Chapter 1 Prologue: Ready to Work

Stephanie's POV

I sat quietly in the visitor's chair while waiting for the result of Dr. Joyce's medical examination on me. Eventually, she stood up holding a paper on which my medical check-up was written. Sit at her desk opposite where I sit then lower the paper on the table between us.

"Okay, as I see the result of your final medical examination, you are very fit!

Means you can start to work, dear, Stephanie," said Dr. Joyce, our Family Doctor.

"Thank you, Doc."

"You are most welcome, dear."

She had no other explanation about my health because what she said was clear. Yes, because I didn't feel anything anymore, I was completely healed. I am happy for myself because I passed a test in my life and that was a car accident. I am so grateful to my parents because they never let me down.

I walked out of Dr. Joyce's office at the hospital where she worked holding the result of my medical examination. I went to the waiting area and sat down to wait for Daddy. Months ago when I had an accident, Daddy has been picking me up ever since. I have not been allowed to drive my vehicle again.

I never got bored of waiting because there was a TV in front of me. Besides, the movie is good and I've watched it before. It's just muted so the voice can't be heard. I rolled my eyes and there were still very few people.

A few minutes later, Daddy, called me who was already out of the hospital and he was waiting for me to come out. I stood up to leave the waiting area. Unexpectedly, I dropped the plastic envelope I was holding containing my result. I immediately bent down to pick it up but I saw it rise in front of me but not my hand holding it.

My forehead furrowed at what I saw, a nice pair of signature white rubber shoes and blue jeans wearing the bottom. I slowly raised my eyes and could not escape every part of a man's body. From his feet, knees, and thighs. My forehead furrowed even more because there was still a bulge in his thigh.

I was suddenly swallowed up when I realized what was there. I continued the path of my vision in its entirety. Even covered with a blue polo shirt, his muscular body stretched out. Standing in front of me was the handsome, white, and tall man, above all he has a sharp- nose.

I was still watching him as he immediately handed me the plastic envelope he had picked up. It was only then that I woke up and was taken from his hands. I immediately reached out and thanked him. I was still stunned to look into my eyes, met by his sad stares.

"Are you done checking me out, Miss?"

In the baritone voice that bewildered me.

"No, I'm not!"

I apologize because I didn't mean to look at his body. It just happened because I just saw a muscular one. I had male classmates back then but their bodies were not like his. It's sensitive to think!

"Really? Anyway, nice to meet you, Miss, I'll go first."

He left before I could answer him. He was walking fast so he also quickly disappeared from my sight. I immediately looked down when I noticed that there were people inside the hospital looking at me. I just stared at the plastic envelope I was holding.

I let out a sigh of relief. I can't get that man's look out of my mind. I closed my eyes and then opened my eyes. I secretly smiled to myself. There was something strange that I felt that I couldn't name what it was.

I hurried out of the hospital and saw Daddy's car parked in front of the hospital. I came over here and rode. I fastened my seatbelt then and looked at Daddy.

"Hello, Daddy!"

"Hello, hija! How's your check-up?"

"Everything is good! I am fit to work, Daddy."

"Very good, hija! Let's go home."

When I got home I went straight to my room, while I was resting Daddy knocked on my door. I opened him and ushered him into my room. The two of us sat on the long couch in the living room of my bedroom. I was shown photos of the applicants who were bodyguards of an agency so that I could choose.

I looked one by one at the profiles that contained a seeming album of applicants. I see a variety of handsome guys. Sometimes I was shaking, sometimes I was smiling as I opened their resumes. Until I finished I had no choice.

"Daddy, why do you need to hire in the agency, better ask some of your friends. Maybe it is safer for me because you know."

I complained to Daddy because I didn't like what was shown to me. I'm not like a delicate girl for a bodyguard. What I want is to be trusted because I can be with him every day. Afterward, he will also be my driver, who will drive me to my condo unit.

"I'll try to talk to our family friends. In the meantime, let's go to work together."

"No problem. Thank you, Daddy!"

The next day we went to Daddy's work together. I was very comforted by the warm welcome the employees gave me. Others are almost the same age as me, still young and rarely are older. I feel good to be with them at work.

I see Daddy with a wide smile because of what the employees showed me. Since then Daddy has been naturally kind to his staff. So the Alonzo family also received great respect, and his employees sympathized. I am proud of my last name.

After the introduction, we started our work.

I spent the whole day focused on my new job as the staff assigned by Daddy. Although Daddy wanted me to be the next CEO I had to go through the process.

I still have a long way to go before I get to Daddy's position.

