Chapter 1 Betrayal.

Mirabelle laid on the hospital bed, looking frail and tired. She had been on the bed for two weeks now, withering away slowly into the cold hand of death.

She has just a few hours before she'll meet her creator as the doctor claimed because she was diagnosed with Cancer– pancreatic cancer, stage IV.

Tears streamed down her eyes not because she had an idea she's going to die soon but that she's going to die a lonely death without her husband, Jonathan Hales beside her.

Weakly, she picked up her phone beside her on the bed and dialed his number. The Same number he had called a million times in two weeks. It rang yet no one picked up.

Her heart ached badly and more tears streamed down from her eyes. Heartbrokenly, the phone slipped away from her hand and crashed to the floor.

Jonathan and Mirabelle had been married for 5 solid years. Mirabelle thought their relationship was built on love and trust but she was wrong. She never knew her husband is a selfish devil who only wants to see her ruined.

The door of the ward creaked open. Mirabelle's heart leaped with expectations as he expected Jonathan to rush in and meet her but she was disappointed when he saw Dr. Adams entering the ward. He had been the one taking care of her for the past two weeks.

"How are you feeling Mrs. Hales?" The doctor asked with a smiling face.

Mirabelle smiled bitterly. "Worst than ever Doc." She struggled to utter, her voice barely up to whispers.

Dr. Adams nodded and the expression on his face suddenly shifted to a sour one as he retrieved a paper.

"Mr. Hales. There is something I need to let you know. We conducted a test and.."

Miraballe was already beaming with smiles that she quickly interrupted the doctor. "...and I'm fine?!!" She cut the doctor off, meeting his gaze.

Dr. Henry swallowed, feeling the weight of what he's about to reveal pressing on him.

"You're..you're.." His voice trailed.

Mirabelle's brow drew backwards with curiosity glinting in her eyes as she fixed her gaze on the doctor.

"..You're pregnant Mrs. Hales." The doctor dropped the news which sounded like an atomic bomb in her ear, shaking her whole body to the core as if a volcano had just erupted within her.

For some moments, Mirabelle couldn't speak. The news seemed to cut off her vocal cord yet words overflowed in her mind which she wanted to utter but her lips merely trembled like one beaten by the harsh hand of cold.

"Preg..nant?" She repeated strangely with a trembling voice as if the word is a taboo.

Dr. Henry simply nodded.

Fresh tears slipped her eyes and mixed with the mucus popping out of her nose. Her heart was tearing apart at the moment. It was good news coming at a bad time.

Henry had always wanted a baby. He had always wanted to be a father. Why would this happen when she has less than 2 hrs to live.

Slowly, she rubbed her trembling hand on her belly.

"You need to save my baby doctor. Please.." Mirabelle cried.

Dr. Henry gulped hard. He felt the weight of the pain she was fighting to bear but unfortunately he couldn't do much at the moment to help her.

"It's complicated, Mrs. Hales. There is not enough time to carry out a CS. The baby won't survive it...and your life will be at risk..."

"Risk!!? My life is already at risk, Doctor!" She raised her voice, the tears falling from her eyes freely. "Just save my baby! Please doctor.. please." Her voice trailed into a sob.

Dr. Henry didn't know what to do. He had the burning desire to help her but the higher authorities in the hospital had to tell him not to commence any treatment on her if only her husband showed up to sign the informed consent form that any threats that happened during her treatment would not be incurred on the hospital.

"I wish to help Mrs. Hales but your husband needs to be here to sign the Informed consent form. Otherwise, nothing would be done." Dr. Henry revealed bitterly.

"I need to see my husband..I need to see Jonathan." Mirabelle said and struggled down from the bed, nurturing the pain she's feeling all over her body.

"Mr. Hale...you can't leave the hospital in this state..."

"And I can't die just like that in this state too..I need to see Jonathan even if it'll be the last thing I do." She said as her feet touched the marble floor.

Just after taking a step, she fell down, her butt hit the marble floor "Ahh.." She winced out painfully.

Dr. Henry rushed to her. "Are you okay ma'am?" He held her arms and gently pulled her up.

"I'm.. fine..I'm fine.." She choked out.

In the hospital attire, Mirabelle left the hospital and took a taxi which drove straight to her house- where she lives with her husband, Jonathan

She was the one who built the house and made Jonathan the owner. Even all the documents of her companies had been written in the name of Jonathan.

Stepping into the house, Jonathan was nowhere to be found but Mirabelle found two glasses of half drunk wine on the glass table in the living room and the Tv was left on.

Henry is drinking while she's dying in the hospital. Was this why he refused to pick my call?

Nonetheless, Mirabelle sauntered to their bedroom, her mind racing with the expectation of seeing her husband.

Seeing him would make her feel better but getting to the door of the bedroom, she halted. Her heart skipped a beat regarding a sound she just heard. It sounded like gibberish.

"Ahh..ohh.. you're killing me baby..go deep..ahh.."

Mirabelle didn't want to believe what she was hearing. Has she developed another symptom? She thought.

Slowly, with her heart pounding in her ear, she reached out to the door knob and twisted it open. The door creaked out faintly as it gave way revealing to her the shock of her life.
