Eva's Point Of View

The click-clack sound of the heels grew nearer, with my heels striking the floor with such force that they grew louder as I walked to the control room.
All heads turned in my direction.
"Hi Eva"
"Good evening Eva"
"Welcome back Eva"
"Congratulations Eva"
"How was the mission, I heard he almost got away"
So many congratulations, but I had my eyes on a door, the door of my mother's office.
Knocking on the door, I was as excited as a little kid who was given her favorite candy.
"Come in Shadow Huntress," a voice said.
Rolling my eyes, I opened the door, "Do not call me shadow huntress mum, it makes me feel weird".
"But you are the Shadow huntress, my daughter, you just took down the World's biggest con artist, and that too in under two weeks, you have earned the title my dear" Emily, my mother said kissing my cheeks.

"You have made me proud my dear" she added as she handed me a glass of red wine.
"Cheers to one more win, for you, me, and most importantly for Sentinel," she said as she raised her glass.
"Cheers, " I said and took a sip.

"So Mum, can I go on that vacation now?" I asked, hoping she would say yes.
"Villains never go on vacations my dear," she said giggling.
"Common mum, we are not villains, we are the good guys mum, I earned it, please mum" Using my puppy eyes I hoped it would melt my mum.

"Stop using the puppy eyes, your foxy eyes suit you better" Bopping my nose, Mum smiled widely.
"There is a newbie on the block, her name is Mira, you need to show her around, show her how things work around here " Mum instructed.
"Common Mum, I just came back from a dangerous mission and now you want me to show a newbie around? You know how newbies are, they get annoying and right now, I am cranky" I whined.
"Maybe we can talk about the vacation later," Mum said as she pocketed her car key.
" Fine, I will do it but only because of my vacation"

"That's my Eva, I have a meeting I should be back home before midnight," Mum said as she left.
"Let's get this over with it" I grunted as I left the office.

"Hi I am Mira, I have heard so much about you Shadow Huntress, I am your biggest fan," The teenage girl in front of me said, all in one breath.

"You should be a rapper instead of a spy," I said, giggling at her cuteness.
"I am sorry, but I can not help it, I talk so fast" Mira defended herself.
"It's okay, so why do you want to be a spy " I asked, my eyes scanning the file in my hand.
" I lost both my parents in a car crash, and my elder sister was raped last week," she said, I could feel her anger rising.
Good, this is good.
"You made up your mind to become a spy, so you can get revenge on your parents' murderer and sister's rapist," I asked her, knowing her answer would determine if I would accept her as my personal student.
"I want to become a spy so I can help the great Sentinel hunt down dangerous criminals and make sure justice is served" she answered, making me smile.
Extending my arm for a handshake," Welcome to the Sentinel, I hope we have a great time working together".
"Thank you, Shadow Huntress," Mira said and bowed.
"Sentinel is a top-secret organization that works hand in hand with the government to track down and arrest criminals who managed to slip from the hands of the cops, and who are such criminals?" I asked, looking at her.
"Very influential and wealthy people, ranging from billionaires, millionaires, and Mafia gods" Mira answered.
"Sentinel's aim and objective is very simple, hunt down all criminals and make the world a better place.
We have a famous saying around here, one criminal in jail equals one step closer to a peaceful world
Wherever you find yourself and there is a villain in sight, you are to immediately spring into action, and your plans must be logical and foolproof. There is no room for mistakes, slip-ups, and failure.
Remember to never, attack first, we are the good guys, we do not hit first" I enlightened the teenage girl walking with me.

"Very good, sometimes our line of work may require us to change our identities, adopting a new one depending on the mission. This is why you should never reveal your real identity to anyone, be it a friend or a foe" I continued
"Yes ma'am" the teenage girl who was paying rapt attention to whatever I said answered.
"Not only our identities should be kept a secret, Sentinel's existence must not be revealed to anyone, no matter the pain or torture inflicted on one.
Here at Sentinel, we do not have the day off, so be ready at all times to be called to duty.
"And remember at Sentinel, we follow the brain and not the heart, why? Cause the brain can never be broken" I said as I sat in my car.
Turning on the ignition my car roared to life.
"Have a good night's rest, Mira"
"Thank you so much Shadow Huntress, I promise to abide by your rules and make Sentinel proud," the teenage girl said, her voice full of excitement.

"Go back inside, it is not safe out here and I do not think you are armed" I instructed, sitting in my car till I ensured she was safely in the building.
"I felt her pain, I also lost both my parents at a young age. Found by Emily, the founder of Sentinel, I was given another chance to live, she adopted me as her own and gave me everything I ever needed." I smiled as I thought of all I had been through, my ups and my downs.
The sound of my ringtone brought me back to earth.
"Hello Mum, all good?" I asked as soon I picked up the call.
"There is a new mission for you, I will email everything you need to know," Emily said and hung up the phone.
Going through the mail I just received, I had a smirk on my face.
"This should be easy, look forward to meeting you soon, my billionaire prey"