I just noticed that it was five o'clock in the afternoon. I retouched my face before leaving the office. Other employees are also leaving their departments. I have accompanied them to the lift or so-called elevator.

Daddy was waiting for me to catch up in the lobby. Leaning back, his leg half-cross as four on the long couch while reading the newspaper. I looked up because my scent knew very well that I had arrived. I smiled at him when he saw me.

"The diligence of my girl!" he praises me as I am approaching him.

"Of course, Daddy, I inherited from you," in conjunction with my kiss on his cheek.

"Let's go home, Daddy, I miss Mommy."

Daddy got up and walked ahead, I followed behind him. At the age of forty-five, he has an elegant and caring body in the gym. He drives his car and bulletproofs it so he and I are safe. He is the Chief Executive Officer or CEO of Alonzo Wellness, Incorporated.

Alonzo Wellness, Incorporated is a distributor company of health and wellness products such as natural coffee beverages, slimming drinks, and cosmetics. There are many branches here in the Philippines and even in various countries. Thousands of "Independent Distributors" join every day because they are popular with Overseas Filipino Workers.

My parents are both doctors but when it comes to us we also have our doctor, because it's not possible for everyone to do it.

Mommy runs the "Alonzo Charity" which helps the less fortunate. Its office is in Tagaytay and there it processes and delivers all assistance for those in need. It has supported an "Orphanage." Our family is always included in every charity activity.

Wealthy families bring their help to Alonzo Charity, some other kind, and sometimes money. I was the one who took to the orphanage to be with the children there. I feel happy to be with them and see their smiles. It feels good to help, especially with children.

While on our way home, Daddy told me that I could live in my condo unit. But not now because he is still looking for someone to hire to be a driver-bodyguard. I agree with what Daddy said but expressed my heartfelt gratitude. What else can I ask for?

Sometimes, I think my parents are too protective of me. I didn't roam around, when just because of the accident then I needed a bodyguard. Daddy does the same for me. For my safety, who is the parent who does not want to give protection to the child?

"So Daddy, while I don't have a bodyguard, I'll be with you for a while. So I'll enjoy it first."

"Yes, of course, hija, I'll teach you so that you can learn a lot more and master the ins and outs of work and even business. It's not for those in a hurry but it's better that you learn early."

"Okay, Daddy, I will follow you."

Is it like this, that when you graduate from college you have to work right away? Can't I rest first? It's true that when I finished school, my life started there.

This is the beginning of everything!

If I may not work first, what will I do with my life?

Just take a walk? Spend money?

I have my own money, so what !?

I raised an eyebrow at my thoughts.

That's good and I haven't heard it yet so Daddy might think I'm crazy.

I shook my head to get rid of anything in my brain.

I comforted myself by talking to Daddy while driving.

Every Friday afternoon we go home to Tagaytay. That was Daddy and I's schedule to visit Alonzo Charity to monitor the staff. My parents are tandem in everything so the businesses are well managed.

The thing I admire about my parents so in return for them is that I studied well in college.

When we got to our mansion, I first went to the garden because I wanted to see the beautiful flowers. This is where the fresh air comes from as well as the water vapor in the swimming pool. I sat in the gazebo in the middle of the garden while closing my eyes.

I rested my mind because today I am focused on my work. I could feel the touch of the wind on my face. I inhale and exhale so that I can inhale it even more. The smell of fragrant flowers worsens.

Suddenly the look of the man I talked to yesterday at the Hospital flashed on my face. His handsome face was very serious. Maybe when smiling it's even more handsome. What is his name?

Based on what I observed, the army cut his haircut to suit him. My forehead furrowed as I remembered how he stared at me.

But his gaze was sad. If only I could do something to erase his sadness.

"What's that, Stephanie?" I visit myself. Why am I thinking of him?

I didn't even think about it while I was wasting time with him. I leaned over and stared into the air.

Disgusted, I entered the house. I was even surprised because Daddy was in the living room. He was already wearing his pajamas while watching TV. I passed him to head to my room. I'm not even halfway there yet, Daddy spoke.

"Why do you look like that?"

"Which one?" I turned to Daddy as I stood on the stairs.

"You look disgusted? Why do you have an enemy? Even climbing the stairs will push you?" Daddy's question was long and consistent.

"Ah nope! I'm not angry, Daddy!" Draw a fake smile on my lips.

"Daddy!?"

My eyebrows rose as the expression on his face changed. My Daddy knows me well. He knew if I was disgusted or not. We will be fathers.

He even shook his head before looking back at the TV. I continued to climb into my bedroom. When I closed it, I immediately went to the bathroom to clean my body.
