Edlyn Shaw built her entire world around Davis Smith. For ten years, he was her home, her future, her every breath-until the day she discovered the devastating truth. Betrayed and broken, she saw no way forward, no reason to keep existing in a life that had crumbled beneath her feet. But fate had other plans. Rescued from the brink, Edlyn wakes up in the apartment of Desmond Hayes-a sharp-tongued, brutally honest stranger who seems to have no patience for her heartbreak. Unlike everyone else, he doesn't pity her. He doesn't sugarcoat the truth. And he certainly doesn't let her wallow in self-destruction. As the world outside erupts with speculation over her cryptic farewell post, Davis fights to reclaim the woman he thought would always be his. But Edlyn isn't the same girl who once believed in happily ever after. With Desmond forcing her to confront the painful truths she's spent years avoiding, she faces a choice-remain the woman defined by her love for Davis or finally become someone of her own.
"Ma'am, do you think you can forgive cheating?"
Forgive cheating... hmmm... no one has ever asked her that question before.
Edlyn looked at the hostess and didn't know how to answer. She took a deep breath in with a racing mind, she twisted her arm nervously, an habit she can't help before trying to answer, after what seemed like forever.
"Miss Edlyn Shaw, I'm still waiting for your answer, ma'am." The hostess interrupted her thought before she could even open her mouth.
'Politely rude' Edlyn murmured in between breath, then she began "Actually, darling, I don't know." She uttered and looked at a curious audience who were surprised when she said "I don't know." How did she know? Their expression obviously said it.
Then she continued: "Can I forgive cheating?" She asked herself while pointing to chest? "The answer is a no and a yes...
"hm... ma'am, I'm surprised. Edlyn Shaw always has an answer to everything." She said smiling, but Edlyn knows within those smiles, she is just trying to be sarcastic and to present her in a bad way.
'Am I some god or what?' Edlyn thought to herself, having an answer to everything is really an impossible thing. Yes, she has tendency of having answers to some question because she always answer from what she believes and think. This hostess sure knows how to be polite and rude by trying to make her out be a bad person, but she has no idea that she very good at dealing with people like her. But the problem was she doesn't have time for all this, she needs to surprise him before midnight.
Edlyn took a deep breath in to concentrate, he can wait.
At least for now
"Do I have an answer to everything? No, darling, I sure don't. I'm not a God, I am just a chef and a writer, and I have the tendency of answering the question that suits my morals view, and ethics. And I know my point of view is very different from others, I'm aware that my answers sometimes do make the general public look at me in some certain way. But I know I'm weird and I'm different, and being different is okay.
So, back to your question, do I think I can forgive cheating? No, and yes. In the sense that a situation that I've not been in, I don't think I'm capable of forgiving it. And it's because I've never felt or rather been in a situation where someone I care about cheated on me,such as my partner cheated on me. Me saying yes, that I'm capable of forgiving it, will make me a hypocrite. And me saying no, that I'm incapable of forgiving, will also make me a hypocrite as well. Because seriously, I've not been in that situation.
But do I think I'm capable of forgiving? Yes. But will I forget? Never. I don't think I will ever forget. I can forgive cheating, but I can never forget cheating. And in a relationship, you cannot forget certain situations. You can forgive your partner, but the trust is broken. And when trust is broken, the relationship is good as gone. So, it's kind of cliché to say I'm capable of forgiving."
The hostess smiled, Edlyn Shawn sure knows her ways with words.
"So ma'am.......
"Can you please darling round up this interview" Edlyn interrupted her "it was supposed to be an hour interview and it literally over an hour as it is."
"Of course ma'am, you have already answered all the necessary questions, ladies and gentlemen and that is a glance into Edlyn Shawn's life everyone" she said and the audience all stood up and started clapping.
Edlyn made a bow gesture and stood up almost running towards the back stage.
"Boss, be careful or you will fall." Edlyn, turn and smile at her assistant,
"I can't help it, I really need to see him, I've not seen him in a month. I hope you make sure that nobody knew, none of his assistants or his workers knew about it, I believe?
Kiki smiled and responded "ma'am. I make sure it's secretive, even the interview, since it's not going to be released until tomorrow, so yeah. It's this secretive"
"good." Edlyn face became dreamy imagining his expression'priceless' Hmmmm, "I can't wait to see his expression, I bet he will be so surprised when he sees me."
Kiki looked at her boss and kept quiet, she is a 'gone woman' when it comes to her man, she always loses her rational, she sooo in love with him.
"You must be really happy?" Kiki asked the obvious.
