She thinks of him as finally her way out to be protected, but what will happen to her when this strange helper wants nothing to do with her? Will she find a way to be protected by him or will they go their separate ways?
TWENTY YEARS AGO...
As the cold wind of the night blew towards the trees and rustled the dead leaves on the ground... A man and woman dashed through the dark woods, crushing the dead leaves beneath as they did. The man held her hand firmly as the woman tried to keep up with him.... tears kept rolling down her cheeks as they ran... Her eyes kept scanning their surroundings in fear of what was lurking in the dark...Would they make it out... would they be found before they could... Different thoughts coursed through the woman's mind and the more they ran the more she lost the small hope that she was holding on to that they would ever escape... till the hope was finally gone
Suddenly, the woman came to an abrupt halt, forcing the man to do so too. The man turned to look at her, his eyes wide in shock and fear... his hand still firmly gripping onto hers... "Elena! What are you doing!" He said in urgency as his eyes started to scan their vicinity... the wind blew even stronger, but the woman didn't move; instead, she shook her head and Burst out crying...
"We need to leave her here... we can't take her with us..." She said and looked down at the sleeping baby in her arms, who was wrapped in a shawl... she held the baby close to her chest and continued to cry...
"What the hell is wrong with you, Elena? We can make it... I promise to protect the both of you..." The man said, trying to convince her otherwise because of the drastic decision she wanted to take... but Elena shook her head... his words didn't bring hope to her anymore. Instead, they dwindled it even more.
"No, we can't... no matter how long we keep running, they will find us... she isn't safe with us... we have to find a safe place to keep her and..." Elena couldn't complete her words because her eyes grew wide in complete horror when she caught a glimpse of something or rather someone...
"No!" She breathed out as a figure walked out of the shadows behind the man... "What is it... we can make it, Elena.." The man started, but Elena's eyes immediately started to brim with tears as the figure drew closer... "They found us..." She said in a low voice that was ridden with fear, and the man felt a cold shiver run down his spine...
But before the man could turn to look at who it was, he froze because of the slashing sound, and everything became dead silent...
"Cedrick!" Elena yelled out in anguish as she watched her husband drop to the ground, the light in his eyes dimming till it was finally gone... the man kicked away his lifeless body, and she felt like the air had been sucked right out of her as she watched this horrid scene unfold before her... "No..." She muttered under her breath and started to shake her head in disbelief... "You shouldn't have run... all I want is her... I promise not to hurt her... she is more safe with me than she is with you... do you think I am the only one searching for the child? I am just one of many, Elena.." The figure that had killed Cedrick said as he started to walk towards where Elena was standing... Elena started to take a step backwards and away from him .. but before she could turn and flee... she hit something with her back... when she turned she gasped when she saw one of his men standing behind her with a scary smile on his face... "there is no escaping Elena.. give her to me and I promise to let you go..." The man said, and Elena held her child closer to her chest... more tears escaped her eyes as her eyes travelled to her husband... He didn't deserve this. This was all her fault...
She couldn't believe he was gone... she held her baby closer and felt an intense pain of grief and anguish overcome her...
. "I will never give her to you..." She said firmly... her eyes were no longer filled with tears but with determination to save her child even though it was the last thing she was going to do. "Then I think you should join him..." The man said and before Elena could do anything she felt something sharp behind her which followed with a piercing pain... She felt breath being sucked out of her as the pain started to course through her entire body, but she didn't let go of her baby even as she started to grow weak... Elena fell to her knees, the baby leaving her arms as she did.... her hand travelled to her back, and her eyes grew wide when she brought it back and saw blood... Her breathing became raged as she tried to pick her baby back up, the determination still in her eyes but it was laced with fear...
Elena stretched out her hand towards her baby, who was still fast asleep... the spell she had cast was still in effect... more tears escaped her eyes as she tried to think of a way out. If only she had listened to Cederick... "I'm sorry..." she said as she stared at her child... no she couldn't give up now... there was a way out but she didn't know if she was strong enough... No that was the only shot she had... Elena closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, it was filled with that same determination, but the fear was no longer to be found...
... she started to mutter some words under her breath... "What is she doing!" One of the men screamed out in anger and started to charge towards her, but before he could get to Elena... a blinding amber light overshadowed the baby, causing him to immediately take a step back because of how bright the light was... "Stop her!" He yelled out to his men, but none of his men could step forward.. they all turned away as the light became bright and brighter... they all couldn't bear this... this continued for the next few seconds and when they all finally turned to look...
She was gone... the baby was gone... "Where is she..." the man muttered under his breath, and all his men started to exchange confused and shocked looks... they all were quiet, too afraid to step forward... they were afraid of what would happen to them if they did... "Bunch of cowards... you all are a bunch of cowards...!" The man yelled out angrily and started to charge towards Elena... But when he got to where she was he froze in his tracks... the frown on his face deepened as he went down on one knee in front of her.. he grunted and scoffed... his hand travelling to her nose to check for breath... "She is gone... this freaking wrench..." He said in disgust and turned to look at his men, who were still in the same spot that he had left them... "find me the child... I don't care how you do it, but bring her to me.."
