery and went to find Stacey.
Kacey opened the door to her sister's room and walked inside.
Stacey glared at her younger sister.
"Haven't you ever heard of knocking?"
"Dad wants us to go help him make cookies at the bakery."
"Well unlike you I have a lot of homework to do so just leave my room."
"Stacey, why are you so angry with me? Just tell me what I did wrong and I'll apologize to you."
"Just leave my room."
"Was it because I got better grades than you on our last test?"
"I would have gotten better grades Kacey if you had just helped out your own sister with a few answers. You are such a nerd."
"I would have helped you study but you're always busy hanging out with your friends. Stacey being popular at school won't take you to college."
Stacey tossed a pillow at her sister.
"Get out nerd!"
Kacey left her sister's room with a heavy heart and went back to the bakery.
"She doesn't want to help dad."
"That's okay Kacey we can make the cookies and give her a few right?"
Kacey nodded quietly.
"I guess so."
Lucas smiled at his daughter while Amber went to console Stacey.
"Dad, can I ask you something?"
Lucas was kneading the dough for the cookies.
"Yes, go ahead."
"Does mom hate me?"
"No she doesn't hate you, why do you think like that? In fact she loves you very much."
"She loves Stacey more than me."
"Your mother might now show her affection sometimes but it doesn't mean that she hates you Kacey."
"It doesn't feel that way she always finds some kind of fault with me even when Stacey is the one in the wrong."
"Your mother and I love the both of you equally and nothing is ever going to change that."
"You promise?"
"Yes."
