He ordered Chen to be released from jail and gave him a bag of gold as an apology.

Chen returned home with the gold and the magic paintbrush. He used the gold to help his grandmother and the other villagers. He continued to paint, but he only used the magic paintbrush for good purposes. He painted fields of rice and vegetables to feed the hungry, and he painted houses for the homeless. The emperor heard about Chen's good deeds and invited him to the palace. The emperor apologized again and asked Chen to paint a portrait of him. Chen agreed, and he painted a beautiful portrait of the emperor. The emperor was so pleased that he declared Chen to be the greatest artist in China. Chen became famous throughout the land for his beautiful paintings. He used his magic paintbrush to help the poor and the needy, and he lived happily ever after with his grandmother.
