"How are you feeling, love?" Liam asked as I was getting ready in front of my bedroom mirror, getting ready to go to the first day at the new school, in my last year before going to college - something I was looking forward to.
My father went into partnership with a businessman in a new town and we had to move there. The place wasn't far from where we lived, but this way I had the opportunity to go to a new school, one with a better education, more specifically, a technical school, where I could have my first experience in science, something I aspired to.
Being two years older than me, he had already finished high school, but unlike me, after finishing high school, he chose to take his time, not worrying about studies, and then decide what to do. After all, he could afford it, having rich parents. Not that mine weren't, they were, but Liam's family's wealth didn't even compare to mine. It was much greater.
"I don't know exactly how I'm feeling... Maybe nervous is the right word. What if I don't adapt to the new school or they don't like me and I can't make any friends?" I accidentally said one thing after another, just like I did when I was nervous, making him laugh.
"Hey, come here," Liam called out, spreading his legs wider as he sat on my bed and gestured with his hand towards me. I did as he asked and the smile he gave me made my heart warm and skip a beat, "Don't worry about a thing, you'll be top of the class, as always. Just be yourself," he held my chin and kissed me tenderly.
"I'd love to tell you that you're right, but being myself isn't a good proposition, considering that none of your friends, or at least most of them, don't approve of us dating," I sighed heavily, after stopping the kiss with our foreheads pressed together.
"You're all assholes! How many times do I have to tell you that my opinion of you and us is the only one that matters? We're perfect together, Mali," I melted every time he called me that.
Everyone, including my parents, called me Lili, but not him. Liam had always made it clear that he didn't like doing what most people did, so he called me that, in that special way.
"I love you," I said, giving him a quick kiss, but he wouldn't let it stop there.
Without me realizing it, Liam put one hand on the back of my neck and pressed the other to my waist, deepening the kiss and entwining his tongue in mine. I felt my heart racing every time he did that, and it wasn't because I was horny. I mean, it wasn't that I didn't feel that way when we kissed, after all, my boyfriend was a great kisser, but I was a virgin and I wasn't ready to take that step yet.
"We'd better stop, my parents might show up," I whispered, trying to stop the kiss.
"Relax, they were in the kitchen when I arrived. Come here, give me more of that delicious mouth, come on," he tried to force, pulling me on top of him as he lay on the bed.
"Liam, don't!" I exclaimed in shock, but he just laughed, not taking me seriously.
"Just enjoy the moment, babe," he kept trying to kiss me, but I wouldn't let him.
"That's the problem, I don't want to. I'm not ready and you know it," at which point I heard him snort and let me go.
I took a deep breath, annoyed, because it wasn't the first time we'd argued about this.
"That's fucked up, Amalia," from the tone of his voice and the way he called me, I knew he was angry, "I have a girlfriend I'm crazy about and I can't show her that I love her in every way possible."
"We've talked about this, Liam."
"Yes, we've talked about it and we've gotten nowhere!" His voice changed, but luckily I was saved when a hiss sounded, making me look at the door.
It was my mother.
"I'm going," he got up and headed for the door.
"But..." I was about to retort that he had promised to take me to school and was leaving, but I didn't even have time to say anything.
"See you later, ma'am," he said quickly as he passed my mother, who didn't even bother to answer him.
I got up and hurried to gather my things and put them in my bag to leave. I couldn't risk being late for my first day at school since I wouldn't be getting a ride.
"What is it this time?" my mother said.
"We'd better not talk about it, Mom. I mean, I don't feel comfortable talking about these things with you," I replied without looking at her.
"Oh, so it's about sex, I suppose..."
"Mom!" I scolded, hearing her laugh.
"What? I accidentally overheard part of the discussion. I don't want to come between you, you're quite old now, but how long are you going to insist on this relationship?"
"Don't start, Mom. I've run out of patience after Liam," I huffed, finishing packing my bag.
"Okay, okay! The one who said it isn't here anymore," turning to face her, I saw her hands outstretched in surrender.
I loved my mother, she was amazing, but sometimes she meddled too much. All right, I knew it was overprotective, so it was understandable.
