Kiki wasn't searching for love-just peace and a fresh start. But at Greenville High, she finds more than she bargained for: unexpected friendships, silent enemies, and him-the boy she never saw coming

Chapter 1 Goodbye HollyTown

"Kikiiiiii!" Mum's voice echoed from the driveway. "What's keeping you up there?"

"I'm coming, Mum!" I called out, stealing one last glance in the mirror. I kissed my room goodbye, heart tugging with mixed emotions, then dashed downstairs to give Dad a quick hug before rushing outside.

"You look so beautiful, darling," Mum said, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. "Are you nervous?"

I nodded faintly, though I tried to hide it. Truth was, I was terrified-of meeting new people, of not fitting in. Mum and Dad had always been my only friends. But this was Greenville High, the school everyone dreamed of attending. Prestigious. Polished. Probably full of people nothing like me.

"No, Mum," I replied with a chuckle, trying to sound brave. "At least I won't be stuck eating your ham anymore."

She burst into laughter and gave me a light tap on the arm. "Come on, let's go. You know how crazy Greenville traffic can be."

I hopped into the car, and after a short prayer from Mum, we drove off. I leaned my head against the window, watching familiar streets and corners of Holly Town blur past.

"So... I won't be back for six months," I said softly, sighing.

"Oh baby," Mum replied gently. "Nothing ever really changes in Holly Town. But Greenville? You're going to love it. You'll make new friends, learn to play piano, maybe even swim... I heard the boys there are pretty cute."

"Mum!" I blushed. "I'm not interested in boys right now. I'll just miss you and Dad. The hot chocolate nights, the dancing to Taylor Swift..."

"I know, sweetheart. But you'll be back before you know it."

We drove for thirty more minutes before the city skyline finally appeared-Greenville. A breathtaking place with tall, glassy buildings and bustling streets. The kind of place that screamed wealth and energy.

"Wow," I whispered. "This place looks... full of adventures."

Mum smiled proudly. "It is. And now, it's part of your story."

As we pulled up to Greenville High, the campus was buzzing with students arriving-most in flashy cars with tinted windows and personal drivers. Everyone seemed to mind their own business. The girls gathered in cliques, laughing loudly or typing away on their phones like their lives depended on it.

Mum and I stepped out of our modest car, trying to look confident. As we made our way toward the dorms, we were greeted-well, not exactly greeted-by the dorm mistress. She gave us a once-over, her eyes lingering a bit too long on our plain clothes and second-hand suitcases.

"You must be... Kiki?" she said, not even bothering to smile. "Room 304. Upstairs, third floor. Let's try not to break any rules."

Her tone wasn't friendly-it was the kind that made you feel like you didn't belong before you even stepped through the door.

I glanced at Mum, who squeezed my hand gently, silently telling me to stay strong.

Room 304. My new world.

As I unlocked the door and stepped inside, I wondered: Will my roommate make things better... or worse?
