"Dr. Maya, your services are needed in room 102 a new patient have been brought in," the senior doctor said as he walked up to them.

Maya and her fellow intern were just breaking for lunch.

"But sir I am assigned in another room, that's not my room. Dr. Linda changed me yesterday, sir," She replied politely.

"Yes I know that, but, now that Dr. Annie is not in, she left earlier for lunch, but she is yet to return. Just step in for her when she returns, she will take your place. The patient has been bitten by a snake, hurry," Dr. Alik said as he wore gloves and walked to the other side of the hospital wing.

Maya, is on an internship as nurse at a private hospital in Nairobi. The Hepburn hospital to be precise, she can't say no to doctor Alik because he is a senior doctor. Dr. Alik is among those who played a key role in selecting her as an intern in that hospital.

Maya turned and walked towards the room 102 that she have been told. She opened the door and froze, to her surprise, the man who had been brought in the ward has been bitten by a poisonous snake. His leg had already swollen, and the patient had started to change in color.

What surprised her was not that the leg has been swollen, but the patient. She recognized him, she recognizes him so well. The patient was none other than Frank Hawking, the heir to the Hawking enterprises and also their family has the biggest shares in the Hepburn hospital.

'No, this is not him,' she thought as she closed the door hurriedly and run to the head doctor's office, Dr. Alik.

Maya knocked on the door hurriedly as she pushed it open. Dr. Alik was not in, Maya left the office searching for him. Her heart beating faster like a party drum.

She prayed silently as she ran, some interns were surprised by her. The way she was behaving, running up and down like a man woman.

Unfortunately for her, she pumped into her step-sister, Audrey Hepburn. She was coming from lunch break and the way she glared at Maya, it showed how much she resents her.

Maya wanted to ask her if she had seen the head doctor, but then walked past each other.

'What do I do? What if he dies? I should do something than going around searching for Dr. Alik,' Maya thought, then decided to go back to room 102.

She had learned on the first aid to give to someone who has been bitten by a snake. So, she intended to apply that.

She walked in the room, Maya walked at the bed, and struggled to lift the pant on the patient's leg. She took a stretchable bandage., cut them into two and tied around the leg. One at the lower and the other at the upper, she left the affected place in the middle.

'At least that will help the poison not to move', she thought.

She then took some scalpel and tried pulling out the small snake's fangs.

Maya, placed the fangs aside and thought of what to do next. She had no experience in these, since it was her first time dealing with a victim of a snake bites.

She scratched her head and didn't know what to do, the door opened and Dr. Alik walked in with Audrey following him.

"Have you performed first aid on him?," Doctor Alik asked as he wore clean gloves.

"Yeah... I ... I was trying, but he had passed out," Maya replied as she stepped aside.

"What?. Are ...are you crazy? You know his life is in danger, how can you be trying, Maya!" Aubrey hollowed.

"Hey ma'am, Lower your voice, he will be fine. He is going to theater now I have been informed that he was bitten by Gaboon viper, and it's very venomous," Doctor Alik instructed.

Maya exhaled as she stared at Frank, his eyes closed like someone who is sleeping peacefully. The door opened and a medical trolley, pushed in. Two other doctor came in and helped Dr. Alik in carrying Frank and placed him on it. They pushed the medical trolley out of the room, headed to the theater room.

Dr. Alik turned and looked at a nervous Maya.

"Dr. Maya, you are coming with me to the theater" Dr. Alik instructed.

"I am coming too," Audrey said.

"No, I am sorry ma'am, you are not a medic," Dr. Alik said.

"But, Dr.. Alik, just if you forgot, I am a Hepburn. My father owns these and the person you are going to operate, he is soon to be my husband."

Dr. Alik nodded,"My answer is still no, call Mr. Hepburn and tell him I said no."

Audrey humphed then turned and walked away. She was in the finance department. So, there was no way she will be allowed to enter the theater room, even if her family owns the hospital.
