Chapter One - The Woman In A Dress
Laura's POV
"Fiancee?" Maya raised a brow at him. The smile on her face had disappeared and was now replaced with a look of utter confusion. She stood in front of us, her hands were carefully placed on her hips.
Standing in front was Kendrick's ex. She had approached me and Kendrick while we were having dinner at a restaurant. Some few minutes ago, she had invited us to her wedding and thereafter Kendrick had introduced me as his Fiancee.
I sneaked a glance at Kendrick, trying to read his expression. I watched him adjust his posture on the chair. He flashed me a warm smile which left me utterly curious.
Kendrick nodded his head in response to her question, he grabbed my hand and squeezed it tight. "Yes, we are getting married in two months." He said.
This was not some sort of competition between him and his ex, was it? The last thing I wanted to be was some pawn in the game of two angry exes.
"What?" Maya gasped loudly in shock, she took a few steps backward, stunned at Kendrick's statement. I watched her clench her fist tight and scoff at us or maybe at me because she now had her eyes fixated on me.
"Yeah, you heard me right. We both love each other and can not wait to spend the rest of our lives together. I want to grow old with her and take good care of her." Kendrick sneaked a glance at me, he flashed me a warm smile which I hastily returned.
I felt uneasy. Kendrick looked happy for Maya about her marriage but it was the other way round for her, her gaze alone could kill. I watched her roll her eyes at the both of us before comforting herself. "Well then, I wish you both a happy married life." Without waiting for our response, she turned around and began to walk away.
I sighed in relief once she was out of our sight. Her presence made me feel extremely uncomfortable, Kendrick on the other hand did not even seem to care at all. His eyes returned back to the screen of his phone.
We were on a date yet all Kendrick had done was focus on his phone, that asides. Our date just got ruined by his ex yet he had not even thought of apologizing to me or better still, an explanation would work fine.
"Who is she?" I asked with a stern look on my face.
I heard Kendrick mutter something under his breath before replying to me. "Chill out, she is just my ex-girlfriend. We have not seen each other in a really long while." He replied with a slight shrug.
"Did you not at least notice anything off about her?" I raised a brow at him. Surprisingly, Kendrick shook his head in disagreement and waved it off completely. "She is still the same old Maya that I used to know."
"That is not what I am talking about. I mean something about her seemed off when you told her about our wedding in two months." I stated. Suddenly, Kendrick dropped his phone on the table and gazed at me with a tired look on his face. "Are we really about to go back and forth about this? Why are you always so paranoid Laura?" He snapped at me.
I gulped a lump down my throat, feeling slightly offended by Kendrick's harsh words. "I am not being paranoid, I am just saying it is best to be careful but hey, if you think she is totally normal then fine, I agree with you." I said. Actually, I lied. I hated that I had to agree with Kendrick but I also knew that was the best thing to do at that moment in order to avoid getting into any unnecessary arguments with Kendrick.
He nodded his head in agreement at me and drifted his attention back to his phone but I heard him mumble something like. "You are only acting jealous."
We spent the rest of our date in silence and once I was home, I tried to search for Maya on any of the social media platforms because I felt really uneasy about her. I had a feeling that she was up to no good but unfortunately for me, I could not find a single thing about her, it was almost like she did not exist on the side of social media.
The next morning, I prepared to head to my saloon but right before that, I decided to give Bree a call. I dialed her number several times but it kept going to voicemail which was unlike Bree because she was always with her phone majority of the time.
I shrugged it off and decided to leave her a message to call me back whenever she sees my text. Without wasting any more time, I grabbed my purse and just as I was about to leave, I heard a creaking noise echo from the corridor.
My heart skipped a beat and my brows were furrowed in confusion at the noise, it was coming directly from the back door and last I checked, no one had the keys to my back door except me and I was literally with the keys.
I placed my hand on my chest to steady my rapid heartbeat as I began to yell. "Who is there?"
