Chapter 1 I reject you

Selene's POV

"Why can't you just believe me, Kael?" I cried, my voice trembling as tears streamed down my cheeks. My heart pounded against my ribcage, frantic and desperate, but Kael's face remained a storm of fury.

He stood in front of me like a wall of stone, eyes blazing with betrayal. I reached out for him, praying that just one touch could melt the ice in his gaze, but he recoiled as if my hand carried a disease.

"Don't touch me, Selene," he snarled, his voice low and venomous. "You're disgusting. You think you can lie your way out of this? Out of what I saw with my own eyes? You..you bloody liar!"

My chest tightened. I was losing him. "Kael, I swear to you, I don't remember what happened. I would never do that to you. Please, just believe me. The baby growing inside me... it's yours. I don't know how Corvin ended up there, but I didn't do what you think I did."

He laughed-cold, bitter, unrecognizable. "You expect me to believe you don't remember anything from that night? Do you know what it felt like, Selene, walking in and finding him in our bed? Seeing Hanna's face twist into mockery while you scrambled for words?"

"No," I whispered, clutching my stomach. "It wasn't like that. I don't know how it happened. Someone must've-"

"Save it," he spat, voice like shards of broken glass. "I'm tired of your pathetic excuses."

I tried again, placing his hand gently over my stomach. "This is our baby, Kael. Please don't punish our child for something I didn't do. I would never do that to you. Please believe me. I'm telling the truth."

But he snatched his hand away as though burned. "I don't want anything to do with you or that thing inside you."

My knees buckled. I dropped to the floor, sobbing. The ache in my chest deepened, turning sharp as his next words sliced through the air like a knife.

"I, Kael Nightwind, heir to the Crescent Blood Pack, hereby reject you, Selene Rivers, as my mate and future Luna."

My breath hitched. For a moment, everything inside me stilled. The bond we once shared-a sacred tie that once wrapped our souls in fire and tenderness-shattered with those words. The rejection pulsed through me, a searing pain that no wound could match. I couldn't breathe. The pain was unbearable.

"No... Kael, don't do this. Please, I need you."

But he was unmoved. "You're no longer welcome in this pack. Leave. If you're still here when I return, I'll have the guards drag you to the dungeons myself."

I looked up, stunned. "How can you be this cruel?" I choked. "Do you not care about me at all? Do you honestly believe I would betray you, just like that?"

He paused by the doorway, his jaw tight. For a brief moment, something flickered in his eyes-pain, hesitation, maybe even love-but it vanished as quickly as it appeared.

Kael turned back to me with a smirk of disdain. "Don't ever call that child mine again. You're nothing but a mistake I should've corrected long ago."

And with that, he was gone.

The room was silent except for my quiet sobs. The finality of it all pressed down on me like a crushing weight. This wasn't just heartbreak. It was the death of everything I'd built with Kael-every touch, every whispered promise, every fight we had faced together.

My thoughts raced back to that night.

I had woken up in Kael's chambers, disoriented, the scent of foreign cologne lingering in the sheets. And next to Corvin. His arms were still tangled in the blankets, his breathing soft and even, as though nothing had happened. Mira had stood by the door, her expression smug, and Kael's face had been a mask of shattered trust.

I had no memory of how I got there. No memory of what happened. Just darkness-and now, devastation.

This wasn't the Kael who used to fight anyone who doubted our bond. He had chosen me when others scorned me, when the entire pack questioned why a future Alpha would claim an omega as his mate. We had overcome so much.

Or so I thought.

I wrapped my arms around myself, rocking slightly on the floor. My tears soaked the hem of my dress. The pain clawed at my insides-grief, confusion, heartbreak. A baby stirred within me, as if responding to my anguish.

I had lost everything.

But even as I wept, unaware of the world beyond these walls, something far more sinister was unraveling just beneath the surface.

Not far from the packhouse, two figures cloaked in secrecy met under the shadows of the eastern watchtower. One wore a long, hooded cape that shielded her face; the other stood poised, radiating silent satisfaction.

"It's done," the cloaked woman murmured. Her voice was hollow, expressionless.

The other woman-one Kael trusted blindly-smiled faintly, her eyes glinting with triumph. "Good. She won't be a problem anymore."

The cloaked figure gave a silent nod before melting back into the forest shadows. Her mission complete.

Back in the packhouse, the smiling woman shed her cloak of manipulation and slipped effortlessly back into her role. Her walk was light, graceful, purposeful. No one would suspect her. Not even Kael, whose loyalty she had carefully cultivated over time.

She had watched him fall for Selene and hated every moment of it. But now, the path was clear. Selene was broken, banished, rejected. And Mira ready to take her place at Kael's side.
