Isabella's eyes discovered a guy who was laying near her, asleep, and her thoughts brought back to all the bizarre things that transpired last night. And it was hardly the worst. Guess what! He was my new boss Gabriel Remington. I was his new executive assistant. To top it, my former lover accused my boss that he raped me. What should I do? Trust my former lover who just dumped me? Or.. Trust my new boss who took my virginity?

Chapter 1 Morning sun

Isabella POV

Morning brightness is something I've always loved, what's not to like? It makes you feel cosy and at ease. That's the reason I choose to walk instead of driving to work. Anyhow, it just takes me fifteen minutes to walk from my house to the office.

It's my third year working for this firm. I work as the vice president of Remington Printing's executive assistant. One of the largest corporations in the world, Remington Industries, is home to several subsidiaries, including Remington Printing. Top 5 in the entertainment industry. Remington Production, the largest business of Remington Industries, creates films that are often successful at the box office.

Remington Media is another one of them. They have internet media now, but I still recall buying their magazine every time I was a teenager. Enough about Remington Industries, now. Since Remington Industries is so enormous, to be honest, I never find out how large it is. All I know is that Mr. Gabriel Remington, the CEO, is among the world's youngest billionaires. The last time I checked, my colleagues told me that Gabriel Remington had a $20 billion fortune. Oh my goodness, what will you do with that much cash? I don't directly know Gabriel Remington, though. I'm not a huge admirer of the things that billionaires own. I have no idea what his appearance is, hell. My coworkers think he's quite attractive. Perhaps they are prejudiced, then. That's not how God could have created a flawless man, is it?

Anyway, let's get back to my life (why are we discussing Gabriel Remington ?). I'm currently seated at my workstation. I'm restless. I received some exciting news yesterday from my employer, Denise Colton. He hasn't yet informed me. But maybe I'll get promoted so I can move to Los Angeles! The last time they asked, I turned them down since my mother was ill. However, I sent Mom to her final resting place last month. She had been battling cancer for a very long period. Though I'm relieved she may now rest in peace, I was heartbroken when she passed away. She is at least no longer in pain. And now that Alex is in Los Angeles, I have nothing keeping me in Oakwood Town. I informed HRD and Denise that I'm prepared to go.

My lover is Alex Mason. We've spent the last two years dating. We have the same objective, which makes him a decent man in my opinion. Our attention is on our career. He was my school's senior. one year my senior. Our relationship was straightforward up until a few months ago when he became quite busy at work. He used to see Oakwood once a month. to come see me and his family. However, it has been six months since his previous return, which was for Thanksgiving. He excused himself, saying he was too busy to attend. even my mother's death two months ago. He stated he was overworked when I requested him to be here for me.

I came to know that long-distance relationships are difficult. It's time for me to move because of this. To keep our friendship intact, I must act. Furthermore, I enjoy LA. In my youth, I resided in Los Angeles. However, that's another tale for another day. I just saw my boss, Den, get out of the elevator, so let's concentrate for the moment.

"Morning Denise!" I reply professionally but with a smile. Denise is an excellent manager. He is forty years old. When I just lost my mother, his wife Sophia was a huge assistance to me.

He says, "Morning Izzy!" and follows me directly to his office.

His morning ritual involves pouring a cup of coffee from his ostentatious machine, sitting on his chair, and opening his bag.

My heart raced inside my rib cage as I watched him. Den, hurry up! Tell me the news, please!

"Thus, "Yes!

"It's awful, Izzy, but I understand, you truly desire it," he groans and hands me a letter. "This is the letter promoting you. Best wishes, Isabella Montenegro!" He gives me a big smile.

"Oh my God! Den! I say, "Thank you," and unfold the letter.

I succeeded!

Indeed. Mr. Remington requires an executive assistant at headquarters. You'll report to Isabella, our CEO! Please make me proud."

"CEO?" I flinch. "As in Gabriel Remington ?"

"The one and only."

"Oh my God!" I can't even contain my enthusiasm anymore. "How... how come I got this position?" I can hear the trembling in my voice; it's a mixture of curiosity, excitement, and worry.

You are, after all, my finest executive assistant. I wrote you a letter with some pleasant words. Sarah gave me a call yesterday. Although she is extremely pregnant, she works as Gabriel's executive assistant. In two months, she will step down and devote herself full-time to raising her child. For Gabriel, she thus needs a new executive assistant. She enquired about you and concluded that you would do admirably."

"She is the one who decides it?"

Indeed. Remain calm. She has Gabriel's trust. They indicated that Gabriel would prefer to lose Sarah to half of his boss," Denise laughed.

I inhale deeply. "Denise, I'll make you happy! Yes, I will.

He gives a nod.

I'm making my way to Nancy's House of Bakery on foot. The proprietor, Nancy, bakes an excellent apple pie. Although I adore apple pie, cake is my very favourite dessert (yes, I am aware that's also my name). Nancy also makes a really tasty cake. Nearly as good as mom's, but not quite.

My dearest friend and mother are Nancy. Nancy took me under her wing after my mother passed away. She informed me she had grandchildren that are about my age, and she is in her 60s. I suppose she considered me to be one of her grandkids. She often inquires about how things in my life are doing. She's cranky sometimes, yet I still feel loved. I adore Nancy dearly. She is among the most kind individuals on the planet!