"See you later. Love you," I walked past her, gave her a kiss on the cheek and left.
(...)
Even though I did my best to arrive on time, I was almost late. I was disgusted by Liam's attitude in leaving me in the lurch. But if he thought that this time everything would be solved easily, he was wrong.
I arrived at school and was feeling quite lost, not knowing where to go. The place was huge.
There were lots of young people - many of them seemed to know each other, others were just happy, like me, to be taking a step towards their goals.
The chill in my stomach accompanied me as I looked at every corner in amazement.
There was a lot of green. Lots of trees dotted around the place and I loved that. I knew I would feel very comfortable there.
I headed towards the staircase, up the steps and then down the corridor, looking to see if there were any murals where I could find my bearings.
"Newbie, huh?" a female voice called out, making me raise my head and look away.
"Is it that obvious?" I said, laughing, and she followed me.
"Relax, I've been in your shoes before. I'm Kendra, aren't you?" she said, extending her hand towards me.
She was beautiful. Tall, with dark hair and eyes, slim, but not excessively so, and she looked cool in the clothes she wore. A short denim skirt and a blouse with thin straps.
"Amalia, but you can call me Lili, I prefer it," I replied, accepting her greeting.
"Okay, Lili, welcome. What's your degree?" she tried to look at the paper I was holding, tilting her head to the side.
"Science."
"Wow!", her mouth dropped open in a perfect "O", "I'm sorry to say it like that, but you don't look like a scientist", she said, a little awkwardly, and I laughed.
"It's okay, you're not the first person to say that," I smiled, reassuring her.
"I think you'd get on well with my brother. Maybe you're in the same class as him. If only that idiot were around, I could introduce you to him, so you wouldn't feel so out of place. But all right, let's go!" She pulled me by the arm, leading me down the corridor.
Anyone watching would have thought we were best friends, not that we'd just met.
"Your room is over there," she pointed, "I'd take you there, but I have to go to mine. I'm on time for first period. After senior year, I can't risk any absences and the teacher sucks," I laughed at the way she said it, rolling my eyes.
"It's okay, Kendra. Thanks, Kendra. See you around," she saluted and hurried off, disappearing from my view, so I headed down the corridor.
I didn't have to walk very far, because I was already very close to the room.
I was about to enter when I bumped into someone, due to a small moment of carelessness.
"I'm sorry, I swear I didn't mean to," I said, before even looking at the person, but looking at the strong hands around my waist, with a few veins popping out on my wrist, I knew it was a man
I was embarrassed before I even looked at the person.
"Are you all right?" he asked, making me raise my head and our gazes meet.
For a moment, it was as if everything, absolutely everything around me had stopped.
His eyes were an incredible greenish-brown, his skin white, his hair dark and straight, with a lock falling over his forehead, his nose snub and two dimples forming on his cheeks when he smiled, albeit discreetly.
I lost count of how many beats my heart skipped.
"Hey! Can you talk?" his question made me realize that I was looking like a fool in front of him, silent and with my mouth half open.
Damn!
"It's... I... Anh...", I slurred my words, unable to pronounce myself. My mind seemed to have bugged out.
"You?" he arched his eyebrows.
"Yes, I am. I'm sorry, I think it was the fright," I made up some lie to avoid saying that I was actually enchanted by such beauty.
He was beautiful, too perfect.
What are you thinking, Amalia? You have a beautiful boyfriend too.
I blinked a few times, getting my bearings.
"I think we'd better go inside, class is about to start," he said, gradually releasing me.
"Of course. You're right," I straightened up and fixed my bag on my shoulder.
"Are you sure you're all right?" he asked, analyzing me.
"Yes, I am. Thanks for asking," he just gave me a wink, making my heart race even faster, and went on his way to sit down.
I watched him walk. His back was broad. He was incredibly tall and had a beautiful, round ass. He looked like an athlete and, from the jacket he was wearing, I'd say he certainly was one.
When he sat down and caught me admiring him, I looked away and looked for somewhere to sit too, feeling like an idiot.
