It was a warm morning in spring, with sunshine sprinkling all over the earth. Everything seemed full of vitality and a brand-new day started.
Helen was cycling towards her university at a fast speed. She overslept this morning because she came back late from work last night. She cast a glance at her watch when she left the pub yesterday where she worked. It was 23:50 p.m. Too late!
Just like many students from poor families, Helen had to apply for loans to afford her education in the university. But the loans approved by law couldn't cover overall expenses so she had to earn more money to support herself. Sometimes, she even needed to send some money back home. Helen had two part-time jobs, one in a fast-food restaurant and the other in a pub.
The time was 8:10 a.m. and her class began at 8:20 a.m. With a slightly sweaty face, Helen was cycling faster and faster. As she was riding her bike in a straight line on the street, a little boy suddenly dashed to her, holding a ball with two hands.
"Oh, no." Helen shouted loudly. Meanwhile, she had to steered clear of him and turned sharp to the left. Fortunately, the boy wasn't hurt at all. He made a face to Helen and ran away.
"Damn it. That's too bad. Oh my god." Helen muttered, getting off her bike. Her bike bumped into a luxurious car on the roadside, which was roughly estimated to be worth one million dollars. A tiny but obvious scratch appeared on the body of the car.
Helen looked around and saw nobody in sight. After waiting about five minutes, still nobody came to her. She looked at her watch and there was not much time for her. She had to go.
Taking out a small piece of paper from her bag, Helen wrote her mobile number and some words on it: My bike bumped into your car and please contact me for compensation. Sorry for my fault. Helen.
She attached the note on the windshield and was ready to head for her university.
"Hi, wait a minute." a male voice came to her ears. Helen turned round.
A tall man in an exquisite suit, 30 years old or so, handsome, elegant and cold, came out from the sidewalk cafe. Two more men were walking behind him.
"This is my car, lady." He stood in front of Helen and said to her.
"Oh, sir, sorry, I had to bump into your car because of a small emergency. And I will pay for it." Helen explained, with an embarrassed and worried look on the face.
"Do you know the price of my boss's car?" One of the men spoke out, sizing up Helen.
The tall man stopped his guy by raising a finger and his underling immediately shut up and moved backward.
"It's ok, lady, if you are in hurry, you can leave first. And I will keep your note." He talked to Helen, staring at her with a serious look.
"Wow, you are pretty nice. So can I go now? I am late for class." Helen breathed a sigh of relief, responding to the man.
"And I will pay for what I've done, sure." She added.
"Ok, lady."
"What a day! He is a nice man, isn't he?" Helen got on her bike, saying to herself.
Looking at the sight of her back, the other guy was confused and asked the tall man, "boss, is that over?"
"I will deal with it." He said coldly.
The tall man was the only son of the founder of G Group, a giant enterprise engaging in various industries, covering the real estate, medicine and health products. G Group was the biggest taxpayer in the city and its business kingdom kept expanding.
His name was Peter G. He was just recalled by his parents from abroad half a year ago to undertake his responsibility for the family business.
Peter G was a brilliant, handsome, elegant but unapproachable man and his staff revered him too much. He often surprised people by solving complicated problems with unconventional means. It was his intelligence that doubled profits of his business in health products within half a year, which made him man of the hour overnight. But he wasn't an easygoing person either. People around him had few opportunities to see a smile on his face.
When Helen's bike bumped into his car, he witnessed the whole accident. While he was drinking coffee inside, a girl on a bike came into his sight.
A slim girl with black long hair hanging down her back to her waist, seemed full of energy and was cycling at a fast speed. However, she wore a white dress, which made her a lady. What a strange combination! He thought when seeing her.
He witnessed how the girl tried to avoid hitting the little boy and how she waited for the owner of the car.
"At least, she is a kind and honest girl." He thought.
So when he appeared in front of Helen, he kept quite calm and let her go without placing her in difficult position.
Holding Helen's note in the hand, Peter didn't think that he would call her and he thought a young student could hardly afford to pay for the scratch. However, he didn't throw it away. He put it into his pocket, instead. It was a kind of subconscious behavior, rather than an intentional act.
After Helen left, Peter got on his car with the two underlings, one starting the engine.
"So, boss, should we go back to the company or to the repair shop? "Asked the driver.
"To the repair shop directly." Peter said.
"So, boss, should I contact that girl for compensation?" The other man asked.
"Forget it. No need to do so." He looked out of the window and replied.
Both men were confused but they didn't dare to ask more about it. Peter was their boss and he was also an incomprehensible person.
