Becky and I had been friends for virtually all our lives because our parents had been close friends and next door neighbours. I don't know when exactly my feelings for her undergone a transformation, but with time, I begun to crave her in ways that defied the rules of friendship. The day I realized what I felt for her was love, she'd returned from California after spending half a month there. I'd missed her badly, and I'd been quite eager to see her. I'd hugged her too hard, she'd thrown her head back and laughed too hard, excitement had crept into my belly too hard, my heart had pounded against my chest too hard, and I realized I'd fallen for her, a little too hard. I'd been about to reveal my feelings to her when she beat me to it, announcing she'd arrived with her boyfriend.
đLOVING
BECKYđ
Chapter 1
The long strands of her hair fell to her waist like silky flames as she threw her head back, and I watched, enchanted as her mouth opened wildly, a lilting laughter escaping her luscious lips.
After her mirth had died down, she glared at me, her lips lifted in mock reproach as she brushed strands of her hair away from her face. "Come on, his jokes aren't that bad. And at least he tries." She mused, a smile playing on her lips.
I only rolled my eyes. The guy she was talking about had a horrible sense of humor and his jokes were flat-out not funny, but it seemed Becky was the only one who didn't see it that way.
"Besides," She continued, adding some blush to her cheeks. "His jokes aren't what pulls me to him. It's his face, David. Whenever I'm with him, its like there's only the two of us. Excitement creeps in, butterflies fly inside my tummy and my heart beats so fast."
Whenever I'm with you, Becky, it's like there's only the two of us. Excitement creeps in, butterflies fly inside my belly and my heart beats so fast, I thought, feeling a sharp twinge of pain in my heart.
But of course I couldn't dare to tell her all that. Instead, I said, "This is like the fifth time in five months you're saying the same thing about five different guys."
Hell, I didn't mean to sound so sarcastic, but when would she say the same things about me?
Becky stiffened, turning to look at me, a frown forming on her lips. "Seriously? Are you really going to rub that in my face now, David?"
"Hey sorry, I didn't mean it that way." I apologized, rubbing a hand through my hair, trying to regain some control over my emotions.
I loved talking to my best friend, but in times like this when all she could talk about was how much she liked this guy and how good a kisser this guy was, I wanted to be anywhere but with her.
But I always endured the heart ache, listening as she rumbled on and on about how much she liked this guy or that guy. I was always hopeful whenever her relationships ended because it meant I stood a chance, only to have my heart shattered into pieces whenever she told me she'd met another guy. It was like a never ending cycle.
"I should be going." Becky said, standing up and picking her purse. "How do I look?"
"The usual." I told her, and by 'the usual' I meant gloriously beautiful, her sea blue eyes glimmering.
Adorned in a white tank top topped on a pair of snug denim jeans, she was a woman dressed to seduce. It hurt to the know she hadn't gone through all that effort for me.
"Alright, I hope your night turns out fine." Of course I wished for exactly the opposite.
She kissed me on the cheek before walking off, and I felt desire burn through my scalp as I stared after her. Such an innocent act and it had such an effect on me.
Escorting her to the door, I closed it after she left. Grabbing a bottle of cold beer, I returned to the living room to watch TV, needing to replace the flaming images of her with another man my mind was intent on conjuring.
The thought of Tom holding her close, hugging her, kissing her - it made me burn with a hopeless jealousy.
I remember sitting there frozen, my heart sinking, disbelief churning through me while she went on and on about how much she loved this guy, expecting me to be happy for her.
"Hey, David are you even listening to me?" She'd enquired, tugging on my arm and snapping me out of my shock.
"Of course I am." I'd lied, regaining control of my senses. I couldn't even say my next words in a way that suited my intentions. "You know I love you right?"
She'd frozen for a bit, and then a smile had broken on her lips. "Of course, and you know I love you too. You're like a brother to me, my 'bestest' friend. We're soulmates."
It'd been painfully obvious she hadn't read the real meaning behind my words, and I'd been too disheartened to clarify it to her. But it became painfully apparent that the love she felt for me was the kind for a brother.
My observation was proven even more correct a few weeks later when my sister, Ella, found out about my feelings for Becky and left my room one day threatening to expose me after we'd had a fight. I'd been paralyzed with fear, but when Ella returned, she told me she'd only asked Becky what would happen if I told her I was in love with her.
Becky had laughed and called the idea ridiculous, the possibility nonexistent. But after some insistence, she finally answered that that could destroy our friendship since she only saw me as a brother.
Becky and I had later laughed about how 'ridiculous' Ella's question was, and I'd sworn to myself to forever keep my feelings a secret.
Sighing as I polished off my beer, I got up and made to grab another one.
All that happened 5 years ago. It'd been 5 long years and Becky still didn't know about my feelings for her.
And she would never know, because I was never going to tell her. I was content with having her near yet loving her so much from afar.
It was better than destroying our friendship.

