Kora stood frozen, staring at the hand being raised towards her. She tried to move but her body refused to oblige to her pleadings, sweats broke out on her skin as she tried to fight the anxiety kicking in. "Mr. Wilton, I'll suggest you put down your hand. If you do not want me to chop them off." Dante muttered walking into the circle of people with a grim expression. He pulled Kora into his embrace, feeling her shake from the panic. "Ouch! Helpppp, somebody please help me.." She yelled out loud, her voice barely reaching anywhere due to her weakness "Somebody please help, my baby, anybody please help.."
Blood pooled underneath her legs, flowing freely on the ground, her head was covered in bruises. In less than a minute, her vision began to blur. Tears spilled out from her eyes, her gaze darkened as she drifted into unconsciousness with her continuously mouthing, "help, please save my baby. Please..."
................
"Quickly take her to the Operation Theater, she has lost so much blood. Bring in the O+ blood into the OT, bring in the sterile too."
The hallway was chaotic, the nurses rolled the stroller with speed into the Operation Theater. A nurse blocked the way immediately the stretcher was inside the OT, "Sorry sir, you can not go further. Please stay outside."
Derrick stopped his expression filled with panic as he tried to see inside the theater but the nurse blocked his gaze. "Please save the baby, please nurse save the baby." Derrick muttered biting his lips.
The nurse frowned, anyone would hope for the woman to be saved right now but here was the husband praying for the baby to be saved. "We will try our best sir, no please move back."
The nurse walked into the theater and shut the door closed, she shook her head before proceeding to assist the others.
The red lights turned on with a snap, Derrick paced from one of the doors to the other end, he sat down, stood up, walked around and at last he sat down when he could no longer wait anymore.
How many hours has it been? Two? Three? He had lost track of the time, what was taking them so long? How many hours do doctors do surgery anyway? He was tired and anxious.
Resting his head on his hand, he closed his eyes to take a nap.
A group of people rushed into the hospital exactly three hours later, they inquired at the receptionist for a few minutes and then rushed down the hallway they were pointed to.
"Derrick? Derrick?"
Derrick woke up with a jolt at the hand placed on his shoulders, he looked up and met with his mother's gaze. "Mum, you are here."
Clara pulled her son into a hug, "Oh my dear child, I'm so sorry for coming late. The flight took time and we could not make it early. How is the baby? Has the doctor given any news?" Clara inquired.
Derrick held his mother tight, "no mum, nothing has been said just yet. It's been hours already."
"Everything is going to be fine son, you do not have to worry. Just take in a deep breath." Clara remarked, patting his back.
Behind them stood Derrick's parents-in-law, sister-in-law(Amelia), and Derrick's father.
"Mum, will my sister be alright? Will the baby be alright too?" Amelia questioned looking aggrieved and sad, she looked towards the OT with sadness in her eyes.
"Your sister will be fine dear, she is a strong woman."
Soon after, the OT opened and everyone rushed towards the door. A female doctor walked out of the OT with a passive expression on her face, she looked towards the family who looked at her expectantly.
"Doctor, is everything okay?"
"Is she fine?"
"Is the baby okay?"
"How is the baby Doctor?"
"Tell me everything is fine doctor..."
"Everyone please calm down!" The doctor remarked feeling overwhelmed with the questions, she stepped sideways in an attempt to breath in fresh air and calm her nerves. After hours of staying in the OT, she was tired and this was not making it any better.
Everyone shut their mouths immediately, but their gaze did not leave the doctor. "Who is the patient's husband?" She asked and Derrick stepped forward.
"Mr. Derrick, we have both good and bad news for you. Which would you like to hear first?"
Derrick looked at his mother, anxious and confused, "give us the bad news first doctor.." Clara said on her son's behalf, "I am the patient's mother in law."
The nurse who had locked Derrick outside the OT before, walked out and stood behind the doctor with her gaze pinned on Derrick.
"The bad news is, we tried our very best sir and ma'am, to save the mother and child but we could not save the two of them. We could only save one."
"Which one did you save?"
"Is the baby safe? Is the baby okay?" Derrick asked, hoping deeply in his heart that the baby was saved.
"The good news is that we managed to save the mother. The child could not make it while we were saving the mother, so the baby died. We are sorry for your loss." The doctor muttered with her head bowed.
"The mother is safe and out of danger, she will be moved to the ward soon and you will be able to see her. Thank you." She muttered and walked out of there.
Derrick felt his world crashing in on him, his baby was not alive, his child was dead, his child could not make it. He had planned so many things for his baby, he had prepared a nursery for his child too but yet his child was dead. How? Why? Why?
Why didn't she die in the child's place? Why was God so cruel to him? Taking his baby away?
"Mum, the doctor must be lying right? The baby is perfectly fine right?" Derrick choked out on the verge of tears, his eyes pained, he shook his mother demanding for an answer.
Clara shook her head with tears in her eyes, "my son, please pull yourself together. Pleasee" she pulled him into a hug patting his back to console him.
"Why didn't that awful woman die in the baby's place? Why is she alive mum? She must have told the doctor's to kill the baby on purpose mum!"
"She is getting revenge for the previous week mum, she doesn't want to see me happy mum, she is a terrible woman mum, a witch.." Derrick muttered with disdain, his eyes filled with hatred and disgust with a mix of sadness for the child he lost.
The Child was his ticket to owning the CEO's seat in his family's company, his hope was lost and gone.

Elodie took a deep breath and knocked, the sound echoing in the quiet corridor. A moment of silence passed, broken only by the pounding of her heart. Finally, the door snicked open, revealing a surprised Dashiell. 'Can't you see the Do Not Disturb sign? We don't want-' His initial frown quickly morphed into confusion at the sight of his wife. 'What are you doing here?' he demanded. 'Your girlfriend invited me,' Elodie replied, her voice laced with icy calm. She tried to peer past him, but his broad frame blocked the view. A saccharine voice chimed in from within the room. 'Elodie? Oh dear, we didn't mean for you to find out this way. It's just that-' Elodie cut her short. 'Oh please, Selene. Spare me the fake apologies. You wouldn't have sent me all those texts if you didn't want me to know.' Dashiell shifted uncomfortably, his face a mask of annoyance. 'What texts?' Elodie stepped past him, taking in the luxurious suite with a sardonic smile.