I got no response but the noise had not stopped, I heard footsteps draw closer and it scared me. The hairs on my skin began to rise and I felt chills run down my throat.
I turned around to hastily grab my lamp as a weapon and just as I turned back to the direction of where the noise came from, Standing right in front of me was an unfamiliar figure.
A woman dressed in a bridal dress stood a few inches away from me with a knife covered with blood, pointed in my direction.
What the hell was going on and who the hell was that?
Her fiance and her best friend worked together and set her up. She lost everything and died in the street. However, she was reborn. The moment she opened her eyes, her husband was trying to strangle her. Luckily, she survived that. She signed the divorce agreement without hesitation and was ready for her miserable life. To her surprise, her mother in this life left her a great deal of money. She turned the tables and avenged herself. Everything went well in her career and love when her ex-husband came to her.
For as long as Emily can remember, she has wanted to overcome her shyness and explore her sexuality. Still, everything changes when she receives an invitation to visit one of the town's most prestigious BDSM clubs, DESIRE'S DEN. On the day she chose to peruse the club, she noticed three men, all dressed in suits, standing on the upper level, near the railing. Despite her limited vision, she persisted in fixating on them. Their towering statues belied the toned bodies concealed by their sharply tailored suits-or so she could tell. The hair of two of them was short and dark, and the third had light brown-possibly blond-hair that reached the shoulders. The dark, crimson background incised their figures, exuding an air of mystery and strength. They stood in stark contrast to the unfiltered, primal energy that pulsed through the club. Shocked by the desires these men aroused in her, she was disappointed to learn that they were masters seeking a slave to divide and conquer. She couldn't afford the fee, and she also realized that they were outside her league. Emily hurriedly left the club, feeling disappointed and depressed, unaware that she had also caught the group's attention. A world of wicked pleasure, three handsome men. Over the years, they have lived a life of decadence, their lavish lair serving as a stage for their most sinister desires. But despite the unending parade of willing subjects, one woman sticks out. A mysterious stranger with white porcelain skin and a killer body, a slave, a name with no address, the first lady to attract their eye and they will go to any length to obtain her no matter the consequences.
Blinded in a crash, Cary was rejected by every socialite—except Evelina, who married him without hesitation. Three years later, he regained his sight and ended their marriage. "We’ve already lost so many years. I won’t let her waste another one on me." Evelina signed the divorce papers without a word. Everyone mocked her fall—until they discovered that the miracle doctor, jewelry mogul, stock genius, top hacker, and the President's true daughter… were all her. When Cary came crawling back, a ruthless tycoon had him kicked out. "She's my wife now. Get lost."
Betrayed by her mate and sister on the eve of her wedding, Makenna was handed to the ruthless Lycan Princes as a lover, her indifferent father ignoring her plight. Determined to escape and seek revenge, she captured the interest of the three Lycan princes, who desired her exclusively amid many admirers. This complicated her plans, trapping her and making her a rival to the future Lycan queen. Entwined in jealousy and vindictiveness, could Makenna achieve her vengeance in the intricate dance with the three princes?
Janice, the long-forgotten legitimate heiress, made her way back to her family, pouring her heart into winning their hearts. Yet, she had to relinquish her very identity, her academic credentials, and her creative works to her foster sister. In return for her sacrifices, she found no warmth, only deeper neglect. Resolute, Janice vowed to cut off all emotional bonds. Transformed, she now stood as a master of martial arts, adept in eight languages, an esteemed medical expert, and a celebrated designer. With newfound resolve, she declared, "From this day forward, no one in this family shall cross me."
Rachel used to think that her devotion would win Brian over one day, but she was proven wrong when his true love returned. Rachel had endured it all—from standing alone at the altar to dragging herself to the hospital for an emergency treatment. Everyone thought she was crazy to give up so much of herself for someone who didn’t return her feelings. But when Brian received news of Rachel’s terminal illness and realized she didn’t have long to live, he completely broke down. "I forbid you to die!" Rachel just smiled. She no longer needed him. "I will finally be free."
