On the day when our son had a high fever, my husband took his stepdaughter to Disneyland to watch the fireworks. He impatiently hung up my phone call, saying "It's just a little fever, can't you take care of it yourself?" I had no choice but to take my child to the hospital alone, but was killed by a mentally ill person with a knife at the entrance of the community. The police called him to come and identify my body, "Mr. Theo, please come to the public security bureau to identify your wife's identity." Theo sneered, "Emely, what kind of trick are you playing again! If you want me to come back this way, you're dreaming!" Later, he learned of my death and played the role of a loving husband in front of everyone. Until I discovered his true intentions.
Chapter 1
My soul floated in mid-air, watching the female police officer angrily hang up the phone. "What kind of person is this? His wife just died, and he doesn't even react! How cold-blooded can he be?"
The male officer beside her glanced at my corpse and sighed, "Maybe he just can't accept it right now."
I blinked and saw the kitchen knife beside me, its blade dulled from the repeated strikes. My soul seemed to still feel the excruciating pain from when the knife had struck my body.
From the moment my consciousness faded, I had opened my eyes again to find myself in this state of a wandering soul.
Theo's voice on the phone had left me feeling completely numb.
When I married Theo, everyone envied me for having such a good husband. People spoke highly of him.
But this loving marriage didn't last long before it shattered.
When I was nine months pregnant, I was supporting Theo, who had just returned from a work event, when I heard another woman's name from his lips.
That woman was Theo's first love-Valerie.
The reason he married me was because I bore a slight resemblance to Valerie.
That night, Theo kept calling her name.
But he still treated me well on the surface, pretending to be madly in love, as if that night had been just my imagination.
Until three months ago, when his first love returned.
He changed, started staying out late and coming home at odd hours, sometimes not coming home at all.
I often smelled another woman's perfume on him.
My soul drifted out of the police station, as if pulled by an invisible force. When I opened my eyes again, I found myself beside Theo.
I saw Valerie for the first time in person.
Previously, I had hired a private detective to investigate Valerie. From the photos, we looked somewhat similar, but seeing her in person, I realized we didn't look that much alike.
Valerie walked over. "Theo, did something happen to Emely? Maybe you should go back and check on her?"
Mentioning me, Theo frowned slightly. "What could happen to her? Yesterday she used our son's illness as an excuse to get me to come back, and today she has the police calling me, saying she's dead."
As he spoke, he let out a derisive laugh.
I quietly watched him, shocked at how worthless I was in his eyes.
I wasn't the type to cling. I had even suggested divorce, but Theo refused. I couldn't understand why.
If he had Valerie in his heart, divorcing me should have been his choice.
"Could something really have happened? Maybe you should go back and check," Valerie said softly.
Theo shook his head and sighed. "If only she were half as gentle and considerate as you."
I pressed my lips together, silently watching the two of them, a wave of bitterness and pain washed over me.
I never thought that even in death, my soul could still feel pain.
The piercing ring of a phone interrupted the moment. Theo answered it.
His expression changed immediately, and he grabbed his things.
Valerie turned over. "Theo, what's wrong?"
"Emely is in trouble!"
