On her wedding day, Khloe's sister connived with her groom, framing her for a crime she didn't commit. She was sentenced to three years in prison, where she endured much suffering. When Khloe was finally released, her evil sister used their mother to coerce Khloe into an indecent liaison with an elderly man. As fate would have it, Khloe crossed paths with Henrik, the dashing yet ruthless mobster who sought to alter the course of her life. Despite Henrik's cold exterior, he cherished Khloe like no other. He helped her take retribution from her tormentors and kept her from being bullied again.

Chapter 1 The Wedding

The wedding was a grand affair, every corner of the lavish venue brimming with guests dressed in their finest.

All eyes were on the radiant bride, Khloe Evans. As she walked down the aisle, her pristine white gown trailed elegantly behind her, each step filled with grace and poise.

Eric Watson, in a sharp-looking suit, stood waiting at the altar. As she approached, his gaze softened, admiration gleaming in his eyes.

In a cheerful tone, the officiant addressed the audience.

"Before they exchange rings, let's take a trip down memory lane and share a glimpse of the beautiful journey of our bride and groom!"

At that, the lights dimmed, and a video began to play on the big screen at the front of the banquet hall. The guests fell silent, expecting to see moments of Khloe and Eric together.

But within seconds, curious whispers rippled through the crowd as the screen showed not sweet memories, but surveillance footage.

In the footage, Khloe shoved her stepmother, Lorraine Evans, down the stairs. The latter tumbled down the steps, her body landing with a sickening thud, blood oozing from her head.

The audience gasped in horror.

Joshua Evans, Khloe's father, went pale, a storm of shock and anger twisting across his face.

Khloe stood frozen in place, her heart pounding in her chest.

She couldn't believe what she was seeing.

She had never touched Lorraine. Obviously, she was being set up.

Suddenly, a gigantic balloon above burst open with a loud pop, releasing a cascade of photos, fluttering down like confetti.

They were scandalous pictures of Khloe, caught in compromising embraces with different men.

"Bitch! How dare you betray me?" Eric's face contorted with rage. His hand came down in a sudden slap, sending her reeling, a burning red mark blooming on her cheek.

Khloe shook her head frantically, her eyes welling with tears that trickled down like glistening pearls.

"Eric, please! I didn't do any of this. You have to believe me!" she cried, her voice trembling with desperation.

For the slightest moment, the anger in Eric's gaze wavered, doubt flickering across his eyes.

Just then, Khloe's stepsister, Sloane Evans, stepped forward, her expression painted with a false sympathy. "Khloe, maybe it's best if you apologize to Eric and my mom. I'm sure they'll forgive you."

A chorus of disapproving murmurs rose around them, cutting through the air.

"She hasn't even married into the Watson family yet, and she's already brought shame on them!"

"I heard her mother was kicked out of the Evans family for having an affair; I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

The biting remarks stung Khloe, but Eric's skeptical stare truly pierced her heart.

Swallowing the pain, she steadied herself and raised her tear-filled eyes towards her husband-to-be, reaching for his hand. "Eric, please, You have to believe me. This is all a setup. I promise I'll explain..."

But she was abruptly cut off by a sudden, loud bang. The doors were kicked open, and a team of police officers flooded in, surrounding Khloe.

"Khloe Evans, you are under arrest for bribery, academic fraud, and attempted murder."

Eric's expression hardened, disgust written all over his features as he glared at the woman he had come so close to marrying.

"You make me sick! Falling in love with you was the worst mistake of my life," he spat, shoving her hand away with a venomous look. "Get out of my sight!"

Khloe staggered backward, her heels slipping on the edge of the altar. She fell, her body crumpling like a discarded doll, and landed with a sickening thud on the cold, unforgiving floor below.

Pain surged through her, and as blood began to pool around her, the world faded to black.

...

Three years passed.

A prison officer called out, "Khloe Evans, someone's posted your bail. You're free to go."

Khloe lifted her head, barely believing her ears.

After three long years of isolation and relentless torment, freedom felt like an illusion.

An hour later, she found herself at a hospital.

Led down a stark hallway, she stopped outside a room and saw her mother lying in the ICU, pale and nearly lifeless, entangled in tubes and machines that breathed for her.

"Mom," Khloe whispered, her voice breaking as she reached for the door handle.

"Don't even think about it! No one can enter without my permission," a woman said coldly.

"Sloane? I should've known you were behind this! I don't get it. My mother severed ties with the Evans family long ago. Why do you still insist on tormenting her?" Khloe hissed, her voice dripping with resentment as she glared at Sloane.

Sloane returned her look with a slight smirk, eyes flashing with a mix of envy and contempt. She laughed, the sound laced with mockery. "Khloe, you have it all wrong. I'm saving her. Without me, your dear mother would already be dead, and you'd have come out of prison just in time to attend her funeral."

Khloe's anger simmered down into distrust. "Cut the act. You're no savior. You're obviously just trying to use me."

"Ah, Khloe, still sharp as ever. You were once the rising star of your university. Now? You're nothing more than a convict at my mercy," Sloane sneered, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Tonight, if you spend just one night with Karl Russell, I'll arrange for your release and your mother's treatment."

"Karl Russell? That old man in his sixties? Are you insane?" Khloe couldn't help but raise her voice, plagued with disgust and disbelief.

Sloane's smile didn't waver. "So what? It's not my night with him; it's yours. If you do as I say, the Russell family's arms contract will be ours. A cooperation like this is worth more than anything you could ever pay. More importantly, if you refuse..."

Sloane pointed to the ICU door. "I'll have them pull your mother's life support right now. She'll die before your eyes. You have five seconds to decide. Five, four, three-"

"Fine!" Khloe agreed in despair as tears began to spill down her cheeks.

For the sake of her mother, she had no other choice.

After she'd been given a fresh change of clothes, Khloe was led to a waiting car.

She was doomed to spend the night with a sixty-something, disgustingly obese man.

And it was her first time, no less.
