"Ahh!" The nurse screamed for the umpteenth time as the knife was drove into her arm again, the feminine hand still wrapped around her neck.
"Miss!" The doctor took slow and steady steps towards them, his gaze fixed on the innocent nurse who was pleading to him, with her teary eyes.
"Drop the weapon now...we can settle this amicably...uh? Without having to hurt anyone"
His gaze was now fixed on the lady who was breathing heavily behind the nurse, her hair was the perfect definition of bird nest and her lips were bursted and bleeding.
"Come on...come over here" He stretched forth his hand and he was grateful that the lady was yielding to all his instructions.
Everyone watched in anticipation when she stretched forth her bloody hand towards the doctor's gloved hand.
'Just a little more...a little more' He prayed inwardly, beads of sweats rolling down his chins.
"Okay?"
"Okay" They heard her breathe out and almost everyone sighed in relief, including the nurse who became a prey to the insane woman.
The corridor was now silent as everyone watched patiently, she was reaching out towards him and he was doing the same, their fingers touched and everyone breathe out in relief, knowing that it was all over, but not until the nurse made to move away from her.
This little stupid action caught the lady's attention, her eyes gleamed with darkness and she retracted her hand immediately to run the bloody knife right in her arm again. The nurse screamed again and finally collapsed.
The doctor noticing the lady was being distracted, quickly flew towards her and the knife fell off her hand, rolling away from their reach. He held down the Insane lady who was struggling so hard beneath him and he requested for the tranquilizer which was in the syringe. It was passed to him immediately and he injected her.
They saw her finally relaxed and she was now weak and docile.
"Quick! Take her in"
Everyone watched as they carried her off to her ward, the unconscious and bleeding nurse was also rushed inside the ward for treatment.
"What are you all staring at? Leave!" And with that one command from the head doctor, everyone went on with their daily activities, both the staff and the patients. But, some stood behind for a little chitchat.
"I can't believe she's an heiress to the Sunshine company"
"That big company?! I can't believe this...what happened to her? How did she end up this way? Poor child?"
"Yes, she's really pitiful, I heard her family was murdered right before her eyes, that's why she's like this"
"I feel sorry for her...so pitiful, then if she's still here, who's running the company they left behind?"
"I heard her uncle was put in charge right after their deaths"
" I sense a foul play here..." And the gossip went on and on.
*******
" Mother... what's going on? Why are you locking me up? I hate it! Mother please!" Jessica kept knocking on the door of the closet, where she had been locked up by her mother.
This was such a harsh thing to do to one's child! She had thought in anger until she heard her voice again.
" No matter what you hear or see, don't you dare...I repeat, Jessica Darwin! Don't you dare make any sound...don't act, stay until everywhere is silent...do you understand?" Her voice was soft at the end and Jessica, even not knowing what was going on or what was going to happen, only nodded her head.
" Yes mom...I promise you"
" Good girl...now don't cry, I know you hate dark places but it's the only safe place for you, okay?"
" Okay" Tears rolled down her cheeks.
Jessica couldn't breathe well due to the pressure in the air she felt around her. Ever since she was small, she had been claustrophobic, but knowing this, her mother still choose to keep her daughter locked in the closet, claiming it to be the only safe place for her.
"Mom...are you going to be okay?" She asked in tears.
"It's just visitors, old friends, they will leave once they're done visiting, your Father and I will aid them"
" Then why are you locking me in if it was only visitors...? "
" Jessica Darwin! You talk too much, now will you keep shut uh? Never let anyone have an idea you're here...not even your dad, okay? "
" It's suffocating in here... "
" I know sweetie...just promise me, hmm? "
" Alright, I promise...I won't make even the slightest sound, just...stay safe"
Jessica knew her mother was hiding something from her but either ways, she wanted them to be safe. Her parent.
When she heard the footsteps retreating, her breaths quickened but she managed to stay calm. It was what her mother wants and think it's best for her, how could she manage to ruin her plans? No! She won't, she choose to be their strong girl until they're back for her.
"I need to be okay..." She stopped abruptly when she heard footsteps downstairs. Her ears twitched as she placed them on the closet door, wanting to eavesdrop but it was hopeless.
They were downstairs and she was upstairs in her mother's room, inside her closet. Her mother made sure to hid her in her room, that way no one would have an idea her daughter would be in her room.
"Don't make a sound" Jessica shut her eyes tightly as her palms got sweaty and beads of sweats rested across her pale but beautiful face. Her heartbeats increased ten folds as it got more unbearable to keep calm.
"What are you doing?! Why are you going into my room!"
Jessica picked up the loud shrilled voice of her mother. Was this her way of informing her of the intruder so she could hide so well and not make a sound? Jessica was worried and confused, not knowing what's going on and she wished there's a way to find out,but with her being stuck in the closet, she doubt that.
"Be a good girl Jessica... you're twenty! Stop acting like a child" She encouraged herself as if her safety depends on those words of encouragement.
The house was silent for a while and the room was silent too. Weren't they going to break into the room? Why is there a perfect silence?
The door to her room suddenly opened with a loud bang and she flinched in her position as she slowly looked through the thin gaps on the closet door, hoping to see what's going on.
"Get out of my room! I'm warning you" Jessica saw her mother came into view.
A smile rose to her lips unto she saw the frightful expression on her face as if she was scared. Jessica's smile faded as she leaned in to see whoever the intruder was.
"Daniel...leave and stop embarrassing yourself and our family"
That was when she saw the man that approached her mother. Her eyes widened in shock as she took her time to register his face in her head, those eyes, his walking steps, his weird sense of dressing.
'Uncle?'
