Melody's life has been a constant series of unfortunate events, tragic events even. By nine she was orphaned and left wondering if her sister was still alive or not. After being taken in by a pack, she was treated as the local outcast but never let it bother her any. When things start to hit the fan, Melody finds herself in the middle of it all, including in the middle of two men she never thought her heart would cry out for. Sometimes, being a wolf is exhausting.
My life hadn't always been as strange as it was now. There was a time, a really long time ago when I was living happily with my sister and cousin and my parents. When the Creek Pack was at it's prime and me, Magenta and Katie had no worries in the world. I wasn't the favorite by far even then, Maggie had this habit of pushing me away because I was the annoying little sister but Katie was always there for me.
Katie was always ready to take me somewhere and do something with me. I adored them both regardless of circumstances. Mom was always playing games with me or teaching me how a Luna acted. Showing me all the pretty dresses she had and fancy balls she got to go to - that one day I'd get to go to as well. Dad, as stern as he was still loved us and I knew it very well.
What I wouldn't give some days to just go back to that time.
Then the attack had happened, so many died. Many more were scattered and lost. Mom and Dad sacrificed their lives to make sure me and Magenta could run but at some point we had gotten separated as well. I was lost, left in the middle of the woods and holed myself up in a fallen tree until I heard voices. The Alpha of the Neri pack had found me days later and took me in. I was nine.
The Neri Pack took care of me for a long time, it was nice. There was no Magenta though, I would know. I spent weeks looking for her before they finally realized there were just too many of us and not enough room at the time. James – the Alpha – He'd been forced to have those of us who didn't have a place to stay yet choose between two packs.
The Lupin or Strizen Pack's. Well, I guess that wasn't really the name of this pack was it? This pack that belonged to Amelia Strizen, it was usually just called The Silver Crest Pack. I preferred referring to it as the Strizen Pack, especially with Satan running it currently. Though he was trying his best even I could see the uncertainty in his eyes from time to time. I'd spent the last fourteen years of my life in this pack though and Amelia was the one person who had kept me sane. Her disappearance due to that God, Adam still made my skin crawl.
Satan had Tristan helping him though, but he was still Amelia's brother and Beta. Satan though, didn't exactly have one of those or that was what I thought at least. Last I had checked he was just filling in for her but things changed over time and even I should've expected that. Crouching down and peeking behind a tree at the tall man standing outside of where Satan had entered, I couldn't help but be confused. I'd never seen him before. I would know, I kept track of everyone and pretty much decided that I wanted to avoid everyone. People sucked.
Taking in his appearance I just bit down on my lip. He was attractive, blonde hair, bright eyes. Even the stubble that dusted his jaw added to his appearance, I felt my mouth go dry as I stared at the stranger, letting my eyes drop further. Even in plain clothes he stood out far more than any wolf I'd ever laid my eyes on before. That was the interesting part about all of this actually.
This man that I couldn't help but be intrigued by. He wasn't a wolf, at all.
I could practically smell it on him, he was anything but wolf. In fact, I could sense a level of humanity on him that I wasn't used to... wasn't that how Magician's often smelled? That was a weird thing to think about about at all. There was something else to him though still. Something absolutely foreign to me. Straightening out my dress some, when I was absolutely sure no one was around him any longer I stood up fully and strode towards him, tilting my head to the side causing my black curls to bounce around my face.
Testing the waters, I reached my hand up and lightly poked him in the cheek.
"What are you?" I asked bluntly, slowly starting to circle him. I still couldn't place it but he was clearly not part of the pack nor was he a wolf in general. He was friends with Satan though, right? Satan wouldn't have brought an absolute stranger into the pack, he wasn't out of his mind after all.
Pausing I stared at his side, tapping my jaw as I studied him.
He raised a brow in response to me, his lip twitching some as he watched me before grabbing a hold of my wrist and holding me still as I started to reach up to poke at him again. I blinked a few times feeling my eyes widen from the sudden touch.
"I'm Satans bodyguard."
"Beta." I corrected under my breath.
"Let's not...do that." He spoke, looking towards my hand and I stared at it for a moment before staring back at him.
I pouted at him, putting my hands on my hips once he let go. "That is so not what I meant." I rolled my eyes and leaned my head in some sniffing him and scrunching my nose up. "What are... you. You're not a wolf." I frowned at him and poked his side before he could stop me. "And you're way too mean to be something fun like a fey."
Leaning somewhat forward, watching him closely. He was interesting still, even if he seemed not that fun. Walking around him again I stopped dead in front of him and poked his face on both sides at the same time, making a face at him. "Can I guess? Are you like a shape shifter? Demon? No..." I made a face dropping my arms.
"Are you like a hellhound or something? No, no, are you a dragon right?" I narrowed my eyes some. "You totally seem broody like one."
I couldn't put my finger on it but he had that 'leave me alone' aura and that always screamed dragon or demon. The ones I had met before just weren't all that happy about having to associate with anyone, ever. Satan really wasn't any acception to that either because the looks he gave sometimes made even me afraid to come anywhere near him at all. I had to wonder if he even knew how he looked when he wasn't actively talking to people at times.
When you did talk to him though, he wasn't all that mean at all. He had his moments, but I for the most part really liked being around Satan. I was pretty sure he didn't always like me being around but he wasn't mean to me like some of the pack members were. He like Amelia and Tristan was kind to me and that was probably why he and Amelia worked so well together if I was to be honest.
