Chapter 1 The Stranger in the Night

The night had a way of swallowing the city whole, turning streets into veins of shadow and secrets. I walked quickly, heels clicking against cobblestone as the wind whipped around me, carrying whispers I couldn't quite understand.

I had always been drawn to the unusual in my line of work. My occupation ,a midnight archivist for rare occult texts wasn't normal, but it had its perks. Among them: rare discoveries, strange visitors, and occasionally, a brush with the supernatural.

He chuckled softly, a sound that made my skin prickle and my heart race. "You're observant. But careful. Some truths are better left undiscovered."

And yet, I couldn't step back. Something magnetic pulled me forward, closer to the edge of the alley, closer to him, closer to... the unknown.

That night, I realized life as I knew it was ending. And the darkness waiting to consume me was far more alive than I had ever imagined.
