I woke up to my phone ringing. Even if your favorite song is your ringtone when it's going up to full volume, sharp midnight is very annoying. Not only that but also your almost 20-inch hair covering your whole face is even more annoying.
But when I see the caller I smile without even realizing to hear my best friend say " Happy Birthday Dimple " in the most cheerful tone ever. And the next second I see him entering from my door with two huge teddy bears and shouting " So how does 18 feel ?".
" It sucks to spend my 18th birthday at home" Even though it was the end of Covid large gatherings are still banned so I don't have a party.
" Even if I had a party, who'll come except a few friendly neighbors and Mom's friends ?"
It wasn't like I was a nerd in school or bullied but I always had a hard time having friends. I had few people who I talked with at school but all these 18 years I only had Alex as my friend.
That's also because our moms have been best friends since high school and he lives in the same house with me. Alex and I practically grew up together. He lost his parents when he was 8 and since then he's been living with me and my family.
" OK no negativity today, It's your birthday," Alex said while sitting next to me and giving me the two teddy bears. " Because you like Blue and Pink I couldn't decide which one so I bought both".
" You can imagine pink's you and blue's me . And name them whatever you like". He said when my mom came into my room
" Oh, this year also I'm late. Come on Alex, when will you let me wish my princess a happy birthday first? For the last decade, you always managed to wish her before me and give her a gift ?" Even though I didn't have any friends. Mom, Alex, and my cousin brother Lucas always loved me to the fullest.
" So do you like it?" My mom's voice snatched me out of my thoughts.
" Huh?"
" Even though you don't have a party you still get a dress" That's when I saw the maid standing behind my mom holding a pretty blue dress.
" Wow Mom, it's lovely," I said while hugging her. That's when mom asked " So what do you like the most? my dress or the teddies?"
Oh, not this question. She asks this every year. And every time look at both of their faces and say "OK it's been lovely having the two of you here. I love both of you and your presents. And I'm still sleepy cause it's midnight so Goood Night and Sweeeeet Dreams to both of you" And I fell on my bed and all of them walked towards the door. " Good Night Sweetheart," Mom said while giving me a flying kiss. And Alex said, " Good night Dimple, See you in the morning".
