Chapter 1 Debt

The door exploded inward with a crash that caused three of them to cover their ears. Splinters of wood which had escaped from the fragile lintel splashed on Seraphina's shoulders, some of them falling onto her face.

Her heart leaped into her throat as five men stormed into the house. Their heavy boots striding on the marble floor, producing thumping sounds-Boots that were strong enough to pull down the wooden door with a single kick.

At their center was a tall imposing man, his aura carried an air of ruthless sophistication. He took off his sunglasses and threw it into the hand of the man beside him, revealing his sharp blue eyes. Those oceanic eyes scanned the room like a predator searching for prey in the middle of the sea.

Steven hid behind the couch, desperation clouding every part of him.

"Where's that bald headed thief?!" The man in the middle growled with a commanding voice.

Steven's hiding place behind the couch was of no use. One of the men with the well tailored suits and heavy boots grabbed him like a bag of trash and hauled him to the center of the living room.

"Uncle!" Seraphina screamed, holding her cousin, Ashley who watched the scene unfolding before them, with trembling hands.

The tall man who posed as the leader and whose suit was a distinctive blue color, compared to the black one worn by his counterparts, crouched to Steven's level on the floor and grabbed his chin roughly.

"Please," Steven stammered, rubbing his palms in apology.

"How dare you!" The leader's fist connected with Steven's face before the old man could utter another word.

Seraphina gasped and Ashley screamed her father's name. Their instincts screamed at them to intervene, but fear rooted them to the spot.

"You thought you could steal from me, old man?" The man mocked, grabbing Steven by the collar and raising him in the air.

"We can solve this amicably," Steven whimpered, feeling the burning impact from the spot where he had been hit.

He released Steven from his grip, leaving him to fall to the ground with a thud. His lips curled into a menacing smile. "Boys, deal with him."

The men surrounded Steven, landing brutal blows and kicks on his weathered skin. Steven got slapped in the face multiple times.

"Please, stop." Seraphina's and Ashley's pleas echoed through the room as their stomachs churned at the chaotic sight.

"You dare to steal from me," The leader's voice sounded as he striked Steven across the cheeks. The disheveled Steven collapsed on the floor, bleeding from his lower lip.

"That's enough." Seraphina shouted, putting herself in the middle of the men who were hitting her uncle.

"Please, Alpha Luke, have mercy," Steven whimpered as he lay helplessly.

Luke's sharp blue eyes locked onto Seraphina's. "Who are you?"

"I'm Seraphina, His niece," she stammered, shaking visibly.

Luke raised a brow, his lips curved into a smirk. "Brave, aren't you? Or just stupid."

He moved closer to her. Sweat began dripping down her forehead and she silently prayed that she hadn't caused any trouble.

"What's going on here?" Alpha Charles bursted into the house with his beta.

His scrutinizing gaze went over the battered Steven who lay helplessly on the ground. "Young man, you can't just walk into my pack and beat anyone. Whatever happened can be settled peacefully."

Luke towered over the elderly alpha. "He stole from me. I can't let a million dollars disappear without consequences."

He walked to the couch, sitting comfortably and crossed one leg against the other.

Alpha Charles placed a hand on his forehead. Steven's chronic manner of getting into debts and scamming people wasn't news. It was a big problem that he stole from the infamous Alpha of the Brimstone pack.

Steven raised his head from the floor to reveal his bruised face. "I'll pay back, I swear! Just give me more time."

"Time is a luxury and you can't afford it!" Luke snapped at him.

Steven stood up from the floor, having a newly found courage as Alpha Charles was here with him.

"I'll give you something to pay back my debt," Steven announced in his croaked voice, his eyes drifting to Seraphina and back to Luke who surveyed him with an impatient look. "My niece. She can give you what you need."

"What!" Look spat in annoyance, disgust evident on his handsome features. "What do I need from your damned niece?"

"She's youthful and fertile. You'll have your desired heir." Steven stuttered, rubbing his head nervously.

Seraphina's eyes widened in shock, unable to believe that the uncle she tried to save was giving her out like a bet.

Luke's icy gaze shifted to Seraphina, his expression unreadable as he studied her. He chuckled, tilting his head to the side as his eyes remained locked on hers.

"Fine." He said at last, causing everyone including Alpha Charles to be startled at his hasty decision. "If you dare to cross me again, no deal will save you."

"Seems like everything is settled." Alpha Charles left, shutting the door behind him.

Seraphina opened her mouth to speak, but the words seemed stuck in her throat. Her heart sank as the deal between her uncle and the Alpha crashed on her. This was the only way to save her uncle from the impending doom.

Luke stood up from the couch, adjusting the jacket on his chest and continued surveying Seraphina.

"This is a deal then," he said, averting his gaze to Steven.

Steven extended his hand for a handshake, but Luke shot him a disgusted look that caused him to withdraw quickly.

"Alpha, we can't let this scoundrel off the hook easily." One of his men in black objected.

Luke raised his hand in the air, a sign of finality that caused the aide to return back to his position.

"Pack your things. You're coming with me at dawn." Luke said with a tone of finality.

"Yes," she responded weakly, trapped in a nightmare that was the only way to save her uncle.
