We sat in the car and I took out my phone from the purse. There were some messages from Jiya and Dad. I assured them that I am fine and we are heading to the airport to take the flight. " Anything serious? " I heard his voice and flinched. I shook my head and he nodded. I kept my phone back in the purse and started looking out of the window. I felt his gaze and turned my head towards him but he was looking at the other side. My palms were sweaty because of the nervousness. I looked at him to ask some questions but he was busy on his phone. I knocked on the window but he didn't listen. I looked to my right then left but found nothing which could attract his attention. I looked at my lap and my gaze fell on the bangles I was wearing. I bit my lower lip and started making a sound. I glared at him when he didn't look at me. What will make him distract his attention from that phone? I spread my hands at the front of his eyes and jingled the bangles. He looked at me while giving me a confusing look. " Where is the bride? " I heard the sound of my best friend which made me almost blush. It's my wedding and it's impossible to believe.
It's an arranged marriage and that's the reason I never saw the groom. I know his name. Gaurav......
" Here she is. " Jiya said while standing behind my chair and I smiled. I never thought that this day would be so early. I have finished my graduation and was enrolled in cooking classes. I don't know whether the groom's family will ever allow me to work.
I am dead nervous today and it's indescribable.
I bit my lower lip and looked up at her through the mirror.
" O my god. You look gorgeous. Gaurav won't be able to move his eyes. " Jiya said and that made me blush even more. I stood up from the chair and adjusted my lehnga.
I looked at her and sighed while looking at my lehnga.
" What happened? Is it too heavy" She asked and I nodded my head.
" It's okay. It will be worth it. " She said and I smiled. I saw my father entering the room. He smiled while looking at me and I smiled back.
" You look gorgeous, my daughter. " He kissed my forehead and we started walking towards the Hall.
I gasped when I entered the Hall. It was filled with numerous people. Many faces were unfamiliar. I could identify one, three or four members.
" Navi, take your steps forward. " My dad whispered and I followed. I took my steps towards the stage where the ceremony is going to be held. I saw a smart man standing in black tux. I blushed while looking at him. I may have never met him but I have seen his photograph. He is Gaurav.
He looked at me and his eyes widened. He smiled while looking at me and that encouraged me to walk further. As soon as I reached the stage he held my hand.
" You look beautiful. " He said and my friends started shouting while teasing me.
I nodded my head while blushing.
" Am I not looking handsome? " He questioned and I opened my mouth while shaking my head. I wanted to say a lot but it wasn't possible.
" Thank you for your unspoken compliment. " He said and I smiled while looking at the floor.
" Call my name once. " He whispered and my eyes widened. I looked at him bewildered. My lips parted and my breath heavily.
" Come on. Tell. " He said a little annoyedly and I stared at him. I looked at my friend and she nodded her head.
" Jiju, Navi can't speak. " She said and his eyes widened indicating the less knowledge he had about me.
" What! Do you mean she is mute? " He shouted, grabbing the attention of ladies and gentlemen present in the hall. Everyone stared at him as he looked irritated as well as annoyed.
He took his step back while running his hand over his hair.
" She is mute. " He said while looking at my father who looked at the floor.
" Mom, how can you find such a girl for me? " He shouted at his mother who was frowning. Tears welled up in my eyes. The chaos stopped and the hall was silent now. No one dared to speak anything further.
" I didn't know she is mute. " His mother lied and I stared at her in shock.
How can she lie so easily?
" I cannot marry a mute girl. " He said and started descending the stage.
" Son, wait... she " My dad went to stop him but he brushed his hands.
" Mr. Raheja, what do you think? You hid the truth from us." He yelled loudly and my father looked sad.
" Your mother was aware of it. " My father said and he lifted his palm indicating my father to stop.
" Enough now. I won't marry your mute girl. " He said and father started begging in front of him.
He said that no one will marry me if I am left unmarried in the hall. He was begging in front of them and that boiled my anger.
I paced towards my father and held his shoulder. He looked at me with his teary eyes.
I hugged him. I pulled away and wiped his tears.
" Keep your useless girl with you. No man will ever agree to marry a dumb like her. " He said and I stared at him.
" Stop it, Gaurav. It's enough already. " A man standing beside him said and he laughed.
" No Manay, this girl is just a piece of s***. Instead of keeping her in the house he should throw her to the garbage. " He said and I saw the anger visible in his friend's eyes.
" Gaurav, you do not have any right to insult her like that. It's not her fault that she is mute so stop blabbering. " He said .
" Who will marry her, now? Tell me... ha. Gaurav said while looking at me and I stood there unable to do anything.
" If you won't marry her then I will marry her. " He said and the chaos began again.
