Sarah's POV
"Shit" I dropped the glass I was holding immediately and held my bleeding palm.
The glass made a loud noise from hitting the ground so hard and shattered into pieces.
"Oh no!" I stared at it in shock.
Martha was going to have my head for this one.
I bent down to pick up the pieces when I heard footsteps approaching and tried to work faster.
"What are you doing?" Frances, a fellow maid asked in a sharp tone and I remained mute.
She walked closer to my hunched figure and forcefully yanked my hand aside.
"What have you done?" She yelled.
"I ask you to help me out for a few minutes and you decide to break the entire dinnerware?"
"Get out." She pushed me, causing me to fall on my bottom.
"You can't do anything properly." She hissed.
I sat there with my head down, trying to will myself not to cry. No, I won't cry, not in front of her. I won't give her that satisfaction.
"Well what are you waiting for?" She asked, annoyed.
"Get out!" She bellowed
I scrambled to get up on my feet and made my way out of the kitchen.
"And you better report to Lucia, She's asked for you."
I halted my movement. No, not Lucia, Please.
What could she possibly need me for?
I made sure to clean her room and did everything she asked already.
Lucia, the she wolf betrothed to the Alpha, Alpha Jackson was a big bully and a huge pain in my ass. She had a personal vendetta against me, although I wasn't sure what exactly I did to her.
She wasn't the Alpha's fated mate though.
There were once rumors that she was behind Alpha Jackson's mate's disappearance but they were never confirmed. My sister, Lyra, had also disappeared around that time.
I never understood why she left or what exactly happened to her.
Moreover, Lyra and the Alpha seemed happy enough. It seemed he never questioned the rumors.
At this point I was convinced that she bullied me for fun and not because of my father's treason.
I made my way towards her quarters and knocked twice on the door.
"Come in" I heard her haughty voice.
I stepped into the room and closed the door behind me.
"You asked for me."
"What's that tone I'm hearing?" She snapped.
"Are you forgetting your place, traitor?"
"No Miss, I'm sorry." I said quickly.
She stayed silent for a while and then broke into a laugh.
"You're really something you know."
"You have the audacity to steal from me and then walk in here with an attitude."
My eyes widen and I immediately try to refute her claims.
"No Ma'am, I'm sorry Miss... I - I - I didn't steal from you. I - I wouldn't dream of it." I stammered out.
"Are you accusing me of lying?" She gave me a challenging look.
"N - n - no Miss. I didn't mean it that way."
"You ingrate!" She bellowed and stormed towards me.
I mentally prepared myself for her attack before she reached me.
She grabbed my hair drawing tears to my eyes and pulled me along with her.
"Calling me a liar!" She dragged me to her bedside drawer. The one she had warned me days ago to stay away from.
She released me in front of the drawer.
"Where's my Van Cleef bracelet?" She pointed at the empty space in the drawer.
I remained mute, not knowing what to say to appease her anger.
"Are you deaf mutt?........ I'm asking you a question!"
Grabbing my head, I sniffed and looked up to her.
"I honestly don't know where your bracelet is." I said and she twisted her face in anger.
"I - I didn't take it. Please, you have to believe me, Lucia." Shit.
My eyes widened in realization of my mistake.
She had warned me severally never to address her with her first name as I was beneath her.
"What did you say?" She asked slowly.
"You disrespectful bitch!"
She pounced on me immediately, grabbing my hair, she banged my head severally on the floor and proceeded to rain slaps on my face, scratching and leaving bruises in the process.
I laid there and took the abuse. I couldn't fight back even if I wanted to. It would just end with me being thrown into the basement and Lucia being protected by the Alpha, like always.
A sudden blinding pain followed by burning travelled from my neck down my body, causing me to scream.
"Let her go Lucia" a voice I recognized as that of the beta said, and Lucia was ripped away from me.
"Let me go" she struggled against him and he lets her go eventually.
"What!" She yelled out with a wild look in her eyes.
He turned his gaze to me and returned it to her wild one. "You've burned her."
My eyes settled on the curling iron in Lucia's hand and I instinctively touched my neck and recoiled at the pain. This bitch was bat shit crazy
"You can't keep on bullying others because they can't fight back Lucia."
"And who made you the Judge here?" She asked rudely.
He sighed and bent down to grab me off the floor.
"Clean yourself up and report to the Alpha's office." He said and gave Lucia one more look before exiting the room.
"You're lucky he stepped in. I would've reminded you why stealing from people is bad." She pushed past me towards her bed before stopping and turned towards me.
"Well, why are you still here? Get out!!"
Seemingly released from my daze, I scrambled out of her room and into the hallway.
Tears swam in my vision but I forced them back and started to make my way to the Alpha's office with my head down.
I knocked on the door and a gruff 'Come in' sounded from inside and I stepped in with my head still bowed.
"Lift your head" he demanded.
Slowly, I obeyed and he released a big sigh before rounding his desk. He placed himself sideways on the desk and gestured me further.
Shakily, I made my way towards him and he grabbed my chin, moving my head from side to side.
"What happened?"
I remained mute. This was most likely a trap. One wrong word and there was a space in the basement with my name on it.
At my silence, he dropped his hand and released a sigh.
"This is what happens when you don't listen, Sarah. You already have a lot of hate following you about, the least you can do is listen."
You would think he actually cared.
"As your Alpha, I am responsible for everyone in this pack and that includes you. Seeing you like this doesn't look good on my image." That's all he cared about. His damn image.
I remain mute with my gaze trained on him.
He got up from the table and moved to pour himself a drink from the mini bar situated in his office.
"Go down to the healers and get yourself fixed. You're going to be serving some high profile guests tomorrow." He released a sigh after taking a sip.
Is that why he requested to see me personally? He could've told Martha. She would have informed me and everyone else involved.
He dismissed me with a flick of his hand.
"And Sarah..." he said, halting my steps.
"Don't mess this up, the consequences wouldn't be nice."
