Chapter 1 Mission Hunt The Alpha

"Come on, you motherfucker!" Freya cursed under her breath as she sprinted through the wide forest of Hollow vale. "Fuck Werewolves"

Branches scratched her arms, but it was better to have a few scratches than to be eaten by a werewolf.

As she looked over her shoulder, she saw the massive dark-furred wolf still chasing after her.

Just then, a fallen log appeared in her path, and she leaped over it, landing awkwardly on the other side. Her foot caught in a tangle of roots, and she stumbled, hitting the ground hard. Pain shot through her ankle, but she forced herself to stand, and her vision blurred immediately. The wolf was nearly upon her, and she couldn't run any longer. Maybe this was it, maybe she would never be able to make her hunter father proud, maybe her purpose of existence was just to be born and killed by a big black werewolf. She slumped and fell, feeling weak to her bone.

Just then, she felt the wolf's hot breath on her neck, and she squeezed her eyes shut, ready to be eaten and torn alive. But to her amazement, nothing happened after a few seconds; she only heard its soft purrs. She slowly opened her eyes, still terribly scared, only to find the wolf golden ones peering into hers. To her amazement, the wolf only stood there, without moving. It wasn't going to kill her? Its eyes glowed as it lingered on her, it was only looking at her. Maybe, just maybe some wolves weren't that bad afterall.

Within a flash of an eye, someone sprinted forward and jumped on the wolf, diverting its attention from Freya. Before she could comprehend what just happened, she spotted the wolf lying dead on the floor. She gasped, looking up at the killer. "Lucian?" She called out.

"Are you hurt?" Lucian asked with deep concern laced in his tone as he helped his betrothed up. Freya released puffs of heavy breaths, still obsessing over the recent event.

"I'm fine," Freya lied, wincing as she put weight on her injured ankle. "Thank you." Freya's gray eyes darted to the dead wolf, lingering on it. "What did you kill it with?" She asked with deep curiosity.

"Wolfsbane, blood wolfsbane. It's lethal." Lucian gestured at the poisonous arrows he had used to kill the wolf; Freya nodded, still breathing hard. "S... something doesn't feel right Lucian, like we shouldn't have killed it"

Lucian's eyes softened as he looked at her, brushing a strand of sweaty brunette hair from her face. "You've always been a soft one, but Freya, it's high time you accept who you are, who we are. We are werewolf hunters." He paused looking at her before he continued. "It would have killed you if I didn't act fast, and in cases like this, you don't act on your emotions."

"It didn't look like it was going to kill me" Freya told him, conscience biting hard at her.

"Let's go Freya, your father should be worried." Lucian dismissed her concern. Without another word, Freya limped along with him, wincing as she walked with her injured ankle. Lucian assisted her to lean into him for support as they made their way back to their hidden home.

Just after they left, the dead wolf changed to a lifeless naked human-the heir of the Twilight pack.

---

Finally, Freya got home and Lucian narrated their most recent experience to her father, who was also his own master.

"It's a shame that after all the training I've put you through, you still can't kill a wolf. Shame." Hunter Garrick, Freya's father complained, his voice dripping with disdain as his hard glare narrowed at her.

"I tried my best, father," Freya muttered, her shoulder sinking. Her mind went back to the experience. The wolf wasn't going to kill her, it was only staring at her. If she hadn't overthink it then it was even looking at her in an interesting way. She still felt so bad that Lucian had killed it.

"Then your best is not enough." Garrick said coldly, walking around his daughter in circles. "Their kinds killed your mother, and this is the best you could become? I'm not proud of you" Freya's head jerked up, her heart plummeting at her father's harsh words towards her.

"Maybe luring wolves into traps is all you would ever be good for. Someday, I won't be here and you will have to fight for yourself." Freya has had enough. She was tired of always being viewed as the weakling in the hunters' team. She believed she wasn't weak. Her compassion and empathy was what differentiate her from other hunters, but now, she was ready. She would prove to her father that she's no weakling. Lucian, who had been starting at a corner in the large living room all this while gave her a comforting look, she could only nod.

A few days later, a deadly attack like never before struck Greenville, humans were killed and some were adopted. The werewolf hunters in Greenville could only do their best in taking some of the werewolves down. Which was a thing that surprised hunter Garrick. To his best knowledge, they had taken the best of werewolves pack downs-Alpha Zeus pack. So who were these ones and where did they come from? They were vicious. Nothing like the wolves they had killed before.

"It's not any pack we've heard of before master. The Alpha name is Torin. Alpha Torin." Zach, one of hunter Garrick's best men relayed, breathing in hot puffs, an effect of the running he had been doing. He had been away since the previous day, gathering information about the new Alpha whose pack was terrorizing their space.

"Where does this Alpha and his pack live?" Hunter Garrick asked as he paced through his vast luxurious living room with a cold, but curious expression resting on his face.

"According to what I've gathered, he's not an easy prey. Getting to him would need special tactics from us." Zach said, his expression one of slight worry. A sneer found its way to hunter Garrick's lips as he approached the cabinet in the visible inner room that's etched in his living room. He undid a vodka bottle cover and poured a small amount into a glass cup he was holding.

He believed Zach. Out of all his hunters, Zach was the most fearless and dedicated one and he had always trusted him on missions. If Zach said Alpha Torin is dangerous then he is. That meant they had to be cautious and gather enough information about him before they could attack. Just then, a thought slipped in his mind and he let out a smug smile. Amelia, the vicious female hunter, who was also his daughter's best friend, would be sent as bait to the lion's den.

"Call Amelia over" Garrick instructed, but just as Zach was about to turn around, a voice interfered.

"I will do it" Garrick's head darted up from the drink in his hand and even Zach looked surprised.

"Put this mission on me, Father. I will bring Alpha Torin to you, weakened and helpless." Freya declared, her expression reflecting her determined words. She could see the shock, and doubt in her father's expression so she added "I am willing to prove to you that I'm not a weakling father. No one will execute this mission rightly better than the girl who wants to impress her father, and also take revenge on the filthy creatures that killed her mother."

Garrick accessed her closely, his eyes reducing to thin slits. Finally, he spoke. "Promise me you won't return dead," Freya sighed with great relief, a big smile settling on her face. "You will never have to say that twice, father."

Excited with her new mission, Freya rushed to Lucian's quarters to inform her betrothed of the latest improvement, though she knew he might be wary of the danger that surrounds the mission. She bursted into his room without knocking, only to find him in a compromising position with her best friend, Amelia. They were all over each other that they didn't even notice her presence. Her heart constricted painfully in her chest. This was bad. Or...was it?
