Chapter 1
Alexa's pov
Jacob looked at his hand as if I had burnt him then went right back to work. I guess he didn't feel it too. I had to get out of this room, and away from him. I felt like crying.
"Jacob I am going to go out and grab us something for lunch."
He didn't even look up at me. He just told me to go ahead and take an hour for my lunch. After accidently touching me he feels so disgusted he doesn't want me around. I might as well start looking for another job. Maybe I should just leave and not come back.
This job was everything to me. It's not like I made a pass at him. So, our hands accidently touched. I mean that's not a big deal is it? Now I was stressing. I needed this job. It was the only place that took me seriously.
I loved everyone I worked for. I didn't go get lunch I just went home. I couldn't face Jacob again today. I know I'm not beautiful, but am I that ugly? I mean all he did was touch my hand then got all weird.
Was it just because he's my boss? I have never felt like this before. Normally someone not wanting me doesn't bother me. Hell, I'm used to it. So why now does it hurt so badly?
I called Jacob to tell him I wasn't feeling well, and that I wouldn't be coming back in. If he fired me then so be it. I work hard for his family's company. I'm sure I could find another law firm to work for. I went from being hurt to angry.
He told me to enjoy my weekend. Guess that was that. I walked into my apartment and threw myself down on my sofa. What the hell have I done? I needed this job. I lived paycheck to paycheck.
I wasn't going to let some guys run me out. This was my dream. Jacob may be hot, but he was a jerk if he was going to fire me over a little hand touch. I would take today to have a little pity party then it was back to work.
Nakia was the kind of woman other women thrived to become. She had a successful career and a beautiful home that she bought, and she was always on point. At thirty years old, she thought she had it all figured out, but boy was she wrong. Her mama always taught her that you need to be the woman a man wants and not the woman you want to be. Every day Nakia lives to prove that theory wrong. Through her so-called weakness, she has found a strength she never knew existed. Don't ever let someone's negative opinion of you become your reality.
What would you do if your father hated you so much that he sold you off to a group of alpha werewolves? That's the very thing that happened to poor little human Fiona. Now she is forced to live with six sexy shifters and sleep with the four remaining single brothers and whoever gets her pregnant first not only gets land, but they will also become her mate. Who even does that? There was no way she wanted to be a part of any of this...
Willow lost her mother before she could even remember her or get to know her. It was just her dad and her brothers along with her. She started to see a lady riding a horse down by the lake but no one else but her ex Ethan could see the woman so everyone called her crazy. Is she really going crazy or was it someone trying to warn her of incoming danger?
Niko has always strived to be nothing like his Mafia crime boss father even leaving and falling love with a woman and having a son he named Noah. His father hated that so much that he had the girl killed and kidnapped Noah all to bring Niko back to him. All Niko wants to do is get his son Noah and little brother Nikolas away from his father but he knows the only way to do that is a fight to the death....
Love is many things sometimes it comes into our life and saves us other times it breaks us. When we fall in love we lose a part of us because we become the person we think they want us to be. What happens when we build our whole world around that person and they leave? We are left to pick up the broken pieces of our shattered heart to give the next person what's left.
Sunlit hours found their affection glimmering, while moonlit nights ignited reckless desire. But when Brandon learned his beloved might last only half a year, he coolly handed Millie divorce papers, murmuring, "This is all for appearances; we'll get married again once she's calmed down." Millie, spine straight and cheeks dry, felt her pulse go hollow. The sham split grew permanent; she quietly ended their unborn child and stepped into a new beginning. Brandon unraveled, his car tearing down the street, unwilling to let go of the woman he'd discarded, pleading for her to look back just once.
Noelle was the long-lost daughter everyone had been searched for, yet the family brushed her off and fawned over her stand-in. Tired of scorn, she walked away and married a man whose influence could shake the country. Dance phenom, street-race champ, virtuoso composer, master restorer-each secret triumph hit the headlines, and her family's smug smiles cracked. Father charged back from abroad, mother wept for a hug, and five brothers knelt in the rain begging. Beneath the jeweled night sky, her husband pulled her close, his voice a velvet promise. "They're not worth it. Come on, let's just go home."
"Madelyn spent years in a marriage built on lies, loving a man whose heart had never been hers. It had always belonged to her adopted sister, Rebecca. When the truth came crashing down, everything she believed in shattered with it. Broken and betrayed, she walked away, determined to reclaim the pieces of her life. But just when she thought she was finally free, Jason returned, eyes full of regret, pleading for another chance. ""Can we go back to the way things were?"" Now, torn between the pain of the past and the ghost of love, Madelyn must decide: trust him again or finally choose herself."
Vivianna's husband married her for her inheritance, and after he took everything she had, he sent her to a gigolo's bed and took pictures. He threatened her to divorce with those pictures and forced her out of her house without a penny. She left her home country in disgrace. Four years later, she returned home as a Chief Jewelry Designer, and had a three-year-old son. Her genius boy told her after he got off the plane, "I'll get the richest man in the world to be my daddy and back you up!" She took it as a joke, yet two days later, her assistant told her that her son was stolen by the most powerful man in the world, and invited her to dinner?! When meeting, that man held her little boy and told her domineeringly, "He called me dad. Hum... not bad."
Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
After a one-night stand with a stranger, Roselyn woke up to find only a bank card without a PIN number. Still in a daze, she was detained on charges of theft. Just as the handcuffs were about to close, the mysterious man reappeared, holding her pregnancy report. "You're pregnant with my child," he said coldly. Shocked, Roselyn was whisked away in a helicopter to the presidential palace, where she learned the truth: the man from that night was none other than the country's most powerful and influential leader!