"Come on, I've not seen him in a month, obviously I'm happy. Edlyn said while wiping her makeup and grabbed her bag at the same time and walk towards her car, when she got to her car one of her bodyguards already opened the door and she got in.
The driver drove straight to the penthouse. When she saw the penthouse from a distance, her faced literally lit up.
The moment she got down she turned to Kiki and waved "off you go~ see your~
"Are sure you don't need me around" Kiki teased
"Need you for what? girl I got me and I'm certainly my boo got me as well." She turned and left
"Do you know you are hopeless boss" Kiki yelled and smiled but Edlyn didn't bother responding she was long gone.
Edlyn was not just Kiki boss, she was literally her best friend and Edlyn happiness makes her genuinely happy.
--
Edlyn hummed softly to herself as she stepped out of the elevator and into the private hallway leading to the penthouse. A giddy anticipation curled in her stomach as she punched in the familiar code on the keypad. Tonight was going to be perfect.
She had planned everything down to the last detail-the surprise, the expression on Davis's face when he sees her standing there after a month apart, the way he would pull her into his arms, murmuring about how much he missed her. She had envisioned the warmth of his embrace, the way he would bury his face in her hair, inhaling her scent like he always did.
The lock beeped softly, and the door slid open.
She stepped inside, her heels clicking against the marble floor, but almost immediately, she froze.
Something felt... off.
The air was thick, heavy with the scent of red wine and something else. Something intimate.
Her brows furrowed as she turned her head toward the sleek glass table by the lounge area. A single bottle of wine sat half-empty, two glasses beside it. Her chest tightened.
Her gaze flickered toward the dimly lit hallway leading to the bedroom. A distant sound-a muffled moan.
The small flutter of unease in her stomach hardened into a sharp, twisting pain. No.
Her pulse pounded in her ears as she took slow, cautious steps forward. Her heart begged her to stop, to turn around and leave, but her feet refused to listen. She had to see.
The door to the bedroom was slightly ajar, enough for her to push it open with trembling fingers.
And then...
Her world shattered.
There, under the soft glow of the bedside lamp, was Davis. Her Dee. The man she loved, the man she had given her heart to humphing another woman.
His broad back flexed with every movement, his fingers gripping the sheets, his lips pressed against the skin that wasn't hers.
Edlyn's breath hitched, her throat clenching so tightly she thought she might choke. Fresh, burning tears welled up and spilled down her cheeks, but she couldn't move.
She stayed. She watched.
Not because she wanted to torture herself, but because she needed to understand.
What was different?
What did this woman have that she didn't?
Did he touch her the same way? Did he whisper the same words?
The woman beneath him arched her back, a breathy moan slipping past her lips.
And that was it.
A sharp sob tore from Edlyn's throat, ripping through the silence.
Davis froze.
The woman's head whipped around, but Edlyn didn't stay long enough to see her face. Her body moved before her mind caught up, turning on its heel and running.
Her vision blurred as she sprinted through the living room, her heel catching on the rug, nearly sending her tumbling. She slammed her palm against the keypad by the front door, her shaking fingers breaking the password input before yanking the door open and bolting.
Behind her, she heard Davis's frantic voice.
"Edlyn! Wait-baby, wait!"
No.
She couldn't wait.
She couldn't breathe.
The walls of the penthouse seemed to close in on her as she ran toward the elevator, slamming her fists against the button, but it was too slow. Too damn slow.
Without thinking, she turned and dashed toward the stairwell.
Up.
Up.
Up.
Her feet pounded against the concrete steps, her lungs burning, but she couldn't stop.
Couldn't think.

Elodie took a deep breath and knocked, the sound echoing in the quiet corridor. A moment of silence passed, broken only by the pounding of her heart. Finally, the door snicked open, revealing a surprised Dashiell. 'Can't you see the Do Not Disturb sign? We don't want-' His initial frown quickly morphed into confusion at the sight of his wife. 'What are you doing here?' he demanded. 'Your girlfriend invited me,' Elodie replied, her voice laced with icy calm. She tried to peer past him, but his broad frame blocked the view. A saccharine voice chimed in from within the room. 'Elodie? Oh dear, we didn't mean for you to find out this way. It's just that-' Elodie cut her short. 'Oh please, Selene. Spare me the fake apologies. You wouldn't have sent me all those texts if you didn't want me to know.' Dashiell shifted uncomfortably, his face a mask of annoyance. 'What texts?' Elodie stepped past him, taking in the luxurious suite with a sardonic smile.
