It was all a bloody mistake. But it was definitely going to cost her more than she'd imagined. Her life, her reputation, her heart... Her name is Allison and she's goddamn dangerous...
ALLISON'S POV
"Hello Fox" the coarse voice crackled on the receiver's end. I relaxed on the chair, my headphone plugged to my ears as I stared at the computer. I already anticipated his statement, I only waited to hear it.
"I believe you can hear me Fox, are you sure you are capable of executing this contract? I think I should give this to another person"
"Are you doubting my capabilities Mr. Roger?" I told him, my voice slow and cold.
"No, I know you're the best but it's just that Vermillion is quite powerful and I wouldn't want any footprints"
"Oh well, your work is done anyway" I said rolling my eyes.
"What?" I could hear his voice light up in utmost surprise.
You heard me the first time.
He was probably shocked to see that I beat the record of the numerous hackers he had hired to access Vermillion's database. That's one thing about me, I treat everything like a contest, and I always win-every single time....
"A...are you sure there aren't any traces?" He stammered.
I rolled my eyes, seriously! This man really underestimated me. Perhaps because he was a new client.
"Well, if there had been any footprints, Vermillion would have been after you by now. You probably wouldn't even be alive to make this call"
The old man sighed "Okay, that's a relief, I'll send the balance pay"
"It was nice doing business with you, Mr. Roger" I said and the call ended.
My name is Allison Dexter...Ali for short. I'm petite, long black haired and green eyed, with an IQ of 160.
And should I tell you a secret?
I'm also Fox, the world's greatest hacker.
And my record...(Laughs quietly)
It's unbeatable.
******************************
Of all the things I dislike, there are two things I hate the most.
One is disturbing my precious sleep, the other is...
The doorbell rang for the umpteenth time. Arrrghhhh!
...don't worry, I'll tell you the other one later.
Who the hell was this person at this hour? I rarely receive visitors and my BFF Nora was not in town; so who could it be?
I stood up from my bed lazily and checked the cameras on the front door. There were two men dressed in all black.
I scanned their faces to check if they were any one of my clients or foes, but their info wasn't even on my database. I could have checked further to find out who they really were but I didn't want to take time.
Alarmed, I took out my gun from the wardrobe behind my bed and walked slowly to the door. One very important lesson I've learned from being a hacker was to be ready for anything. Most of the clients I work with have masked identities and had a lot of enemies; working with them could make me inherit their foes.
"Hello?" I asked the men through the speakers on the porch.
"Hello, is this Allison Dexter's residence?" one of the men asked.
"Yeah...What do you want?"
"We would like to have coffee and chips" the man replied
I frowned my head confused. 'Coffee and chips' was the code word I gave my clients for 'we need to talk' or 'we have an appointment'. But then that was only specified clients and that only meant phone conversations not face-to-face appointments. Besides, there was nothing that connected my original name, Allison Dexter with hacker Fox.
Betraying no emotions, I took out my hat and face mask from the hidden drawer on the walls and wore them. If I had to meet them face to face, I had to hide my identity.
"With or without cream?" I asked holding on to my gun very tightly.
"Without cream" The man replied without hesitating.
"Would you like sugar with it?" I asked the final question for assurance.
"The sweetest things are what I desire" he replied.
Taking a deep breath, I pressed my thumb print on the door and it was instantly unlocked. The two men looked at me quietly.
"Get in" I whispered.
They both entered and I locked the door behind.
"Who sent you?" I asked boldly, the voice changer device on the face mask disguised my voice quite nicely.
The man didn't say anything and simply brought out a card from his shirt pocket. My eyes widened when I saw what was written on it.
It was the Vermillion logo. The black letter v with the red thunder strike in the background.
"You're coming with us, Fox" The other man finally spoke.
I paused and looked around and then in a flash pulled out my gun. The men pulled out theirs almost immediately.
"You don't intend in making this any easy are you?"
"Of course not" I simply replied, no one messed with my sleep and went scot-free.
Then I dashed towards them kicking the gun off one of the men's hand. The other shot at me but it was a poor target so I missed. One pulled out a knife from his pockets as I kicked the other's chin.
Knifes were out in dozens as the men used them swiftly, one of them managed to make a mark on my thigh.
I am really thankful for Nora for tutoring me in karate, she had always known I'll need it someday. Nora has a black belt, I have a brown belt.
The men were obviously far more skilled than I was and another knife stabbed my shoulder. I groaned in pain terribly weakened by the effect but I managed to shoot at the bastard that did it on the leg.
Take that asshole!
The other one was still desperate to make another mark on my body as he waved my bullets and kicked my gun away. I dodged his knife attacks quite well but the knife injury on my shoulder affected my movements greatly.
That moment I wished Nora was around.
I watched the one whose leg I shot slowly move towards the gun beside him and I immediately motioned to shoot him.
But he was quicker and his gun was faster.
The bullet landed on my neck...
Or was it the syringe?
My vision gradually grew blurry, I staggered back losing control.
And that was all I could remember.
