I'm the adopted daughter. To repay my adoptive mother, I've never had any contact with my biological parents. Even after they passed away, I didn't claim their inheritance, just to avoid hurting my adoptive mother. Then the high-temperature apocalypse arrived. My family found a folk remedy for Davina to ensure she would have a son. But Davina looked disgusted at the nasty remedy. I casually mentioned that this wasn't the right time to have a child. After hearing that, Davina secretly disposed of the remedy. Less than a week after the disaster struck, there was an artificial rain. My family thought the disaster was coming to an end. They all learned that Davina had discarded the remedy because of my advice. They blamed me for cutting off their offspring. They kicked me out of the house. Before long, I was left to die from the heat. In this new life, I inherited a large fortune, which I used to build a safe house. I want them to watch me enjoy the air conditioning while I feast. And I will watch them meet their demise.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

[1]

I was an adopted daughter. To repay my adoptive parents, I never contacted my biological parents, not even to claim the inheritance they left after their death, just to avoid hurting my adoptive mother.

Then came the heatwave apocalypse.

My family found a traditional remedy for Davina to ensure she would have a son. Davina looked disgusted by the remedy. I took the opportunity to say that it wasn't a good time to have children. Davina secretly disposed of the remedy after hearing my advice.

Less than a week after the natural disaster struck, there was an artificial rainfall. My family thought the disaster was about to end. They found out that Davina had discarded the remedy because of my advice. They all blamed me for ending the family line and kicked me out of the house.

Soon, I died from the scorching heat.

In my next life, I inherited a large sum of money and used it to build a safe house. I wanted them to watch me enjoy the air conditioning and gourmet meals while I watched them face their demise.

After hanging up Mr. Smith's call, his words still echoed in my ears: "Your biological mother has passed away and left you an inheritance..."

I was adopted by my mom, who always told me to be grateful and repay kindness. Therefore, I couldn't have any contact with my biological mother; that was the true way to honor my adoptive mother.

"It's raining! It's raining!"

The raindrops pelted down outside, growing heavier and heavier. Cheers erupted both inside and outside the house, pulling me back to reality.

Davina suddenly turned her head, her smile vanishing as she glared at me with hatred, stepping closer with each word.

"Mary, you said this heatwave would last at least three months. I listened to you and gave up on having a son. Now look, it's raining, and the disaster ended in less than a week. Why did you do this to me?"

Everyone turned to look at me, their smiles fading.

My mom clapped her hands and wailed, "My precious grandson!"

"You owe me a son!" Davina lunged at me.

Panicking, I ran back to my room and locked the door.

Davina and my mom banged on the door, demanding I compensate them for their son and precious grandson.

Just then, after days of no signal, my phone received a message from the community.

It turned out to be man-made rain, meant to cool things down and provide some water, as we continued to face the disaster.

I loudly explained the situation to those outside, but it only fueled their anger.

"Man-made rain is a good sign. The disaster will end soon. The government won't abandon us. A little rain every few days is nothing to fear."

"What nonsense about an endless heatwave! I spent a fortune on charms and remedies from the pastor, and now they're useless because I missed the timing. My precious grandson!"

"Mary, why did I listen to you? I hate myself."

Davina hit herself in frustration.

Everyone rushed to stop her, while my brother shouted for me to come out and apologize.

My mom yelled even louder, "If saying sorry fixed everything, we wouldn't need the police! I knew this wretch was a bad luck charm, a curse, with a black heart. We should never have adopted her; we should have left her to fend for herself on the streets."
