LAURA'S POV
The pack's main house, (The palace) door was wide open as I walked in, everyone in the palace was silent and cold, and no one was ready to welcome me as I entered.
I looked at their faces, and it seemed to me that something was wrong and they didn't want me to know about it but, I was curious to know what was going on in the pack's main house. I noticed and went to a maiden who lay in a corner sobbing.
"What is the problem with you? Why are you all crying? what happened here? I demand an explanation from you now!"
The maiden stared at me and was silent. She acted strange and ran out. I asked myself what was going on and as the Alpha's daughter, I needed to be aware.
I then decided to go to my father's room, and I made a step in the direction of the room. A hand grabbed mine to move me in another direction. I saw her, and it was the palace Cook, I then asked what was going on in the palace.
"I need to know why is everyone here unhappy? what is going on here?!, please explain to me" I requested this time yelling, clearly frustrated about not knowing what was going on
"My dear what happened is too heavy for you to bear but keep in mind that it happens, we come into this world, and we also leave when it's time to, so you have to take it easy my dear."
I couldn't make out what she was trying to say although she was not making any effort to make me understand. My mind was preoccupied with a lot of thoughts. A lot of possibilities kept running through my head.
At that moment, I tried to figure out if someone had died In the palace but didn't know who, as these thoughts ran through my head, I realized that I had seen everyone in the palace except my parents, I couldn't hold myself anymore. I shivered as my heart raced, beating louder than usual.
"Why didn't you let me inside the Alpha's room, is there anything you are hiding from me"
" My dear, you have to put yourself together okay? go to his room and meet them there" the cook said probably realizing what was going through my mind.
As she said that, I quickly rushed into his room and I looked in the direction of my parent's bed and saw covered bodies, I couldn't help the tears that fell from my eyes as I went towards the bed and removed the covers, I saw it was my father and my mother, I screamed and cried out loud as the pain of losing my parents and being alone overpowered me.
At 20, I still hadn't found my mate yet, my parents were the only ones who I knew had my back, the pack members were already murmuring, they were already worried about who was going to be their next Alpha.
My parents found out they were mates when my mum had just turned 18, but here I was 2 years older than that I hadn't found him, my mum had told me that the moon goddess had someone special chosen for me, this had kept me going along with my parents by my side, I believed I would find my mate soon.
Maybe, the late Luna, my mother wasn't right about that, because right now even when I need him the most, he is not here. But now that the pack needs a new Alpha, I had to give them that, mate or not.
When it was time to take them out I was asked to leave as the tradition demanded, being the pack leaders' only child, I knew I had responsibilities and I wished I didn't have to carry them alone because, I didn't know what to do especially without a mate, so I moved out of their room and let the elders and guards do their job.
I was in my room with some maidens who were by my side to console me as I cried. The pain was too much for me to bear alone. It all still felt like a dream to me because I was still new to all this. I was still crying In her room when I told the maidens that I wanted to be left alone.
Not long after I had made that request, a message came through to me that my best friend Sonia had come to see me. I needed my best friend I quickly asked them to let her in.
"Oh my God, I heard what happened, please stop crying already Laura, I understand your pain," Sonia said as she tried to console me.
"I can't bear this pain Sonia. I am all alone now," I replied with tears in my eyes.
" No, you are not, you still have me love, and I will always be by your side, okay?" Sonia said, reassuring me.
"You just have to look for the way forward baby girl, you must move on with your life, okay? I know this may be a lot but the truth remains that you must put yourself together and get through this sooner than later, especially now Laura, and I will help you as much as I can." Sonia said, reminding me of what awaited me.
"Thank you so much, you have always been a sister to me," I replied sobbing.
"You must put yourself together, here, I bought your favorite combo as usual, just eat and drink these, relax, and let's go downstairs, it has already been done, if there could be any way to reverse we would have done it already," Laura said
Handling me my favorite cookies and juice, which has been my comfort combo since we were 12, she knows me better than anyone, other than my parents. I had them and felt a little better
We walked downstairs and went to where the elders were discussing when to bury the alpha king and his Luna; they discussed the matter carefully and finally fixed a date to bury them.
"That's the best time. We should start making preparations for the burial," Magnus the eldest chief said concluding the burial date.
Other elders complied quicker than I had expected and agreed with the decision on how to make preparations for the king's burial which was instructed by the chief elder Magnus. He has always been respected by the elders and the pack members.
Even my late parents had respected him a lot, he was seen as a man with so much wisdom and had helped my father make crucial decisions in the past. I knew I had to trust him as well as he knew my parents so well and knew what was best for the pack.
As the day was getting dark all the elders left the palace and went to their different residences. As they went home leaving alone in the palace.
I went back to my room with a heavy heart. Thoughts about what might have killed my parents were running through my mind. I just couldn't understand how they had both lost their lives. What surprised me the most was that even though the elders had wondered why their Alpha and Luna passed away suddenly, nothing was discussed on how investigations were to be carried out on the reason for their sudden demise. They all accepted this too quickly and I wondered why.

He pressed his lips against mine, and his kiss grew more aggressive, more possessive as I felt my legs weaken. What was I doing? In a split-second, I pulled away and slapped him hard across the face. Kylan's eyes darkened, but the smirk on his lips exposed his amusement. "You and I both know we can't fight this, Violet," he said, gripping my wrist. "You're my mate." "And yet you don't want me," I replied. "You told me you were ashamed of me, that l'd never be your queen, that you'd never love me. So please, accept my rejection and let me go." "Never," he whispered, his grip tightening as he pulled me closer. "Soon enough, you'll be begging for me. and when you do-I'll use you as I see fit and then I'll reject you."
