Jane had only four months to live, and in her desperation, she cursed the world. Her wish awakened Kael, the great sage who had slept for a thousand years. Now bound by a death contract, she was thrust into a realm of deities , demons, and ancient dragons. But as love takes root and darkness stirs, Jane's fate begins to change. The contract was meant to end in death, so why does it feel like the beginning of something far more dangerous?

Chapter 1 The return of misfortune

"The one imprisoned, and bound by chains for a thousand years shall awaken and fate will move once more"

"The mortal girl will find hope soon, in the form of despair."

"The beginning of the end is near."

voices from heavens whispered far beyond the sky, they were watching.

Far below, beneath the stormy sky, Jane was falling apart.

"It's brain cancer, Miss Jane."

"With surgery, you might live a year. Without it... four to five months at most."

The doctor's words lingered in her mind like a cruel joke, she was so lost in her thoughts

She walked under the heavy rain and her feet were moving on their own.

She didn't know where she was going, She didn't care.

The world felt unreal. Like she had already died, and no one had told her yet.

"Why was I even born if I was meant to die like this? I haven't even lived my life to the fullest, what about the things I'm yet to do?

How will my mom cope without me?"

She clenched her fists and her nails were digging into her palms in a painful manner but she didn't care.

The cold rain couldn't wash away the anger, the unfairness of it all. Then, without realizing it, She stepped into another dimension, a place where no mortal could ever locate.

The next thing she saw was Fog all over the place, the street lights were no more and the sound of cars, voices ... .gone.

Only silence remained.

Jane frowned, blinking against the rain.

Where am I ?

She turned back, The road she had walked was no longer there. She wasn't lost. She was somewhere that should not exist.

However she wasn't scared, she was already prepared for death, what else could happen to her if not death?

She threw back her head and screamed

"If this world is so cruel, let it all disappear! Let everyone perish"

With tears in her eyes the sky split apart, Lightning tore through the mist, striking the ground with a powerful roar.

Before her, something appeared, it was like a stone monument wrapped in chains. And then..

SNAP.

The first chain shattered.

Then another.

Then all of them.

The sky wept even harder, the wind made crazy noises like a living thing.

Then he appeared, The deity of misfortune

He stepped forward, very tall, powerful and unreal, his Dark hair slicked back from the rain.

He wore a long black coat that could barely move in the storm.

He stretched his hands which made cracking sounds, then his neck.

He gave out a sigh of relief

Then, slowly, he smiled.

"Was it you? Did you call for me?"

Jane stumbled back, her breath catching in her throat.

"W... Who are you?"

He tilted his head and was amused.

And in a voice as smooth as silk and as dangerous as a blade, he answered

"I am called Misfortune . And thanks to you... I am free."

Thunder crashed.

And from that moment Jane's fate was no longer her own.

The next morning. Jane woke to the sound of her phone's alarm. She stretched her arm to grab it from the small desk beside her bed.

Her head was still dizzy from last night.

"It must have been a dream... There's no way someone will just appear from a stone."

She shook her head, trying to clear the strange thoughts.

She heard a knock on the door.

She froze.

Her heart skipped a beat. She slowly got up and staggered to the door. She wasn't fully awake yet. Maybe it was the neighbor?

But when she opened it, Her breath caught in her throat.

The same man from last night stood there.

Tall. Dressed in black. Those same gray eyes staring straight at her.

Jane felt cold all over her body . It wasn't a dream.

"You look startled like you've seen a ghost."

He smiled slightly with his hands inside the pockets of his long black coat.

She quickly slammed the door shut.

Her heart was beating so fast that she could hear the sound.

"No way. No way. No way."

Then she heard a cracking sound

She took a step backward as the door unlocked by itself and slowly opened.

He stepped inside.

Jane took another step back, Her legs felt weak as if they weren't hers.

"W...Who are you?" she stammered.

The man's eyes darkened slightly.

"Oh... I haven't properly introduced myself yet."

He took a step forward, his voice smooth and calm.

"I'm Kael, the deity of Misfortune."

Jane felt her throat go dry.

That wasn't possible.

"What do you want?" she asked, her voice shaking.

Kael tilted his head. "A contract."

Jane frowned. "A... contract?"

"You have only a few months left to live," he said, watching her reaction. "And these few months will be the hardest of your life."

Jane froze. What was he talking about? And how did he know I had a few months to live?

"But... I can change that," he continued. "I can give you a painless death. No suffering until the end. And you will never lack anything.. Ah I mean money"

Jane's hands clenched into fists.

"I don't need your help."

She forced herself to sound strong, even though she was terrified.

"Leave. Or I'll call the police."

Kael chuckled softly, as if she had said something amusing.

"I didn't expect you to agree right away."

His gray eyes locked onto hers.

"I'll see you soon, Miss Jane."

And just like that He left.

Jane stood frozen for a moment, Her whole body felt cold, Had she imagined everything?

No. She knew what she saw, But there was no time to think.

She grabbed her phone and checked the time...

7:05 AM.

Her heart dropped.

She had just 25 minutes before she missed the bus to work.

She rushed to the bathroom and prepared in a hurry, grabbing any clothes she could find.

She was feeling hungry , but there was no time for breakfast.

She made a quick coffee and as she was about to take a sip, the cup slipped from her fingers and fell on the floor .
