One fateful morning, a man was seen in an unsettling state. Walking around nervously and praying silently in the hospital, it appeared that his wife was in the labor room. He rushed to the doctor who came out of the operating room and was told to calm down because his wife's delivery was complicated and getting difficult.Out of fear, his feet couldn't carry him anymore, and he fell to the floor. A nurse came to him,lifted him, and told him to continue to pray and hope that his wife delivered safely.

After another two hours, the cry of a newborn baby was heard in his wife's labor room , and then two doctors came out to meet him. He asked after his wife and child, and after a long silence and hesitation, the doctor told him that his wife gave birth to a bouncing baby girl but died afterward due to tiredness and loss of blood. This news hit Mr. Henshaw so badly that he fainted.He was rushed to a ward, and after immediate treatment, he opened his eyes.Then it dawned on him that he truly had lost his beloved wife. He was devastated and down because she was the only woman he loved so much and wasn't ready to say goodbye to her.After consolation from the nurse who was in charge, his daughter was brought in for him to see, and just looking at his daughter, he saw his wife. At that moment, he decided he would do anything and everything for his little girl and let her have everything she wanted. He named her Amanda. Life hasn't been the same after Mrs. Henshaw's death, and it has been difficult for Mr. Henshaw as well. Taking care of his daughter and running a successful business hasn't been easy. He has already lost so much weight, and he was starting to lose concentration at work as well. After his doctor's appointment, he decided to listen to his advice about getting someone to take care of his daughter. Amanda was still very young and she needed enough time and attention, which her father can't afford to give to her anymore because of his work, so he decided to remarry after so much advice. Because of his love for his daughter, he started searching for a good woman, someone that's good enough to be Amanda's mother. One beautiful morning, Mr. Henshaw took Amanda to his office because the nanny had an emergency to deal with.He dropped Amanda at a corner in his office so he could get to work.After a while, she started crying, and Mr. Henshaw had to leave work so he could attend to his daughter.But then his secretary came into his office to drop some files for him to work on. She saw him feeding Amanda and offered to help so he could get back to work.He gladly accepted the offer, and his secretary took over, feeding Amanda her food and patting her until she was full. After she noticed this, she gently patted Amanda's back until she fell asleep . She slept so soundly that day that her father was surprised at what trick his secretary used. This went on for a while; his secretary sometimes would come to his house just to see how Amanda was doing and to take care of her.

After a month, Mr. Henshaw decided to ask his secretary to be his wife since she took good care of Amanda, and that was what he wanted. After much practice one day at the close of work,Mr. Henshaw called his secretary into his office to discuss his interest in getting married to her. This came as a shock to Miss Mary because it wasn't her plan to get married to a single father. She looked at Mr. Henshaw calmly and she told him she wasn't sure if she wanted to be anyone's stepmother. She expressed her love for Amanda and said she wanted to take good care of her, but she had never imagined getting married to Mr. Henshaw. After she said this, Mr. Henshaw told her he would give her some time to think about it and that he wouldn't rush her into getting married to him.After hearing this, Miss Mary, Mr. Henshaw's secretary, thanked him and told him she would think about it. She left Mr. Henshaw's office that day with a lot on her mind. Miss Mary got home that day, had her bath,changed into more comfortable clothes, and then she suddenly remembered what she discussed with Mr. Henshaw at the office.She started thinking but couldn't reach any good conclusion. This went on for about a month, even though she still went to see Amanda and still cared for her.She told Mr. Henshaw that she couldn't be his wife, and even though he was disappointed, there was nothing he could do about it. One Sunday afternoon, Amanda started crying suddenly.She was crying so loudly that Mr. Henshaw got worried. He carried her, started patting her back, and was dancing around just to calm her down, but it didn't change anything. He noticed that her temperature was very high, her skin was pale, and she was feeling very uncomfortable.After he noticed all these, he decided to take her to the hospital. Getting to the hospital, the family doctor took Amanda into the ward to get her checked properly, and after several tests, they found out she has sepsis, a life-threatening bloodstream infection due to her weak immune system. The doctor told him there could be a lot of reasons for Amanda's situation, but then he said he was surprised to find out that Amanda wasmalnourished.He explained to Mr. Henshaw that the nanny hadn't been feeding Amanda well enough. Hearing what the doctor had said, a wave of anger and guilt crashed over his face as he thought about his daughter, small, fragile, and unaware of the betrayal she had endured. His chest tightened, his fists clenching at his side as he thought about why his nanny did that.The doctor, seeing this, informed him that babies who get infected by sepsis can be treated, and since Amanda was brought in early, she could be treated, and there wouldn't be any problem later. This calmed Mr. Henshaw a bit.After their conversation, the doctor got to work, placed Amanda on oxygen therapy because it was getting difficult for her to breathe, put in some intravenous, and some antibiotics were also administered to her to keep her stable. While all this was going on, Mr. Henshaw was at the hospital's corridor waiting patiently for the doctor to come out.After what seemed like forever, he was done with the procedure and he came out to meet Mr. Henshaw. He told him about Amanda's health and told him they would monitor her very closely.He noticed that Mr. Henshaw looked very stressed, so he took him to his office and gave him glucose; this made him feel better.He got up and left the doctor's office after thanking him. Angrily, Mr. Henshaw left the hospital and drove back home.Getting home, he called Amanda's nanny in a very loud and angry voice that she had to run out of her room. He looked at her, filled with rage, and asked what she had been feeding his daughter. Out of fear of being caught, she started crying and begging Mr. Henshaw to please forgive her, that she was only jealous of how well Amanda was being treated, since she never got that kind of treatment even as an adult. Mr. Henshaw looked at her, his eyes filled with tears, his voice shook as he asked, "Do you want to take away my only happiness again? What did my daughter do to deserve this?" He broke down completely.
