But with a twisted past, dark secrets, and a possessive ex-husband on her heels, can Trivias embrace her new life without losing herself-or her heart?" * An arranged marriage? Keeping my secrets hidden? Doing as the council of elders wanted? Making my mother happy? Trying to keep my gay status hidden? All those were nothing but crappy lies. I saw her, I wanted her, and I had to find something to say. I had to find a web to have her all tangled in. I wanted her to be mine. Even if I had to go down to the dirt, down to the grounds, into the mud, and even lower than the earth, Into hell, just to make sure she was mine, I certainly would. Losing her wasn't an option; indeed, she had stolen from me. My heart... she stole my heart. Mi LADRONA.
TRIVIAS POV.
Tension and fear washed through me while I remained seated, my fingers stuck in my teeth as I chewed on my fingertips nervously. I clutched hard to the ends of the sofa, worried at what my fate was to be.
I looked down again at my lap and then trailed my hands across my neck. The bruises were not fully healed and were terribly sore, and without doubt I knew the chances of getting beaten were high once again.
Worry thugged at my heart as it pounded hard against my chest. I fondled the envelope as I retraced the letter in my head.
„SERUM PREGNANCY TEST, NEGATIVE."
The door pushed open on cue, and my heart sank in my chest. How time had passed. Goosebumps crept over my skin as I wondered how I became scared of someone whom I once had butterflies for. The feelings were lost, from love to fear.
„How was your day, honey?" I called out hastily and panicked. I hesitated for a bit and proceeded to take the bag in his hands.
„Oh, get off me, you hypocrite." He yelled angrily. Just then, I realized the look of disgust on his face as he stared down at me. Bitterness etched down my throat as I tried to control my fear.
„I got a call from the doctor." My heart picked up its pace-perhaps it was better; he heard himself rather than me saying the words.
„The results?" He asked, although he probably knew what the response was already.
"Negative Embry, but I promise next time." He held up his palm against my face as sweat trickled down from my forehead, folded the hems of his shirt, and placed his briefcase down.
"come here!" He ordered, and a mist of tears formed in my eyes as I tried hard to have them held in. It was about to be a disaster. I spent all day praying to the moon goddess that some sort of miracle happened, but I was wrong. For all it was worth, he remained a monster.
„Closer," he added. My feet were shaky with each step I took, and soon I was merely a few inches away from him.
"Now tell me, what have I not done for you?" His voice was low, cold, and menacing. I grew bitter with each passing second. It was down to my ruins; I could not help it.
"Nothing," I responded. I knew they were lies. Maybe if he had asked me this very question five years ago, my response might have been different, but not anymore. He got worse with each passing day.
"Good, now why the fuck is it so hard to bear me an heir?" That was the most of it. I fought hard, having my tears held in, but I knew I had made a ghastly mistake as they slid off my cheeks.
"You get to cry now?" He asked, dangerously close to me. I predicted it but had not expected it to come so soon. With a strike to my cheeks, I hurled my palms at my face as the downpour of tears followed.
"Embry, please; I'm no longer healing." I pleaded with him, our eyes matched, and I saw no humanity left in his. He looked nothing better than a monster as he grabbed me by the throat and drew me closer. I wept continually, and slight coughs escaped my throats as I felt the air closing in on me.
"You are nothing but a useless, weak, barren omega, and I would never have fallen in love with a nobody like you, and now I can see clearly, whatever jinx you had on me is gone, you bloody ingrate." He threw me over to the floor, and I crashed with a heavy impact. My sides shook from pain. I knew my not fully healed bones had broken again. I sucked in air hungrily, knowing my life had slipped right before my very eyes.
"Useless, I say! I am the Alpha and I need an heir; one thing trivia, one bloody thing, and you can't even do it right for fucks sake," he yelled again. It had become his favourite hobby whenever he was with me, and his ability to speak in a calm tone magically disappeared.
I gathered myself from the floor and tried to stand, yet after many failed attempts, he watched my despair, rooted to a spot with an irritated look on his face.
"We can try again; just one more chance, please..." I promise I'll get pregnant. I pleaded with him, and I clutched to my sides as I finally got the chance to stand to my full length.
"one more? You'll get pregnant? You disgust me with trivia, and you must be insane if you think I'll ever fuck you, even as little as once, you worthless brat."
The anger in his tone was evident, and so was the angry glare that he passed at me. He moved towards me, closing all spaces.
"Pack your things, trivia. Head down to the second floor; you'll be staying there henceforth." I trembled as I listened to his words; they pierced through me like arrows shot into my heart. Ireached towards him with shaky hands as I gathered myself and moved towards him.
"No, no... Please, I'll do better. I promise, just once more, Embry, I love you. Please don't send me away." I pleaded once more; I could not help it anymore; the pain became unbearable.
"I'm only sending you down to the second floor; what's with the whole ruckus? Besides, it's not like you are useful other than being a bed warmer; all I wanted from you was a child, a young alpha, and you can't do it right. I'll head on to the bathroom now; pack your bags." He threw my hands off him and pushed me towards the floor as he headed towards the bathroom.
"Don't let me meet you here." He added in and shut the door. Tears slid from my eyes as I got to my feet, and my whole life shattered right before my eyes. I knew I needed to heed his words. I stuck at my stuff, packing it into my bags hastily, knowing if he met me there, every bone in my body would be broken from being beaten.
I didn't understand how we got there, and I hated to admit the fact that it all started when I could not bring forth an heir. Years passed. Embry became a monster, one who beat me at any chance he got, and yes, I still loved him.
"You're a creepy bastard." His eyes smolder me and his answering grin is nothing short of beautiful. Deadly. "Yet you hunger for me. Tell me, this appetite of yours, does it always tend toward 'creepy bastards'?" **** Widower and ex-boss to the Mafia, Zefiro Della Rocca, has an unhealthy fixation on the woman nextdoor. He didn't know her name, but he knew every inch of her skin, how it flushed when she climaxed, her favourite novel and that every night she contemplated suicide. He didn't want to care, despising his rapt fascination of the woman. She was in love with her abusive husband. She was married, bound by a contract to the Bratva's hitman. She was off-limits. He couldn't stand her, but she needed him, if she was ever going to escape her husband who now wanted her dead. Better the devil you know than the angel you don't. She should have recalled that before hopping into Zefiro's car and letting him whisk her away to Italy. Maybe then, she wouldn't have started an affair with him. He was the only man who touched her right, and the crazy man took no small pains in ensuring he would be the last.