I unlocked the entrance of Nancy's House of Bakery. Now that I can smell the lovely scents, my mouth is starting to thirst.

"Hi, Nancy!"

"Isabella!" Nancy walks up to embrace me. She gives hugs. "You look happy today!"

Nancy could be my age, but her posture remains straight and she is in the best health possible. Although she has grey hair, her skin is just as smooth-if not smoother-than mine, I suppose.

I say, sparkling, "I am happy." I take her hands in mine. "I have news for you."

"What is it?" She is curious.

"I'm getting promoted," I stutter.

"Oh, my star!" She gives me another embrace. "I'm so happy for you! "Congratulations, my love!" she exclaims joyfully.

"Thank you..." And all of a sudden, I understood.

"What is it?" Nancy queries me. She's too familiar with me. I don't believe I have anything to conceal from her.

I bite my lip and add, "I... I got a promotion in LA... I will move to LA in a month."

"So?"

"Well, I can't see you as much as I would want to anymore. I miss your bakery and you." I make an effort not to cry. Since my mother passed away, I have become close to Nancy.

Nancy gives me another embrace. "Child, don't worry. I'll be alright. I travel to Los Angeles frequently; we can still meet up there or you may come visit me here."

"Will you promise to get in touch with me when you visit LA? Please set aside some time for me," I ask her in a childlike manner.

She comments, "Of course, Izzy," and strokes my hair. "And you, you promise me you will take good care of yourself in LA and promise me you will call me if anything happens to you," Motherly adds to me. My eyes are filled with tears.

Nancy blots my cheeks off the tears. I give her a strong hug and breathe in her scent-that of new soap-that reminds me of a mother. Whispering, "I'll miss you, Nancy,"

"I agree, my dear. But we can be reached via phone. Alright?" she asks quietly.

Abruptly, the doorbell rings, alerting us to a client inside the bakery.

Weeping, I say, "Welcome to Nancy's House of Bakery." I go about my everyday business like this. Work at Remington Printing before stopping by Nancy's House of Bakery to provide a hand.

Nancy once requested a salary from me, but I turned her down. I can have any cake or bread I choose in its place. Of course, she frequently prepares unique meals, particularly for me. I believe I will also miss her unique recipe.

And my employer Denise (shortly to be my ex-boss) is the new customer.

"Hi, Den!" It doesn't surprise me. Nancy is the customer of several Remington Printing employees. Nancy's House of Bakery is a hit with everybody.

"Hi, Izzy!" Denise says as he approaches the fridge. Cheesecake is his favourite food. And Denise exclusively purchases that item from this store.

That was my first week at Remington Printing. I should go here and get everything that's left in the store, Denise asked me. He paid back every charge, gave me some of the bread and cake, and gave the other employees some as well. He was unaware of my friendship with Nancy. He never asked me again when he found out.

I'm curious as to why, but I doubt Denise would elaborate.

"Your little daughter is going to L.A. Nancy, what are your thoughts?" I come out of my flashback when I hear Dad's voice.

Nancy replies with pride, "I'm sure she will shine in LA as well."

"I'm sure," Denise says with a smile. When his phone rings, he makes an excuse to answer it.

As I place Denise's cheesecake in the box, Nancy and I have a conversation. Denise reappears, grinning glumly. "Izzy, how long does it take for you to move to LA?"

I flinch. To be honest, I haven't considered what to do at this time. Sarah just gave me a call. She said that because she is already eight months pregnant, her doctor advised her not to work too much. The infant must be kept until the ninth month. The most delicate months are the seventh and eighth. I recall that Sophia had to stay bedridden for the entirety of her pregnancy when she was eight months along with George due to haemorrhage."

Even though I've heard this tale before, I still can't make the connection between Sarah and Sophia's bleeding. "So, Sarah is also bleeding?" I ask naively.

"Not at all. However, she was advised by the doctor not to overstress. Denise responds calmly, "We don't want to enter the bleeding phase.

"All right? Den, what do you need from me?

"Not me. But Sarah. Next week in LA, she needs you. Thus, you are down to just one week."

"What??" I give a little cry. Nancy rested her arm over my shoulder to comfort me. "But I haven't made any arrangements for my stay in LA."

This is a safe place for my house. We don't have a mortgage, and that belongs to me. And that's how I intend to leave it. Considering that I have no idea how LA will be. Having a house ready for you all the time is a fantastic thing. Denise, I need to locate an apartment. I haven't examined it.

"You will not live with your boyfriend?"

I notice Nancy wrinkles her nose; it's in my periphery. She doesn't think much of Alex. in particular at my mother's burial. I recall her asking, "What kind of boyfriend is he?" with a certain coldness. For the love of God, this is your mother's funeral.

"Denise, no. We don't operate at that level," I shrug.

Denise flinches. "I thought you were together for over 2 years?"

"In two years, next month. However, no. It just doesn't seem right." I certainly don't want to discuss my love life with my boss.

"All right. What if you were now searching for an apartment? And you may stay in the hotel and pay the office back if your apartment isn't ready by next week?"

Nancy responds, "Wonderful idea!" before I can say anything more. I can only nod in response. Right now, a lot is on my mind. I'm even unable to think coherently.

I'm moving out of Oakwood town and into the city of Angels, Los Angeles, in a week.
