I was the Luna of the Moonstone Pack, but to my husband, Alpha Blake, I was nothing more than a placeholder. While he showered his "fragile" childhood friend Ariana with attention, I kept a secret black notebook. It wasn't a diary. It was a countdown. Missed our anniversary dinner for her? Minus 10 points. Saved her from a falling sculpture while leaving me to be crushed by steel? Minus 20 points. I lay in the hospital with broken ribs, watching him leave to comfort Ariana because she was "traumatized" by my accident. But the final straw came the night I was hit by a truck in a storm he abandoned me in. Desperate to save our unborn baby, the doctors called Blake. They needed his Alpha energy to anchor the fetus. "I can't come," Blake said coldly over the speakerphone. "Ariana is having palpitations. If the fetus is strong, it will survive. If not, it wasn't meant to be." He hung up. I felt the life inside me wink out. With trembling hands, I opened my notebook for the last time. Incident: Killed our child for her. Final Score: -100. I signed the divorce papers, left them on the ashes of my life, and vanished. When Blake finally returned to the empty house, realizing he had lost his True Mate, he fell to his knees and howled. But he didn't know the truth yet. The wife he called weak had just awakened as the legendary White Wolf, and I was never coming back.

Chapter 1

If not, it wasn't meant to be."

He hung up.

Chapter 1

Caroline POV:

"Where the hell are my sapphire cufflinks?"

Blake's voice boomed from the walk-in closet, carrying that natural Alpha resonance that vibrated through the floorboards. It was a sound that used to make my knees weak. Now, it just triggered a distinct wave of nausea.

I stood in the doorway, clutching a rolled-up tube of blueprints. "Second drawer, Blake. Left side. Right where they always are."

I heard wood slamming against wood. Then, silence.

A moment later, Blake Santos, Alpha of the Moonstone Pack, stepped out. Midnight-black hair, storm-cloud eyes-a face that could launch a thousand ships or sink them. He was buttoning his shirt, but his other hand gripped a small, black leather-bound notebook.

My heart skipped a beat.

The Book of Shadows.

"What is this, Caroline?" He tossed the book onto the bed. It landed with a heavy thud. "Opened it looking for a receipt. Found a list instead. 'The Alpha's Mistakes.'"

He let out a short, dry laugh. "Number 87: Forgot to mark me on the full moon. Minus two. Number 92: Left our anniversary dinner to answer her call. Minus three."

He looked at me, eyes cold. "Are you a Luna or a high schooler keeping a diary? You're keeping a scoreboard?"

"It's not a scoreboard, Blake," I whispered, gripping the blueprints until the paper crinkled. "It's a countdown."

"Countdown to what?" He sneered, turning to the mirror to adjust his tie. "To a tantrum? You're lucky I made you Luna at all. No wolf form to speak of. No latent power. Just a human pet I keep around out of charity."

Pain sliced through my chest. My inner wolf, dormant and weak, let out a pathetic whimper.

"I wanted to show you something," I said, voice trembling, holding up the blueprints. "The nursery design. I... we need to talk about the future."

Blake finally turned. He glanced at the blueprints, then at my flat stomach. His expression softened for a microsecond-a glitch in the matrix-before his phone buzzed.

A delicate harp melody. Her ringtone.

Blake snatched the phone. "Ariana? What is it?"

The arrogance vanished, replaced by a raw panic he never wasted on me.

"Fire? I'm coming. Stay low. I'm on my way!"

He was moving before the screen went dark.

"Blake?" I stepped in his path. "The nursery..."

"Move, Caroline!" he roared.

The Alpha Command hit me like a physical slap. My legs locked. Head bowed. Absolute biological submission.

"Ariana's gallery is on fire," he snarled, grabbing his keys. "She's trapped."

"But the gala..." I stammered, fighting the command gluing my feet to the floor.

"Screw the gala! If she dies, the sun goes out!"

He stormed past. The wind from his movement smelled of rain and ozone. It used to smell like safety. Now it just smelled like betrayal.

I waited until the command faded, shaking my limbs loose. I should stay. Let him save his precious "friend."

But I was the Luna. A fire in Pack territory was my problem.

I grabbed my keys and followed.

The heat hit me before I even parked.

The "Whitfield Gallery" was a blazing inferno. Orange flames devoured the wooden structure, spitting sparks into the night sky.

"Why aren't you going in?" I screamed, running up to Mark, the Beta.

Mark looked pale. "We can't, Luna. Roof's unstable. Protocol says..."

"Protocol?"

A black SUV screeched to a halt. Blake leaped out, looking less like a neurosurgeon and more like a beast.

"Ariana!" he bellowed.

"Alpha, you can't!" Mark stepped forward. "Structural integrity is gone!"

Blake turned on his pack, eyes glowing a furious red.

"STAND DOWN!"

The command rippled through the air like a shockwave. Every wolf dropped. It wasn't a choice; it was biology bypassing the brain.

"I will not lose her," Blake growled.

He sprinted into the wall of fire.

"No!" I gasped, smoke burning my throat.

Minutes stretched. The roof groaned. A beam crashed down.

Please, I prayed. Don't let him die. Even if he hates me.

Then, a shadow emerged.

Blake walked out, suit singed, soot-covered. In his arms, he cradled a woman.

Ariana.

She clung to his neck like a vine, coughing. She looked perfectly fine, aside from a smudge of ash.

"I've got you," Blake murmured, voice thick with emotion. "I've got you, Ari."

I walked toward them, knees shaking. "Blake? You're hurt."

His arm was bleeding-a nasty burn.

He didn't hear me. He was staring at Ariana like she was the Holy Grail.

"My throat..." Ariana rasped, looking at me over Blake's shoulder. Her eyes weren't fearful. They were triumphant. "I inhaled too much smoke, Blake. I need your aura. I feel faint."

"I'll take you to the hospital myself," Blake said.

He walked right past me. Brushed my shoulder. Didn't blink.

I stood in the ashes, watching my husband carry another woman away. I inhaled a lungful of smoke and coughed violently.

No one came to help. The Pack warriors were busy clearing the way for the Alpha.

I closed my eyes. In the darkness of my mind, the black notebook opened.

Incident: Used Alpha Command to risk his life for her. Ignored Mate standing in the ashes.

Deduction: -5 points.

Current Bond Integrity: 25/100.

"Soon," I whispered to the smoke.
