Given a second chance, Nana West-Allen vows to rewrite her future. However, with her past love, Leonard West, wanting her back, she finds herself in a battle of secrets, lies, and danger. Will their love prevail, or will the ghosts of their past rip them asunder?
Laying on the cold concrete floor of her cell, Nana felt that her life was torn into a million pieces. Already six months had gone by since she was accused and put in prison for something she knew nothing about. That was the truth, harsh to comprehend, pulling her mind down like a wave in a sea of despair.
She lay staring up at the grey, dingy walls surrounding her, and the first thing that came to Nana's mind was how she got here. So, ten years ago, she walked away from a painful divorce, determined to start anew. She had built a life filled with purpose and joy, but fate had other plans.
Her father had suddenly taken sick and was confined to a bed, and his company, which should have been her rightful inheritance, had been snatched from her. If all that was not enough, she caught her sister-the very one behind her misery-frolicking with her ex-husband. Memories of her sister guile flooded her mind as Nana remembered how she always came up with scheming ways to drive a wedge between her and her husband Leonard.
The warden's voice pierced her thoughts: "Here is your meal, murderer." A plate of rice was flung into her cell; to her inner ears, the word "murderer" seemed to mock her like some sly taunt. Nana felt an upsurge of anger and frustration. Soon, hopelessness washed over her. Was she ever to prove her innocence and come out into the world once again?. Lying there, cold and unforgiving, the concrete walls of her cell a mere meters away; Nana couldn't but help herself and cogitate upon the question of if her story would ever be believed.
She crawled to where the food lay, eating with her hands. Nana knew something was wrong when blood started dripping from her nose and ears. She shifted back in horror, coughing out blood repeatedly.
"Someone help!" She cried out crawling to the bars. Nana was bleeding from every hole present in her body.
As she lay on the floor, writhing in pain; Nana prayed for a miracle.
"Just one more chance, I can't die just like this." She said just as she took her last breath.
~~~
Her eyes fluttered open, the sunlight seeping from the opened window making her temporarily blind.
Nana sat up on the bed in shock, she winced feeling pain in between her legs.
"Where am I?" She asked no one in particular.
Nana gripped her phone from the bedside, switching it on her eyes met with the date 23/04/2024. The last time she checked it was 12/02/2034. Could it be she had been taken back 10 years.
She remember this date vividly, it was the day Lana, her sister came up with another scheme to force Leonard into filing a divorce.
Nana got off the bed, her waist and legs protesting against the movement. She still doesn't have a memory of what happened last night. She only remembered what happened on this day, ten years ago. Lana had told her to slit her wrist and drown in the bathtub, while she drugged Leonard.
Nana guessed the plan had gone sideways. She sighed staring at her reflection in the mirror. Her neck were covered with hickeys. Last night with Leonard must have been wild, there was blood stain on the sheets.
She didn't want the divorce again, Leonard had done nothing but love her and she tend to reciprocate with her new found beginning.
There was a knock on her door and someone came in.
"Nana!" The person called from the bedroom.
Nana rolled her eyes, her expression morphing into a frown.
"In here." She said and a second later, Lana was in the bathroom with her.
"Hi, what happened? I came in and didn't find you?" She asked, her tone victimizing.
Nana turned to stare at her "what do you have on, Lana?" She asked, her eyes trailing the see through night wear her sister had on. Come to think of it, whenever Lana came to visit, she was always in skimpy wears.
"Uh, there was heat last night." She said looking embarrassed. Nana noticed her eyes trailing her neck, a hint of jealousy masking her features.
"Where were you? If you keep doing this you're never going to get free from Leonard."
"I'm sure you came by my door last night and you heard. Leonard kept me busy through the night." Nana smirked, washing her face.
"You let him sleep with you?" She yelled out the question. It wasn't like she didn't know the truth, she just needed convincing.
"Last time I checked, we are married. Sex is what married people do." Nana answered, using a face wipe on her face.
"Go get dressed, immediately." She sneered walking past her. Leaving Lana in a mess.
Nana went down for breakfast, the maids were shocked to see her leave her room. In the past she always insisted her food be brought to her room.
"Where's Leonard?" She asked the head maid, an elderly woman who worked in Leonard's family for years.
"Miss Allen, Mr West went to work." The head maid answered, her surprise expression unconcealed.
Nana nodded, feeling embarrassed that she asked the head maid of her husband's whereabouts.
After that, no words were exchanged. She went back to her room after insisting that Lana left her house.
Evening came and she was already getting bored out of her mind, from staying indoors all day. Nana checked the time and it was almost 6pm, way past Leonard's company closing time.
She sighed going down stairs.
"Is there anything I could bring to you, miss Allen?" Martha asked on seeing her.
"Leonard isn't back yet, does he always stay out late? " She asked, folding her arms. It was embarrassing not knowing anything about the man she's been married to for a year and half.
"He usually stays back in his office." Martha answered.
Nana nodded, going back to her room to change her clothes, she was going to drop by West Corp.
She picked her car keys on the coffee table and rushed out. "Where to, Miss Allen?" Martha shouted after her. Nana's mind was on West Corp and on her husband.
