The scorching sun beat down, shimmering waves of heat rising from the asphalt. Sweat tricked down my face as I took the cupcakes out of the oven.

Pursing my lips,I reached the cupboard and there was nothing to use to package the cupcakes beautifully for my baby Lily.

Sighing. I pinched my nose, feeling frustrated as I searched all around the kitchen but still found nothing.

I guess I'll have to get ribbons at the store before heading to the baking store I work and also get some nice candies for her.

Lily wasn't my daughter but I loved her dearly like I would to my own.

She always came to the baking restaurant I work to get her favorite red velvet cupcakes and since then we became really close that even some people mistook her as my daughter because of how close we are for about a year now.

Sadly Lily doesn't have a mum but she always talked about her dad who she always praised as the best dad in the world.

Even without never meeting her dad,I knew he was a very good father to her and I always admired their strong relationship.

I always wanted a good dad but instead I got a beast who always made my life a living hell.

Quickly yanking my purse and the box of cupcakes,I took off out of the house making sure to lock the door behind me gently.

Striding down the street,I rounded the corner and reached the store and got the necessary items for Lily before heading towards the baking restaurant.

I finally got to my destination and found Beth the caretaker and also a friend of mine just opening the see-through glass door.

I sighed in relief. Thank goodness I came before the owner arrived cuz he doesn't tolerate lateness and always finds fault in everything I do.

"Good morning Beth"I said with a smile.

"Morning Nora, how was your night?"She asked, giving me one of her dazzling smiles.

Bad as always,I don't ever get a good sleep without having nightmares.

"It was great,Thank you"I replied with a small smile and got in greeting every workers I crossed paths with before I went to change to my working uniform.

As I walked out of the changing room and already found customers sitting waiting for their order and I kept the cupcakes in a safe spot before going over to one customer.

Time to work.

"Good morning, what can I get you?"I politely said, taking out my note and pen.

"Can I get cinnamon rolls with a bottle of strawberry smoothie please?"

I wrote that down and moved towards the next one and that was how I took the customers orders till around three at noon before I took a ten minutes break.

I was gulping down a whole bottle of water when two massive guards walked into the restaurant with small Lily holding a cute backpack and a big smile formed on my face.

"Nora"she beamed and hugged me tightly.

I always felt full and fulfilled whenever she's around me, she brings me joy.

"How's my baby Lily doing?"I asked as I kissed the crown of her hair, holding her close to me.

"Am happy Nora after seeing your beautiful face"She kept kissing my face beaming with smiles and I giggled smiling also.

"And how was your math test?"I asked.

She opened her backpack excitedly and took out a note before handing it over to me.

I looked through it carefully and couldn't stop the big smile that formed on my face after seeing her excellent results.

"Am proud of you baby"I kissed her cheeks softly.

She giggled.

"Your dad will be so proud of you"I said and she frowned sadly.

Why did she suddenly turn sad?.

"Are you okay Lily? Why the sad face all of a sudden?"I asked softly and she sniffed,her eyes welling up in tears.

Oh no. I don't like seeing her like this.

"Daddy is getting married soon"she said as tears streamed down her face.

My heart broke in pieces seeing her crying like this but why doesn't she look happy.

"You should be happy baby after all you're going to have a new mummy"I said trying to cheer her back up.

She shaked her head immediately.

"I don't want her Nora, I want you to be my new mummy"

My eyes went wide hearing her words. She probably wants me to be her mom because she's attached to me and she wants to be close to me which she had said to me a few times in the past.

But I can't marry her dad because of that...I mean I haven't even met the man and I also want to get married to the one I love.

Besides he's a billionaire and am a struggling lady with no class...The difference between us is so long and it will never work.

I smiled wiping her tears with her pink napkin.

"Look Lily, Life doesn't work like that. Maybe you should give the lady a chance,who knows she might even love you more than I do"

Not waiting for her to say something in return, I took out the pack of cupcakes and gave it to her.

"Cupcakes,I love your cupcakes"Her eyes lit up in happiness.

"Nora,Boss wants you in the office"Beth shouted and I sighed sadly not waiting to leave Lily so soon.

I only get to see her twice a week and now it'll be next week before I see her again.

"I have to get back to work Lily,you should go home"

"I'll miss you"she said hugging me tightly.

"I'll miss you more and I have my number on your book. Call me Okay"

"I definitely will"she replied and I smiled.