In the deepest part of hell, seated on a magnificent throne is the king of hell himself, grumbling and scolding a set of guards. At his right hand side is Dracula, a powerful demon who sat quietly with a hard face. On his left is Rezel, his mistress. The most powerful female demon aside the seven sins . " I heard some reports against you all. Can someone explain to me what happened?" Lucifer's voice thundered in the hall, making everyone shiver in fear. The guards sucked in their breath as they await the worse. Seventeen guards could be seen shivering, they were on duty yesterday when they caught the mistress having sex with 2 of the council elders, she had threatened them and they had no choice but to give in and now it got leaked. No one knows who leaked the information, but the rumour spread overnight much to their despair. They all enquired from themselves if any of them had leaked it out, but they all knew nothing about it, leaving them worried. They got ready to resume duty only for them to be summoned to the hall. They hurried over there to find out that they had been framed by the mistress. She accused them of trying to rape her. When she escaped, they had spread those rumors about her. One of the guards looked up to find a smug look on her face. "These bastards are wasting my time, throw them in the hot oil," Lucifer announced as he disappeared to his room. They all dispersed as the minions were looking at them with pity as they cried out in tears while being pulled away. ' If only you had adhered to the warning I gave you guys yesterday, you wouldn't have found yourself in this position,' Rezel thought with a smirk in her face. She stood up gracefully and walked down the hall, heading to Lucifer's room. She would have disappeared, but Lucifer hates it when she appears out of nowhere in front of him. He claims it is disrespectful. Lucifer stood with his back facing the door, arms folded at his back as he looked out the window.
The coffee machine beeped to a halt and I moved over to the cabinet top to switch it off. Zoe loved hot coffee whenever she came back from school no matter the hot weather and I always gave it to her- the apple of my eye! Humming Joshua Bamiloyeâs âthere are forces against my soulâ song, I went into the store, picked up 5 pieces of big yellow plantain and came back into the kitchen. âI am gonna make my baby fresh sweet chips. My little babyâ I said aloud, smiling happily. If you asked me what gave me joy to still remain in my unfortunate marriage to Zack, then, I would say it was my only child, Zoe! I loved and adored her! As I started turning the almost brown chips in the frying pan, I heard the honks of Zoeâs school bus. âMy baby is hereâ I said aloud, moved to the window, drew the curtain and then I saw her as she stepped into the compound, looking as cute as always. I quickly drained the first round of the chips and then introduced the other set into the hot, boiling oil. âHello mum, I am homeâ I heard her voice as she scampered into her room. âWelcome my baby girl. How was school today?â I asked with a raised voice âCoolâ came her short response. She must be very tired! âMake sure you pray oâ I shouted again âOk mumâ she replied softly. Few minutes later, she came into the kitchen in a beautiful white camisole and a short blue corduroy skirt and my eyes widened as I saw her. âZoe! Why would you wear something clean when you have not even had your bath, huh!â I exclaimed. She looked at me briefly, sauntered to the coffee machine, poured out some and sipped it without looking at me. My ten year old Zoe would always behave like an adult! But something is not right as whenever she looked at me briefly, she had something bothering her but I had told her severally that this could be very disrespectful. âZoe, isnât it you I am talking to?â I asked her loudly and she looked up at me and smiled briefly. âYour respect thing again shae? Ok mum, good afternoon. Howdy?â she said and looked into my face with a âIsnât that enoughâ look on her face. I saw the dark circles under her eyes and I gasped. âAre you okay?â I asked and she looked away quickly. âIs there something you are keeping away from me?â I asked but she did not reply and instead downed another cup of coffee. I looked on, amazed. âMum, it seems the plantain chips are burningâ she said and I turned quickly to the gas cooker, turned the knob and quickly used the colander to bring out the chips. I served the chips inside a small salad bowl and Zoe came around to get it from me. âThank you mummy. You know I really do love youâ she said as she walked out of the kitchen. I followed her intently âAnd I love you so well too baby but you know my heart aches when you keep a secret no matter how little from me.â âMummy, you too like gist!â she said, giving me a half smile. I smiled too but it was short-lived. âIs Mandy fighting you again?â I asked and she shook her head in the negative âOk, but she called you a proud girl again?â âNo mum, you know I already told you that I donât give a damn what anybody calls me. I already told Mandy that if she calls herself my best friend and still tells me I am proud, it would all be over. I donât condone that indiscipline and she has actually compliedâ she talked on, her gist mode activated. I smiled appreciating the fact that she talked like an adult. âBut donât do things that would make herâŚâ I was saying when she cut me short âSay I am proud shae? What have I been doing? Mum, see o, âGive me your assignment to dubâ and I said âI canât give youâ. âFollow me to watch the dramaâ and I say âI am not goingâ. âOk, come to my house on Saturdayâ she said again âNo I canât come, thatâs the day I readâ. The conclusion was then âZoe, you are proud!â Judge those instances well mum, do they signify pride?â she asked, really gesticulating âNo dear. I appreciate the fact that at your age, you are able to say your mind without anyone affecting your decision. That is good. Clap for yourselfâ I said and she gave me a funny look and then chuckled âMum, who does that? Clap for myself at my age and marital status? No mum. I have outgrown thatâ she said as she chewed her chips. I tickled her and she started laughing vehemently âThatâs what your age mates still do so. You are still a kid my dear. Donât say because you are in Jss2 at ten, you are a grown girl o.â I said and she laughed. âMum, donât say that jhur. I am a big girl oâ she said again, winking at me. God, can you just help me to train my own daughter well? I prayed silently. I dreaded the thought that I had failed as a mother. âZoe, can I ask you a question?â I asked and she nodded in the affirmative. She dropped the salad dish on the glassy center table, sat close to me and placed her head on my laps. I rubbed her chin. âAsk mumâ she said âAre you proud to be my daughter? If you are asked to choose another mother tomorrowâŚâ I was saying when she cut me short, sitting up with such alacrity that almost scared me. âMum, I will choose you!â she said, nodding continuously. I looked on at her with my mouth suspended âMum, there are lots of things many of my friends canât tell their own mother because it is either they beat them blue black or they take them to church for deliverance but for you, I can tell you anything. I can run towards you with poop smeared all over my body but you would still hug me and tell me with love âDaughter, you smellâ. That kind of mother is rare. Mum, it would be you and you again a million years to comeâ she said and I was so pleased. I pulled her close to me and pecked her cheeks. âI love you my daughter. Thank you for the encouragementâ I said and she smiled âMum, never for once should you doubt your quality of good motherhood. You are good inside outâ she said again as if to say she was the mother and I was the child! Zoe wonât kill me with laughter! âme daily?â I asked and she laughed loudly hugging me so tight âLook for a mum that treats her daughter as a friend, listen to her gist and still crave for more gist and I will show you my mother.â She said as she gave me a âhigh fiveâ âDonât worry mum. I will tell you later. Letâs face my own issue nowâ she said almost anxiously. âOk boo, what exactly do you want from me?â âLemme be frank with you mum. You know I am the youngest in that class and all of them know, although I am bigger than most of them.â âYes daughter. I knowâ I said looking into her face. She would never feel bad for her stature. In fact, she loved it! I really taught and instilled in her boldness and confidence plus love for oneself. âMum, to be frank, I have a crush in my classâ she dropped the bomb and my chest rose up with pain arising from it. âCrush? Whatâs a crush?â âMum, itâs a Sam. He is the Class rep and I am the assistant. He behaves matured, he is handsome, he doesnât do bad things, he only goes on his way and even for me, he plays hard to getâ she said and I really could not help myself as I let out a serious sigh. But she didnât look at me. âIt has been like that for long until yesterday when we were in the Biology lab when he walked over to me and dropped a note in my hand and ran away.â She continued with satisfaction on her face. âA note?â âYes mum, a note. I have kept it safe in my wardrobe. It says âI like your kind of girl and I wonât mind if you donât, to be your boyfriendâ and mum, I walked out of the lab into the restroom to read over and over again! I could tell nobody. I was so excitedâ she said, sighed and stood up from my laps to the window side. What should I do? What kind of a thing is this? What sort of a Sam has gotten the premature heart of my kid? What do these kids understand oh Lord! These were the questions that ran through my head as I looked at her. If I beat her now, of what use would that be? If I go to their school tomorrow to report Sam to the school authority, of what use is that? Lord, please teach me the right step to take! I prayed as I looked up at the ceiling as if my life depended on it. âDaughter, tell Sam that you are inviting him for dinner in your house on Saturdayâ I said and her eyes widened as she ran to me. âMum! For real?â she asked, smiling widely. My heart broke but I smiled and nodded in the affirmative. âYes for real. Letâs meet him and see if itâs a devilâs proposalâ I said. I didnât know where that idea dropped from but it dropped anyway. She stopped in her tracks, her smile fading away. âA devilâs proposal?â she asked and I nodded. âYes dearie. On many occasions, the devil proposes to us daily. We either say yes or no to the proposal. This is a proposal from someone, not necessarily Sam but when he comes, by the look on his face, his word to you and all, I will know if itâs a devilâs proposal or just a juvenile stuffâ I said and with her mouth suspended, still looking at me, I knew she wanted more. âSee, the devil can tell you âhiss at your mumâ. Itâs just a proposal, you either say yes or noâ I explained further and she nodded, closing her mouth. âI understand! Like when Dad would come

Racism is an awful concept and has been around as long as man can remember, It is the mental ideology in the minds of most of the white people believing that they're superior to the black folks... What these morons fail to understand is the skin color of a person doesn't tell or show everything about that person, there's more than it meets the eyes, appearances can be deceiving, I may agree the black men's way of life especially most of them are barbaric but that doesn't make us superior to them, There's no proof of that even in the holy books to show that we whites are superior to the blacks
